  1. No problem Big Purple. Always enjoy watching Milan because they play the game the 'right way", they are always consistent, year in and year out, and they don't have several turnovers on their coaching staff every year. Teachers don't have to worry about a coach threatening them to pass a player if they wanna keep their job like some programs have been known to do. Or sweep something a kid does wrong "under the rug' because they think they need him to play to win on Friday nights. Other coaches could and should take note of the 'tradition' of programs like a Milan has and why they are competitive, winning programs each season. Doing it the 'right way'.
  2. How did OC do in this 7 on 7 camp- I know they made it to the finals last year and was just wondering how they did this time?
  3. No dude- what's useless is your arguments on what turned the program around and who turned the program around. Let's not get to caught up in records and take a look at the BIG PICTURE of what it takes to build a PROGRAM. When Coach Shanks came in during the mid 90's- he started a pee-wee football program and got the kids involved in football- teaching them the fundamentals at a young age. it's no secret at that time that OCCHS was known as a 'basketball school' with much success in that area- Young kids in the elementary school grades started to take up football more and more and those youngsters that played back then where the high school Rebels from the early to mid-2000s and on to this day. So let's not drown ourselves in the Rebel Kool-Aid of the program being turned around in the last couple of years-- it's a long process that began a couple of decades ago. By the way- If you folks on here wanna compare this coach to that coach- OC had back to back solid winning seasons in the early 70's.(one of those a 9 win season) So it comes with the territory-- usually in the case of some of the schools that are not the traditional football powerhouse schools, (like the Milans and the Huntingdons, etc.) one usually has one very good season every 4 to 5 years and so-so the rest of the time.. As long as the kids work hard and stay dedicated and are 'well coached' , then everyone should be able to live with the results, no matter what they are.
  4. For starters- it is completely and utterly STUPID to have a district made up of teams who play in different classifications for the playoffs(hopefully that problem gets corrected this summer) as for this district as it stands, here's how it shakes out: 1. Milan (3A) -- DAWGS Always have a top notched program- athletes and always well coached. 2. Covington (4A) -- Chargers return the best runningback in this league(just ask OC) 3. Dyersburg (4A) -- This is a toss up with Westview, so 3 and 4 spots could go either way. D'burg has talent returning. 4. Westview (3A) -- Always a smash mouth, run oriented team, kicking game is solid, were young last year, 5. Crockett (4A) -- Ward is a solid coach and the Cavs always have athletes, they could even be better. 6. Obion Co (4A)-- Senior oriented team last year, young at the Skill positions. will be tested early at UC. 7. South Gibson (3A) - This could easily be flipped with OC at 6, the Walden brothers can play, loads of potential. 8. Ripley (4A) -- New coach comes in and program is in major need of new direction- can be a spoiler late. 9. Haywood (4A) -- Always have been athletic but in the past decade never have been well coached. 10.Gibson Co (3A) -- New Coach will bring a new attitude to Pioneer country- could swap with Haywood at 9.. Overall 1-10 will be better in 2012 after a lackluster 2011 from top to bottom.
  5. Are the Big Red of Lexington going to make a deep run into post-season for 2012 or are they gonna have another BIG RED meltdown like they did last fall??
  6. Maybe some people just don't understand Hopefully their is potential there to have another 9 win season. These posts are sometimes more opinionated than informational and we're trying to distinguish what is reality and what is coach speak from all the Kool-Aid drinkers.
  7. We folks in other parts of the state are glad that ESPN2 is carrying this game. Hopefully these two quality programs can put on a good show of solid fundamentally sound high school football. Looking forward to it.
  8. Speaking of videos make sure to tune in to the following: Alcoa to play at Maryville on Sunday, August 26th on ESPN2 It will be a noon (EDT) kickoff when Alcoa plays at Maryville on Sunday, August 26th... and will be televised nationally on ESPN2 These are two traditional powerhouse high school football programs that all other programs should take note and aspire to be.
  9. yeah- they played some last year. and don't get me wrong there fella- OC has some youth and talent- just lacking the big game experience that the transfers brought to the table the last couple of years(although I thought some of the WR that were already there were tougher and better at catching over the middle than the one they brought in) . A favorable schedule will help this upcoming season with the likes of Gibson ,Ripley and Haywood will get some wins on the books, but UC, Montgomery Central, South Gibson will not be pushovers this season like they were last year. Covington,D'burg, Westview and even Crockett will play smash mouth and , once again as stated earlier, OC defense will have to stop the running game to have success. I hope the young kids can grow up quickly and shock some of these teams.
  10. the machine wrote:: define experienced skill position players. Because they have three! --- Who are they??.. All of the OC skill players graduated last season(QB, 4 WR, and RB) they all started and a couple on the line as well. Some could have "transfered" in though-- so we'll have to see when school begins in August..
  11. This comes down to whether or not OC can stop UC's ground game and the mid-line Veer offense- The Rebels have had a couple of decent seasons with a favorable schedule but the games they've lost was due to the inability to stop the run. Now this applies only to good , consistent run oriented offenses(not a Gibson Co.) Whether it be 1A or whatever, UC will feature the best back in the NW Tennsessee area and it will be the Rebels job to try and stop him. No experienced skill position players return for Central so they will definately be tested in Week 0 (a mid-August game, WOW) This game takes place at UC's War Memorial Stadium and it will be on a Friday night(when most of high school football is played) Should be an interesting matchup..
  12. Interesting that a video had to be posted-- whether it be self promotion of a program or self-aggrandizing of an individual- the fact remains OC continues to have trouble consistently stopping a quality run game from the opponents who block and run offenses well.. It will be a different Rebel team that will take the field at UC War Memorial Stadium when OC/UC clash in Mid-August.(is there anyway the schedules can begin any earlier,LOL- Late July perhaps) With all the heavy graduation losses from this past season(and those who didn't graduate, but left as soon as the season was over) Central returns very few skilled position players and is probably going to be more experienced defensively. They will be tested early by the UC Tornado Mid-line Veer with the best fullback in the county leading the way. No matter if it's 1A vs. 4A or 2A vs. 5A or the Rock vs. Mick Foley, THE FACT OF THE MATTER is-- you've got 11 young men on each side and they will line up and see who is stronger and who can punch who in the mouth.. Line of scrimmage battles will determine this one. No flashy gimmick plays here will do the trick..
  13. Were other coaches there as well? Looks like a Covington coach is giving instructions on block technique.
  14. look for Union City in the semifinals-- and will have to deal with an always tough Jackson Co. squad.. UC could be the sleeper in the tourney under the direction of Coach Suiter who is taking his 2nd different team to the state tournament. (Coach Suiter took the Lady Rebels of Obion Co. to the state in his first year in Troy back in 2005) .. Keep an eye out for Amber Fair-- she's the real deal and only a Sophomore.
  15. Wonder if Gino will be in the Glass House checking this contest out..
  16. T.T needs to have the ball in her hands when the game is on the line.. LC missed an opportunity last year in what was a weak 1A field... They can definately take advantage this season and bring another gold ball back to Tiptonville to go with the one the Boys won last year.
  17. OC over Hog-eye,, I'm looking so forward to the HOG-EYE Chant!!
  18. Masengil is the real deal-- definately a D-1 Prospect and the reason McMinn took the gold ball last year.. Well deserving of a Miss Basketball Finalist. OCCHS has two prime performers in Senior Guard Macy Wright who is avg.close to 15 p/g and Junior Post Brandi Goodman whi is avg. 18 points, 15 rebounds and around 5 blocks per game.. Both players have up the averages in post season as each is avg. 19 points per contest since the tourneys began. I'm curious as to know from the McMinn folks- who to look for past Elizabeth, who else starts and will get a lot of playing time and who will be looked upon to score if Masengil gets doubled up.. McMinn had been on this stage before and will be used to the surroundings while OCCHS will be making their first trip to the Boro since 2005. It will be a huge key on both sides to see how the roles players will perform and it could come down to who can take care of the ball and keep the fouls down. Looking forward to an excellent Round One Matchup--
  19. it's the Suiter magic BABY!! Now UC has a legit chance to advance to the state Tournament as Coach Suiter could take his 2nd Obion County to da BORO (as head coach of the OC Lady Rebels, Coach Suiter's team advance to the 2A state tourney in his First year in Troy back in 2005) As a So. Fair is a legit D-1 prospect and continues to get better each and every game.. Others have stepped up for UC! I look for BOTH Region 7A teams advancing as Lake County can win on the road and will be very focused after losing their first game to 1A team this season. A veteran team led by Miss Basketball Finalist T.T.Flowers should be okay and punch the ticket for da BORO next week.. Best of luck to BOTH teams..
  20. Hope to see McMinn in the Boro next week-- I'm from West TN those teams from the area have had some great battles with the middle and east TN teams over the years. Elizabeth is a legit D-1 prospect and very deserving of a Miss Basketball Finalist. Could see both McMinn and Livingston up at state unless they have to play each other in the sub-state..
  21. Time to walk that aisle tonight and WOOOOOH!! check out the 4th meeting between covington and the OC! The first 3 meetings were classics with 2 going into OT.. The time - Jan.10th-- the place - Covington gym-- the temp--- HOT!!! OC wins 52-50 as guard Macy Wright off the inbound throws it to the other end of the court-- snowbird to Post Brandi Goodman-- Goodman , basket is good and the foul for the ole fashion 3 point play.. OC -- down 21 to 10 at one point-- storms back and comes from behind late by making 8 of 11 free throws in the 4th qtr after going 2-10 in the first 3 qtrs. Next Meeting-- Feb.10th-- the place-- Troy-- the temp-- much cooler in Central Station-- Covington wins in OT by a 61-59.. Goodman did not play as she was nursing a quad injury.. Covington had a double digit lead in the 2nd half only to see OC come back and rally to tie it and send it into overtime-- Precious Dyson fouled on a rebound and made the game winning free throws for Covington who ended OC's home winning streak that dated back to December of 2009. Last meeting-- Feb.18th-- the place-- Dyersburg-- 13AA Championship-- the temp- warm(especially the higher you were sitting) OC won in OT 76-75,, a classic battle that saw the Lady Rebs leading by as many as 19 points in the 2nd qtr. only to see Covington storm back as Senior guard Macy Wright sat a lot in the 3rd and into the 4th qtr. with 4 fouls (quit fouling! says the Coach Covington ties it and sends into OT as the Lady Rebs got a big bucket and free throws from Goodman to prevail.. The one has the makings of another classic--- Vegas has it too close to call but the Lady Rebels are starting to play with a lot of confidence and will need to this evening against one of the best athletic teams in the area... Let's hope OC wins cause I'd rather hear VOREBS sing than drive to Memphis Get there early.. Should be a packed house!!
  22. And the Hubbs kid that plays for Dyer County could be the best player ever to come out of the program.. And he's a local kid too..
  23. Should be an interesting opening round.. All 13AA teams have been battle tested as both the consolation and Championship games went into overtime this past weekend.. McNairy was upset in the 14AA district tourney after going undefeated during the regular season in District Play. They will have a tough time on the road at a very good Covington Lady Charger team. If Westview can contain the tempo of Bolivar on the road and emerge victorious, you could possibly see a 13AA sweep of 14AA in the opening round, thus sending the 7AA semifinals back to Dyersburg high school. It'll be intersting to see who brings their "A" game after almost a week off.. Getcha Popcorn Ready!!
  24. Lady Rebels of OC were down 17 at one point in the first half vs. South Gibson before rallying to come away with a 69-44 win. Lady Rebels outscored SG 28-8 in the 3rd qtr. and 45-13 in the 2nd half for the victory to improve their overall record to 23-1 and stay perfect in the district. Junior Post player Brandi Goodman, despite being in foul trouble, finished with 22 points while Senior Guard Macy Wright added 17 including scoring her 1,500th career point. Lady Rebs have now won 43 consecutive regular season 13-AA games.
  25. Junior Post from Obion Central 6-2 Brandi Goodman is avg. 18 points/game , 16 rebounds/game almost 3 blocks/per contest for the #2 ranked Lady Rebels.
