  1. I hope to break lose and come watch the DB/SHHS rematch again this year. I like sitting low, where you can hear Stacy stomping and cussing. What I'm really hoping for is a rematch between Stacy and the DB band director. The ADs should know better than to allow those two swollen heads on the same field. And meanwhile, across the field, in Mayberry.....
  2. I'm confused, I thought Kingsport couldn't advance beyond the early playoff rounds and couldn't beat the teams west of Mo-town, because they played cupcakes during the regular season. I am sure I heard some of you guys state that you needed to play better competition so you'd be ready for the playoffs. Why are you complaining now? You got your wish,
  3. I agree that there are some lazy, worthless HS referees. There are some good ones and a few great ones in TN. There always will be some of each. But, high school football fans, in general, are some of the most ignorant too. I was given a rule book last season, by a ref buddy, to look up some stuff myself. And i say it again, high school football fans are ignorant, and I was one of them. "Breaking the huddle with 12 men" isn't even a rule in high school football, so I call BS on your post.
  4. (Kidding, jhilts. You didn't say the above. I saw where the a DB fella and you were having fun changing quotes. I couldn't resist. )
  5. I had the privilege of getting a top deck ticket for the first time, that was very cool. As a non-Homer for either school, yes, this bunch of referees were pretty bad. To answer you question, the refs were from Greeneville. I recognized the little fat one from basketball. Hahaha
  6. There's no such thing as "uncatchable pass" in high school football.
  7. There's no such thing as "uncatchable pass" in high school football.
  8. Back to the topic of this DB thread... the scrimmages. I heard the Indians did not look very good versus the Cyclones. Anyone have a take on this one? I missed it. I did see the Indians versus South earlier this year, although it was from a distance in my fat boy chair on the hill above the track, and they, nor South, looked very good at all. Are there any "good" teams in NET this year?
  9. City folk have been doing it for years, RebRaider. Heck, it was just a few years ago that a city player's family "rented an apartment" just for football season his senior year, sent little Johnny off to play at a county school where he would get playing time, then transferred junior back for graduation at his city school. How's that for working the rules. All legal like... just saying... No names
  10. I'm in agreement with Waco here.... "Recruiter"...i.e, the kid's relative, you aren't helping him here. I suggest you work on those "other" issues and stop trolling. We can all name high school players during our own eras, so two pats on your back for that. You're very transparent. NO real recruiter would post on a frigging chat board like this. Bahaha! I do hope the baggage, yes baggage, gets put away for good. Carter is a no BS kind of coach and is good at making players toe the line, so the future could be bright. Here's to hoping the Toppers and Indians have a good year.
  11. Hey Bat, just for clarity sake, I don't have a team. No Homer here. I'm not from here originally and no real ties to any school. I have really enjoyed watching some schools more than others, as I bop around from place to place on Fridays in the fall. It's easier to be a fan of some programs due to the way they play and the character they show. I'm a fan of all the Friday Night kids really. On the otherhand, some places do have fans that I enjoy watching eat crow, because they yak so much. They know who they are, and everyone else can pick them out of the crowd...
  12. Waco, I actually was thinking this was the old Region 1, clicked Science Hill over Dobyns-Bennett and hit the button, before I saw Murlville. I then thought, "well crap, that was not good". So, consider my vote simply placing DB below Science Hill. Thanks for your cancelling vote though.
  13. Hello Dark Knight: Uh, no. South will not be starting a freshman at qb. South will be starting a sophomore at qb this season. Greeneville, I doubt a FR will start at QB there either, but probable playing time as the HC grooms the boy. Batman, as far as the 9th grade "pups" go, from what I hear South's 9th grade class is stacked as well, so I wouldn't start marking the 'W' on the 2017-2018 schedule yet. I do know Colonial Heights Middle went undefeated last year and couldnt get anyone to play them post season. Rumor is they have 4 or 5 quality transfers as well, some from in-state and some from elsewhere. Regardless, freshman are down the road. As for this year's Rebels, I was told they looked ok vs DB in the scrimmage. I doubt either team was using much of the playbook. I still think the program will dip for two years, but what do I know. The Rebels have had a way of rising to most occasions. I do think it will be interesting to see these Rebels, after the exodus of so much graduating talent, and the same at Elizabethton graduating their RB and others. I do not see a confernce team playing with the Greene Devils for 2 years however.
  14. It certainly does depend on the kid: Several factors. 1. physical maturity 2. age 3. attitude. One loophole I wish the TSSAA would fix/prevent is parents from neighboring states, holding their kids back 1 to 2 years (!!) and then sending them across the state line to play as a "freshman" until they are too old in TN, then transferring back to their home state to finish their "career". Pretty solid rumor that Dobyns Bennett is getting a freshman from Gate City VA, this year, that was held back two years, soley for sports. I hear he's driving in 8th grade. haha! He will be to old to play as a senior here, so he will simply skip back to Gate City. Gate City, in general has been notorious for holding kids back for years and years. Its a shame on the parents and all the schools in both states.
  15. I wish you and your Rebels well in 2015...its going to be a challenging season. I hope you do have a great year and get into the playoffs. You're a classy bunch and I've always been treated well when I've attended on Friday nights. I just think its going to be a tough season. I've heard good things about some of the returners and also some of the underclassmen. I'd be careful not to put too much on a rising sophomore qb however. He's going to be another great South qb, but he's young. You guys certaing have developed some great qbs and wrs through the years though (and a couple fantastic backs), so I won't count you out. I just think the Rebel pendulum will start swinging back towards the great team mark in a few.
  16. Not this year for the Rebels. Their pendulum is swinging the other direction a couple years, IMO.
  17. Uhhh, you want to put a little information into this? Where is this being held? Is this the book-writing, football expert, former Science Hill head coach, Scott Smith?
  18. I think blazer1set's question was a loaded one as well. DB has been accused of recruiting in NET for a long time as well. Admittedly, they have gotten their share of transfers. Trying to stir the pot a bit? I like it.
  19. Admittedly, I don't see as many 1A and 2A games as I should. Mainly because the larger schools are an easier drive for me, and I don't like driving a lot in the dark and in traffic. Although I did watch all the state championships this year including the 1A and 2A games. I did see the 1A and 2A state games and can't recall anything crazy or big mess ups in those games. (I missed the privates on Thursday) Are you guys saying a couple 5As or 6As will get better zebras than a 1A or 2A matchup? Why is that? I'm attempting to wrap my pea-brain around this. pujo, I'm in your area for Friday night games. I'm curious to what you think. pujo, do you think better refs are sent to the DB versus Science Hill or Greeneville vs South games, rather than Cloudland, Hampton, etc? Do you think the 1A or 2A state zebras are lower on the totem pole than the 5A or 6A?
  20. BVD, I hear you guys have more talent coming up. Congrats on the future. I'm going to try to see the Devils play at least once in 2015. I want to see how these new schedule shake out though first. I do really enjoy looking over all the area matchups, week to week, and deciding where to go. I probably see more 'different' teams play in a season because of this than anybody. It's fun sitting with all the different teams and hitting all the different concessions! 2015 will be fun with new matchups and still some old rivalries. To answer your original question above. (why not us?): The Devils' lack of a passing game hurts you, in my opinion. That would be an area I'd work on. I do think the Devils win their new conference without a loss in 2015 (as South may be down, and Betsy isn't in the mix anymore as they dropped a classification). But to progress down the road, you need a better passing game. Team speed is an issue mentioned above, but you can't just create team speed like Fulton. South had you guys in the speed area this year, but neither of you could match the Fulton speed as I saw online (I must note: I never actually saw Fulton in person, but theres a lot of video online).
  21. No button pushed. I was just correcting ya. "We" arent plaing anything, because I am not a South, Greeneville, or whoever Homer. I'm a transplant here, and call 'em as I see 'em. But, good luckl to your green team with the round ball.
  22. Well, I'm in line with Batman on the new scheduling. I think this will be good for DB, ultimately. For Science Hill too. Now, If you guys could just get a new AD you'd be in much better shape to build towards your goal of a gold ball. I'm starting to get the post high school football season blues already. I hate round ball.
  23. Greenegreen22, I just went back and watched some highlights of your alls game. Just to quell your whiny conspiracy theory. Check it out on one of those unapproved websites that rhymes with puddle. I found it on the big website that rhymes with Lax Steps and it was a link from the Puddle. The flag you call "phantom", was a foul on Greene #1, and the flag was thrown 7 yards before the South kid fumbled. It is clearly seen in the video, as the South WR turned, after catching the ball, #1 had his facemask, briefly turning his head. Not much of a facemask at all, but he had a hold of it nonetheless. The side zebra immediatly threw the flag, the South kid turned, went 7 yards, and then fumbled, where Greeneville recovered the ball. The phantom flag you are incorrectly chirping about, can be clearly seen even after Greeneville recovered the fumble, laying directly on the 30 yard line, about 3-4 feet under the big 30 on the field. As a non-homer who enjoyed that game, I can tell you this, that zebra crew missed stuff both ways, but the facemask was correct.
