  1. Good job, Kendra. Hope to see you on the college floor next year! Good luck! Hope you have a great senior year. We are proud of you! Go Chargers!
  2. Greenfieldfan, Not for sure if he has lost his mind. That might be debatable. I do know that he has lost a lot of weight. Maybe all that weight loss and time spent at Jenny Craig did not affect his mind. Stay away from those Wendy's Deluxe meals - they are only $2.99.
  3. Thanks Mr/Mrs Parisriverrat for that correction. It was close to midnight - therefore my spell checker retired for the night.
  4. It is a shame that something could not have been worked out. I haven't been around her family in years, but I have been around D. Higgs and she is such a nice person. She was having a fine season. Best wishes to D. Higgs. We have to move on regardless of what happened - just wish that something could have been worked out. Where was "Not So Heavy D" when we needed him -- That Great Diplomat?
  5. A good coach is a person who prepares his team for the upcoming game during practice. Practice is a time to discuss/teach/go over every possible thing that might happen during the upcoming game. Most good coaches that I have seen do not have to hardly get off his seat during a game. If he does have to yell, then it is yelling over the crowd what defense/offensive play to run. A good coach does not have to yell necessarily at any individual player, that is, if he/she has does their job during practice. A coach who has to yell at individual players have either not prepared them for the game or the coach has already lost respect from that particular indidivual player.
  6. What is everyone's thoughts on the game tomorrow night? Would like to hear your comments - who do you think will win? Westview or Obion?
  7. The same conduct that is expected of a teacher in a classroom each and every day should be the same kind of conduct that is expected on the court. Why should a coach be held to a different standard than a teacher? What changes from the classroom to the basketball court? If a teacher is not allowed to say those kinds of comments in a classroom, then a coach should not be allowed to say those kinds of comments on a court. We have had a double standard far too long.
  8. Congrats to a fellow Weakley Countian on a great game. That was an amazing game, thanks for those stats Greenfieldfan. I know most folks in Gleason wished that Kayla had had that kind of game against Lake County last year - probably would have brought a gold ball back to Weakley County. Hopefully, Weakley County will have a couple of gold balls this year. Good luck to Kayla and all of the Gleason Bulldogs - hope you finish the season strong. Weakley County has some of the best girl's basketball in the whole state of Tennessee.
  9. What did Coach Beth teach his players? When they are in the class room and they receive back a test and it is a low score - blame someone else - it is not my fault. When they enter the job market and they don't like something the employer does - just walk off the job. Things don't always go your way in life. Life sometimes can be unfair - squeeze the lemon and made lemonade. Basically, he taught them that if things don't go "my way," walk away. Coach Beth is the picture of what is wrong with high school sports and especially many coaches. WHAT A ROLE MODEL HE IS! If he doesn't like how things are run in the great state of Tennessee, stay across the line. He doesn't have to bring his team to Tennessee to play - that is a choice he has to make. People in Marshall County also have to make a choice - what kind of conduct are they willing to put up with in their coach? That is their decision and not mine!
  10. A high school player should not have to chose between her team and AAU. They should go hand in hand. AAU does give a player a chance to play in front of college coaches. The reality is that most high school coaches do not promote their players like our former coach, Coach MacMillian, did during his tenure here at Westview. McMillian would call/write college coaches on behalf of his players and the reply letters from the coaches would come to the high school to be opened in his presence. Since there are few coaches like McMillian, AAU is very important if playing on the next level is important to that particular player.
  11. I was unable to attend the game (had other obligations). I agree that I don't like to see a ref decide a game (However, if a player is fouled in the last seconds - it ought to be called.) However, what remains with me is that fact that Coach Beth, even if he didn't like how the game was decided) appears to have shown poor sportsmanship. If I was Coach Beth, I might have given the refs an ear full. However, his conduct appears to some, that he is simply a poor loser. Part of playing the game is how to lose with dignity. Should the ref called a T if the girl didn't say anything? Probably not! However, not being at the game, the girl might have been warned other times about her conduct - don't know? I wasn't there. What will remain with the general public is the fact not that his team lost the game, but the fact that the coach did not lose gracefully. He taught his team that when things don't go your way in life, you act like a crybaby.
  12. I haven't seen Anna play in over a year. Based on what I saw last year, I believe she is one of the purest shooters in Class A, however, she needs to work some on the fundamentals of the game. I would advise her to go the junior college route (Jackson State or Dyersburg State) and then possibly she could go to a larger college her last 2 years. With a little work on those fundamentals, she can develop into a great college player.
  13. Unable to go to the game tonight, what was the score? Where is HeavyD or not so Heavy D when we need him?
  14. greenfieldfan, what happened to Kayla Hudson tonight? Was it a bad shooting night for her? How did she handled the Lake County pressure defensive? Give us some details. We have a supply of puke bags left over from our boys game if Gleason needs an additional suppy. Greenfieldfan, good luck to your Yellow Jackets.
  15. The Warden, your post is food for thought. Thanks for posting a positive message. In spite of the fact, that beave has called people on this forum: ignorant, uneducated, and an idiot. I believe the beave to be a good person. We are going to cut him some slack. He was absent from this forum for awhile due to changing diapers and missing much needed sleep. He is not a bad guy, how do I know? Anyone who is a Westview Charger fan and a UTM fan can't be all that bad. Beave, just calm down, everything is o.k. Hope you have a good day. Hope changing those diapers don't wear you down. I always enjoying talking with you when I see you. Dudley scores again, Dudley scores again, and again and again...... 34 points! Luckily for us, it was not 37 points.
  16. I don't think your basketball knowledge is an better than your spelling. It is not "mesurable," it is measurable. It is opportunity, not opprotunity. Signing off on this post, my time is more valuable than to spend trying talking to a person who doesn't want to hear the truth. Dudley scores again - in a Union University uniform. It could have been a UTM uniform.
  17. Beave, your definition of an idiot is an one who disagrees with you. THIS IS AMERICA! I am proud to live in America where a person can disagree. I am sorry that you do not hold to those standards. Dudley scores again - this time wearing a Union University jersey.
  18. I gave Greenfieldfan some good advice. The beave and others associated with UTM don't get it. Some of us are trying to offer some solutions but they will always take things out of context. We love UTM and we want the program to succeed. Greenfieldfan, their solution to UTM's woes is to forget about any athlete who is from Northwest Tenn. and go to Florida or Miss. There is nothing that is going to change their minds and try to see another viewpoint. The above post was very critical of the Van Atta's. The Van Atta's had a successful program at UTM compared to all past standards. Also, Gary has a very successful women's program at the college level in Nashville. Last Point before I sign off of this post: Coach Bill Worrell, women's basketball coach at Tenn. Tech, first tries to recruit locally. He has a winning team. He mainly recruit from a local geographical area near Tenn. Tech. It seems that Beave and others are saying that the basketball players in Middle Tenn. are better than those in Northwest Tenn. Explain that one! What excuse will they come up with now? Dudley scores! UTM LOSES ANOTHER ONE!
  19. As far as Weakley County night at UTM, I read the Weakley County Press every week and I didn't know that UTM had a Weakley County night. Poor marketing! I know, you will say that I should have known, yet I am more informed about county matters than the average person. If I didn't know, the average Weakley Countian didn't know about it either. Marketing! Beave, I can accept your point concerning T shirts at high school games. Also, if UTM is being outrecruited by NAIA school due to rules, perhaps UTM needs to rethink if they belong in the OVC conference. Personally, I do think they belong in the OVC. Not to be overly critical, personally I don't think anyone at UTM knows how to recruit. I was told by a high school football coach that has a strong winning tradition that no one from UTM ever contacted him about one of his players. I think the same is true with basketball and other sports. Dudley scored another one. Luckily it was not against the Lady Chargers!
  20. Beave, I am sorry that you took my whole post out of context. You have changed too many diapers! Therefore, I will cut you some slack. Your last statement was one of the wisest statement that you made: offer solutions. Solution #1: As soon as possible send letters to those local athletes who are quality players. For example, the girl at Milan (Poston) is a great player. She will be a junior this next year. Make contact with her as soon as the rules allow. Just one example. Solution #2 Market the program better. Seek ways to make the players more visible within the surrounding areas! Give away free UTM T shirts at some of the local high school games! There are numerous other ways. Solution #3 For those who think UTM should not recruit locally, then people like you ought to use your lobbying power to schedule games with Union and Bethel. Schedule these games over a period of years and then either I will be proven wrong or you will be proven right about recruiting. (This practice was ended when UTM was beaten a number of times by these NAIA schools.) HeavyD is good friends with the assistant coach (who happens to do much of the recruiting), so use his lobbying power to schedule these games with Bethel and Union. The gym at UTM would be full for at least 2 games(UTM vs. Bethel/Union). The best way to help a program is to put people in the seats. (Some thinks only winning puts people in the seats, but in this case, losing will put people in the seats for two games.) Solution #4 Try to schedule the sporting events at UTM so that they don't conflict as much with high school sports. I realize that is not always possible. I love UTM and all of it sports programs. This is America and we can have an honest discussion. It appears that some people on here don't want to hear any opinion that doesn't agree with their opinion.
  21. My idea of marketing is not changing the name from Pacer to Skyhawks. I am still a Pacer and will always be a Pacer. Wescharge, you and others say that UTM made a mistake in recruiting locally in the past. My point is this: if you are going to lose, better to lose with players from the area than with players from Florida. The second point: even if they are winning (you can bring in someone like Candace Parker); it will not put fans in the seat without good marketing. GREENFIELDFAN, it is best if you and I move on to something else. We can discuss this all year long, but many like Wescharge and HeavyD like Florida players better than local players. Just let UTM continue down their recruiting path and continue losing than maybe Wescharge, HeavyD and others will realize the errors of their way. I believe that we in Weakley County have some of the best athletes in the country. I hope our lady Charges don't read this post. I apologize that some who write on here don't have any confidence in their ability. WESTVIEW LADY CHARGERS, I BELIEVE IN YOU! My advice, go to Bethel, Union, Freed Hardeman! Even if UTM were to recruit you, I would hate to have fans in the seat that did not believe in my ability. I hate that people in Martin do not believe in the ability of our athletics.
  22. Greenfieldfan, you are wasting your time. You talk about recruiting locally. The folks you are talking to always defines local as Miss. or Florida. Give them a definition of local and perhaps they will understand. They think they are recruiting locally if they get a player from the USA. It is funny that Weakley County has two #1 ranked teams in our county: Westview in AA and Gleason in single A, yet many on this forum think that none of the players off those two teams are capable of playing at a "high level" school like UTM! They say that they went the local route and it failed. Hogwash! They are going another route and are in worse shape than they were before. When will they ever learn? In my opinion, NEVER! Greenfieldfan, you might as well move on to some other discussion, THEY DO NOT GET IT NOR WILL THEY EVER GET IT! Their record, 40 years of losing and empty seats. P.S. They say fans don't come when they recruit locally or from Flordia. It sounds like a marketing problem to me. Perhaps those in the athletic department needs to take a marketing course - if you are on staff at UTM, they do offer discounts on course work. Walk across campus and take a course. The Chicago Cubs have fans in their seats and they consistently lose. The Altanta Braves win and they don't have fans in their seats. MARKETING!!! Dudley scored again, but did she play defense?
  23. Is Palmersville in Weakley County? How do you get to Palmersville from Martin?
  24. What happens to Gibson county when she has a cold shooting night? Someone has to play what is called DEFENSE. Unlike most of Coach Russell's teams of the past, this team is not a bad defensive team but this team is far from where it needs to be defensively. If they are going to move out of the region tourament, Dudley and company are going to have to step it up a notch defensively. Playing defense is not oftentimes fun, but it wins games.
