  1. Well that would make two coaches that applied that have 400 wins, but the one I was told about is closer to 500, been in the State several times but has no ties to New Orleans area. But sounds like they made a choice, the guy at Boyd Christian I thought does a good job but played with the deck stacked against him there. It will be interesting to see what he does here.
  2. Just remember the one's in charge here have made the best choice. Even though they had a State Championship coach that has averaged well over 20 wins a year to apply. Yeah they needed to keep it local just like they did in football.
  3. Is Keil or Luna a candidate again? Who is the coach with over 400 wins? Luna would be the only one close to that I think.
  4. I would say that there may have been several that we're invited that couldn't play or just didn't want to. I certainly wouldn't think that they would leave UT signee Alexa Middleton off do you? Usually they invite about 30, with the hope that 20 will play and know that 6 to 10 will not play for various reasons. Sometimes they don 't even get the invite because the school or coach fails to give it to them, that happens more than anyone thinks. But all in all this is an excellent group of very talented players, all are D-1 signees and had stellar high school careers. It should be a great game because the guys at BCAT do an excellent job with this as well as their coaches clinic in the fall.
  5. Yesterday was Loretto's 4th loss in the tournament. They lost twice in the district. Lost in the regional finals and then yesterday. Their tournament record was 4-4 after yesterday. There should never be a team that loses that many tournament games and gets as deep in the tournament as they did. It isn't Lorreto's fault, this is squarely on the TSSAA format.
  6. This thing started as a Football issue in the 90's when the smaller public schools kept losing to the small private schools In the playoffs. It had a ripple effect in that it made the Union City's, Jackson County's and Humbolt's of the world move from AA to A. This initiated the 'split' of D-1 and D-2 schools across the state. To say there is not a gap between most public and private school facilities is to not see the real problem. Why do the private schools need 2 state champions in basketball/football when only about 40 schools compete in the 2 classes combined? Why do we need 6 state champions in D-1 Football? It makes no sense. We have more schools that play basketball statewide than we do Football across the state. Truthfully, the TSSAA doesn't care about other sports, football rules the roost. But ask yourself this simple question, how does Alabama, who we all would agree is a true Football state, outdraw and outperform the Tennessee basketball tournament year in and year out? We have several ex-football coaches on the legislative council and the board of control of TSSAA who certainly don't want the others sports to approach the level of popularity of football. Also, looking at the football playoff format, it seems that everyone gets in, but I know this, when you lose you are out. Unlike the never ending, we'll give you 2nd and just for measure 3rd chances to get to state or win it, basketball tourney. Part of the fun of the tournament is to see the Florida Gulf Coast's and VCU's make runs through the tournament and the favorites get upset!
  7. Well I knew someone would throw this stuff out, so let's be honest would that probably make things more competitive sure. Is it fair for a school with almost 500 to be in the district with a school that has 200 in A or a school with 950 playing a school with 550 in AA or a school with 2,000 playing a school with 1,000 in AAA. It makes no sense. If you saw the 6 class proposal that was posted earlier in this thread, that may be the best I have personally seen in Tennessee. As far as the travels, who cares look at district 9-A and 10-A. That regional goes from Huntland on the Alabama line to Clarksville and west to Houston County. How is that for travel, but guess what they do it. If it is that big of a deal then play teams in your distinct 1 time per year and rotate from year to year home and away. Then schedule other local teams in other classes to have the traditional rivals and 'money games' on the schedule. Also under the current format, you have teams that can lose 3 times and still win the 'state championship', 3 times, ridiculous! You have one team that I know in the state tourney this week with 3 losses in the tournament this year. That needs to be CHANGED FOR SURE!
  8. Absoulutely laughable. Not a fan of either team but I coached basketball for over 20 years in high school(retired 2010). I went to see both Coe and Raby play this year and they are both excellent. Raby did so much for Moore County it is not even funny. I saw her twice, the first game she played wing and point.. The second game she played more down low either way she is great. When i was told she had signed at Trevecca I was stunned because she is a minimum OVC level. Coe I was able to see three times and she is good not as versatile or at least she didn't show she could play multiple positions like Raby. Also to say that she would have had the same vs Moore County as Silverdale may be the most ridiculous statement I have heard on this board, they were very good defensively, having watched the teams at the state. They were at least top 4 but from what i heard they shot abysmally in the sub-state so they got an early exit which happens. My prediction is that Coe will win because of the Jackson County brand and publicity that comes with playing there.

  11. You didn't mention Seth Greenberg VA Tech, Brian Gregory Ga. Tech, Billy Kennedy Texas A@M, Kelly Jolley-Harper NC State, among many others. And, well unfortunately there are alot of lazy coaches in Tennessee high school basketball that will miss this event and won't try to promote basketball in our state. Also, I heard that they added to the schedule Boston Celtics Director of Player Development, Kevin Eastman to in the last day or two, can anyone verify?
  12. Who were some of the past players and coaches? I know the 1997 team was considered to be one of the greats in Tennessee history.
  13. R u kiddin, if you dont know of Bill Slatten, you dont know the game One of the all time winning coaches in the state! As for following talent... didnt know that trying to get closer to his kids was such a bad thing (read above)!!!
  14. It will be interesting to see what happens. Slatten was good for those kids and I will miss what his defense brought to the table every night. That was the signature of his teams there. There were nights that it was interesting to see if the other team would score.
  15. I can tell you exactly what they will play like if it is the way he always has coached, tough and everyone will be asked to give maximum effort or they won't play. If the people at Moore County will let him coach (and I believe they will)he can get them over the top. His record may not speak for itself but it darn well could.I have seen all his Culleoka teams and most of the great teams he had at Perry County, he will demand alot, be very well prepared and there will be very few if any that will outwork him.
  16. How was this line-up a joke? There were several that received invitations that did not play, and 3-4 that did not show. Some of the others who committed backed out at last minute. However if you were there it was an exciting and fun game with plenty of talent on the floor. Also, I will give it to the girl's that played the week before they committed and we saw the best play, they had a great game too.
  17. That was on the old website, the new website will be up this week or early next week. The schedule you are talking about was probably up before he was added in the spring and was not changed because of the change in websites. He is still scheduled to speak on Friday the 25th at 7:30 followed by Tom Izzo at 8:30.
  18. The annual BCAT clinic will be held at the Nashville Airport Marriott, Sept. 25th-26th, 2009. Ky Men 11-12 Gene Menees TSSAA Rules Meeting 12-12:30 Chris Lowery Southern ILL. 12:30-1:30 John Schulman UTC 1:30-2:30 There will also be a meeting during the clinic of BCAT members to discuss topics confronting the sport in Tennessee. All members need to attend as well as anyone concerned about the direction of the sport needs to join so we have a unified voice. The calibur of coaches that are speaking gives you an idea of how well thought of the in state talent has been and will continue to be!

  20. Don't let that fool you rep, they are a very good team that beat Summertown earlier and most of those games they lost were within 3-4 points
  21. Rebelboy probably hasn't seen him play. I've seen where he has hit a bunch of three's this year. He plays very hard and gives a lift to the team every time he is on the floor.
  22. Culleoka is leading the state in scoring defense. What do they do and are they that good? They are only giving up 36-37 ppg. Give me details.
  23. actually the Culleoka- Forrest score was 59-28, Culleoka.
