  1. Bradley lost two very good ball players but are returning a group of very talented ball players---Scott, Reynolds, and Crowe who started most of the year last year, along with Robinson,Jackson,Dalton, and Jolley. On the bench you have the freshmen who were junior high state champs last year. Young, yes.... Talented, again yes.... How good will they be? That remains to be seen... We will see in February and March when all win-loss records are tossed to the side? That is when you can see who the best teams are.
  2. Congrats to the Bradley boys for placing 3rd overall in the Jessee Owens Invitational.
  3. What is a "Miss Cleo?" Why does everyone want to say who will win the districts? Practice doesn't even begin for another month, and it is a very long season, and a lot of factors will contribute to who wins and loses. All three of the teams that have been mentioned have an equal shot at winning. I hope that team is Bradley, but who knows???? To 23's mom, I think that people look at Bradley as not having hte players, because they are so young. Starting only one senior and two sophomores makes them the most inexperienced team in the district. But, I for one do not think that is going to matter that much.
  4. He is the point guard or the number two guard, according to what games your saw.
  5. Mullinax will coach his way to a victory. McMinn 24-Oak Ridge 10. Go Cherokees!!!!
  6. Ironically, Cleveland's running game was not very effective and their passing game is what won the game for them in the fourth quarter. Great catch by Desmond Rankin. It was a great game both ways. I was impressed with Bradley's play, but again, missed passes hurt them.
  7. Posted by gomab2: I do hate to say it.....but Summer Team camps don't mean anything...... Quick example: A summer ago, Dyer Co lost by 26 points to Riverdale. Dyer Co ends up at State tourney, and Riverdale doesn't get out of District tourney. Summer Camps don't mean jack...... I completely agree with you Gomab about the camps.
  8. I was at the Science Hill game in question and NO there was never a 20 point lead or even close to it. I think that 8 was the biggest difference in the game. It was played in KY at the Hoop it in the Hill Tournament, and Bradley made it to the final four. I don't think Science Hill even made it to the final eight. Any time these two schools get together, whether it is in a scrimmage, camp, or real game, it could go either way. Both teams have great players and great coaches. Jerome Odem and Nick Bradley are very good ball players, excellent defenders. However, they are not one bit better than the Bradley guards. Why is always a "who is a better player?" with you all? All four or five players in question from these two schools are legitimate players and both teams are legit state finalists. It's all in the luck of the draw, and a lot of things can happen between now and March.
  9. Bradley girls are undefeated and came home with a first place trophy in the Hardin County, KY Invitational this past weekend.
  10. This is a sports site, not a cheerleading site. [Edited by tnwareagle on 9-8-02 4:12P]
  11. ALL of the good teams play in Thanksgiving AND Christmas tournaments. I have found that it is a good time for family to have together. Yes, sometimes it cuts into some family get-togethers, but colleges have been playing on Thanksgivng DAY and Christmas DAY for years. Playing in holiday tournaments and travelling long distances are not what some teams want. Hey, some high schools play simply for fun and some play to make it to the state. You cannot get better by playing the same teams over and over. Holiday tournaments give teams a chance to play the best teams from neighboring states and from other places in Tennessee. I think they are GREAT and I think they are fun. My kids look forward to the holiday tournaments. But to each his own.
  12. Cleveland's regular season championship did not incude any Chattanooga teams. The Chattanooga teams are in their region, not district. And they were eliminated in the region by a Chattanooga team, Brainerd, who went on and won the region. I agree that classifications are not that important. What a school needs to do is to find the best competetion they can find and go play. WVHS can not help the fact that they are AA, and there are some darn good teams AA (McMinn Central, Jackson County, Westview, etc.) I do think that outside of district games, every school should find some tough competetion to play though. It only makes a team better when it comes tournament time. Records are tossed aside once tournament play comes around. Sometimes a team must travel to middle Tennessee to play girls ball, since "traditionally" middle Tennessee plays the best ball. WVHS will earn respect, but it may take some time for that to happen. To earn that respect they need to beat good teams. That goes for any school, not just WVHS. You must earn respect!! And yes, there would be those that would say that a game or two is an upset, BUT beat three or four teams like Cleveland and you will make believers out of the doubters. Respect is earned and not given. I think Bradley and Cleveland must WIN against good teams to earn respect too. Playing a team close or in a scrimmage doesn't get it for any team, CHS, BCHS, or WVHS... [Edited by tnwareagle on 9-7-02 8:58A]
  13. Now wait a minute. I will have to take up for Coach Insel. He is one heck of a coach. [Edited by tnwareagle on 8-30-02 9:08A]
  14. I think that this is a new poll, but I am not sure either. I just looked at it and it said for the week of August 26. But yes, these are opinions and most would be based on a team's finish last year and how many returned from that team.
  15. tnwareagle, you stand corrected this time. If I recall correctly, Bradley's seniors failed to be productive in post season play last year. They faded somewhere around mid-season. As for either being offered a chance to play at any 4-year university, it just ain't happening for me. :confused:I am lost here... What did I say that you were correcting me on? [Edited by tnwareagle on 8-26-02 12:12P] [Edited by tnwareagle on 8-26-02 12:13P]
  16. I have said it before, the successful programs like those of Shelbyville, Oak Ridge, Bradley, Jackson County, Sevier County, etc. (and now you can add Lawrence County to that list of successful programs), attract players. Good players want to play for great programs, and if the parents are able to get the player to that program then they should be appluaded and not condemned. It is an attribute to both the programs and the coaches that the players choose to go there. And as far as AAU is concerned--- any coach of any school could coach AAU. Instead of sitting back and criticizing the coaches that do coach AAU, maybe your coach should join the ranks and coach a team too. I think that it is great that a high school coach is willing to put forth the time and expense to coach my daughter. [Edited by tnwareagle on 8-25-02 12:15P]
  17. Wow.. soembody hit a sore spot didn't they?? I have utmost respect for someone who sat on the bench for that long and stuck it out until her senior year. I think anyone that knows that story (with the exception of AAwatcher) has admiration for your dedication. And what a tremendous senior year you had too!!! Helping your team to the substate. I was impressed. I wish ALL players had that dedication.
  18. Programs and traditions "attract" the good players. The coaches and schools do not need to "recruit", the programs speak for themselves. Case closed!!!
  19. Good response, but on the same idea, don't judge those players that do choose schools for sports reasons. It works both ways. Some may choose a school for academics, some for sports, some for music, some for convenience, some for social reasons, etc. DO NOT Judge any of them at either school.
  20. Haha.. See you know me just too well.. And you know just how nuch it bothers me that UT is in trouble.. Oh, like always UT will somehow get out of their situation. Believe it or not, I almost did not reply to that idiot, BUT, he just kept on and on, so I had to.... You know me....
  21. Yard Dogs lost by one run to the Arlington Wizards in a well-played game by both teams. (5-4) Congratulations to the Yard Dogs on a great season. Also Congratulations and good luck to the Knoxville Stars for playing in the championship game of the classic tourney. Good luck!!!!! 22. The Knoxville Yard Dogs are in the final 16 and play tomorrow to see if they get to advance to the final eight bracket play.
  23. I don't know. I am just the innocent fan and parent here.. Just show up when the schedule says to show up and where.. Dont' know the whys of any of it, but I do know that there are "two sides to every story." And when players are being told that certain schools won't play them, there is more to the stories than just winning or losing. YOU know the story...
