  1. This is what's wrong with the Mr this and Misses that....someone asked to vote on players never seen and looking at stats only. Why not just input stats into a computer...you know ole BCS stuff. How juvenile.
  2. Not really…I just think this is all a bunch of nonsense….Miss This and Mr. That voted by sportwriters that only saw a handful play and would only be marginally capable of discerning talent if it hit them in the face….which leads to focus either mostly or only on individual scoring stats. And we wonder why some players and parents have turned into monsters….ladies and gentlemen...my I introduce the mother of selfishness and division in team sports, all brought to you by would be adults.
  3. Yes South Central Association is just bad…Ray Moffitt and his bunch of father/son clowns.
  4. Unless a mugging takes place, fouls in a tie game with 2 or 3 seconds are really misguided….how many times do you see fouls called in college or pro in those circumstances. Yes this is just high school but because the TSSAA voids itself of any responsibility here, there will never be any improvement.
  5. I've never liked the Mr. This and Misses That or "best of preps"especially when it involves a team sport…all it does is add disention with teammates to what should be a team sport. How on earth could anyone ever legitamatley measure any of this….E=MC squared kinda stuff. If you want an individual award run track or play golf or chess. Otherwise..this is all nonsense designed to make money for charletons like those clowns at the TSSAA. Anybody want a six figure job…I heard the Association is hiring.
  6. The appeal would have never been granted let alone heard had it not been an affluent school. TSSAA was indimidated.
  7. Below are statements by the NCAA and the TSSAA. I don’t know which one is worse. That the NCAA is so caviler about deferring any responsibility that it was specifically organized to accept or that the TSSAA is so quick to advertise its safety cause based on one tragic case out of millions that it decides to consider. Certainly shame on the ladder for using the case to gain favor by preventing to be involved. "Number one priority" who are these clowns kidding. Unfortunately, Both organization have long ago lost their purpose and now only serve those not and never in the game. NCAA Well, at least until the next court filing: “The NCAA denies that it has a legal duty to protect student-athletes,†the court filing stated, which was obtained by The Washington Times. “But [the NCAA] admits that it was ‘founded to protect young people from the dangerous and exploitative athletic practices of the time.’†TSSAA Childress said the details of Garstin's case is being turned over to the National Federation of High Schools. The Sports Medical Advisory Committee could make recommendations for high school wrestling rules based on the case. "It's a major concern for us anytime we've got a student athlete that's injured," said Childress. "Our number one priority in all of our sports is to keep our athletes safe."
  8. Hermitage TN, TSSAA “ the Association†(AP Newswire December 4) The Association today announced the formation of a new classification (DIII) in secondary athletics in Tennessee and nicknamed the “havesâ€. The “havesâ€, which consists currently of Ensworth, will join all the current classifications in the Association that going forward will be collectively named the “have notsâ€. The criteria for inclusion in this new division will be that you cannot be a rural or title one school, you must have an attorney on staff and have as fans some sort of celebrity. The benefits of the new division DIII of haves will be the careful review of all calls to ensure that justice and equity are served. Schools in this division will have dedicated Association Executives to after the fact to review all calls for maximum effectiveness. Additionally every attempt will be made to interpret the rules to benefit the deepest pocket. Regarding the have nots, they and their student athletes will continue to experience the same apathy and pilfering that they have experienced in the past. And just so there is no misunderstanding, the Association does not review judgment calls (which include all calls) regardless of their impact to game outcome or player safety, because the by laws for the have nots do not allow that. Additionally, as a reminder, the Association for legal reasons has no jurisdiction over officiating for this Division for that responsibility continues to reside in Emerald City and overseen by Oz.
  9. ADs, coaches and school principals can become more informed. I got $100 bucks thats says not one AD, coach or school principal that is not on the Control Board understands how well this Association does financial and if they do, shame on them.
  10. In other situations that I've seen where there was post game theatrics it was the police or high school administrators charged with managing things. I've never seen the officials as part of that process because of the possibility that a fan or player might take out frustration on them. Ludicrous is a little harsh as it seems to happen all the time and had it happened here at least one coach and official would be working next week
  11. The foul was a dead ball foul on the defense which was behind so the game was technically over with the referee indicating such. I agree that 00 on the scoreboard doesn't mean that the game is over but in this case even the referee indicated such. Most crews (unless they are looking for drama) leaves it there. No way justice is served by a coach sitting out a state championship game from all this while an official just sits one out. If players can be cut or benched, coached fired, why can't officials too be held accountable?
  12. See the links below. It appears that the referee called (00 on the clock) the game and then a linesman threw a flag. Then it appears that the referee approached the coach with the coach appearing somewhat indifferent which drew a Billie Martin style ejection that he seemed to really enjoy. I don't have an issue as much with the official's juvenile approach here as I do with an Association that seems to have forgotten what purpose it serves. And I'm tired of hearing crap like our by laws this and that that basically serves to protect the Association at the expense of the members schools let alone its student athletes that organized it in the first place. No where is this more evident in comparing the financial condition of one versus the other. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4stUKtplMe0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPBaLWE0Gi4
  13. Dumb and Dumber…an Ensworth Perspective Living with eight children will subject one to all kinds of distorted logic and reason, just ask Bill Cosby. But kids outgrow it…it may take some time but they do get smarter, except in Hermitage this week. In the Ensworth /Brentwood semifinal football game this past Friday, the ref crew mistook the game for a Justin Beiber concern and decided to do an encore. Everybody knows that after a game, a normal crew splits and fast, that is unless officating is the time folks listen to them . But this crew decided to just hang around with Thing One going after coach Bowers after the game. I don’t know what was said and it doesn’t really matter…the refs are supposed to be GONE….because the game is OVER…you know double zero on the scoreboard. But the insanity doesn’t stop there….the refs ejected Bowers after the game and today the TSSAA upheld the ejection because its bylaws don’t allow it to overturn judgment calls. Then the Association suspended the official for poor judgment saying “there’s no place for it in any situationâ€. And I’m confused…where are my kids when you need them. What kinda of Executive Management doesn’t know that Policy is a guide not the Bible. Man do I feel sorry for coaches, ADs, players. For no good reason, on December 5 Ensworth will play in a state championship without its head coach and eight months of his preparation will be tarnished because an officiating crew did not leave the field like it was supposed to. And one official east of Memphis will give this about as much thought as it takes to down a can of Pringles. And our friends at the TSSAA will be handing out trophies with the absolute certainty that they are always rights…. cause its in the By Laws.

  15. A couple years ago our school began videoing and Internet streaming for free our schools football games. It was a great benefit to the students that participated and fans that could not attend games. Many of the schools in our community are title 1 meaning the economics of our children’s families are just tough so the ability to see games for folks that could not attend and for free is meaningful. Along comes the playoffs and the ever benevolent TSSAA. Its not enough that ticket prices have increased 60% to $8.00 and that the Association takes half of that, but now the individual game streaming that our students once did for free is no longer free. Is Ebenezer Scrooge or the Grinch in the house somewhere? Yep the TSSAA now says it cost $10 per person to watch, which is more than a monthly subscription to Netflix. Considering that the TSSAA in the last three years has profited over $1.2 million and currently sits on almost $3 million in cash not to mention that all of its officers make over $100,000 so lets just say this seems a little awkward. Last week the TSSAA preempted the prerogative of Marion County leadership’s due process by questioning whether or not it should have a football team due to the antics of coaches that have the collective IQ of a gerbil. Thiers is a sin of passion and stupidity; the above is much more calculated and a sin of greed. When is enough enough?
  16. Hermitage, TN (Business Wire)-November 10, 2013, TSSAA (the “Associationâ€), reported its financial results for the year ending June 30, 2013. Association revenues sky rocked to $3.755 million while profitability (in a non profit) increased 67% to $430,000. Cash and Equivalents fell just shy of a staggering $3,000,000. By almost any measure including executive compensation, the Association enjoys a financial condition unheard of in the non-profit space and completely foreign to its member schools. Commenting on the results, the Association said, “ We’d like to first recognize our Control Board for caring more about the Association than the member schools that they are supposed to represent.†“From $8 playoff football ticket prices to stealing 50% of the football playoff gate (also unheard of) and basketball Hall of Financial Fame Games that were supposed to help build a building but that we kept, our Board is always willing to look past the deplorable financial condition of the athletic programs across the state and to ignore altogether any concept of fiduciary responsibility. “ Association revenues from football playoffs was a staggering $860,000 and represents 50% of all revenues generated by approximately 200 programs and over 350 playoff games. It boggles the mind to think of all the effort that goes into all the playoff games that anybody would be arrogant enough to believe they should get half of the fruits of labor leading one to believe that Ferdinand or Imelda Marcos is on staff in some capacity. While some schools come out of pocket just to play, the Association did indicate “But we buy the trophies and you just can’t imagine the expense and pressure of all that.†When asked about its financial results in the midst of the recent recession the Association responded, “What recessionâ€? The Association also wished to thank the media for "just being dumb and not caring about any of thisâ€. “The media’s fixation on crap like what individual is best in a team sports versus having even a modicum of curiosity about how the financial resources of Tennessee schools enriches a narrow few just makes all this work.â€When asked about how its financial condition juxtapositions its mission statement of building character the Association said†Joel Osteen gave of that mission stuff several years ago but we don’t pay much attention to itâ€. We do have an internal motto we modified from Al Davis….â€Just pay babyâ€. When asked about the plans for the $3,000,000 in cash, the Association responded, “We are not sure but it’s going to protect kids somehowâ€. In closing, the Association indicated that the split of the Hall of Fame game revenues was going to be 50-50 versus 75-25. “Some of our folks did start to feel bad about the false pretense of all this and all this money we are making but we are hoping that is the exemption rather than the ruleâ€.
  17. GA gets 15% vs TN 50%....the TSSAA has all five of its executive officers making over $100,000 with the top dog at $170,000 versus $124,000 in GA and no one else in GA near $100,000....even though there are more schools in GA. That coupled with the fact that the TSSAA shows a $500,000 profit and $3,000,000 in cash versus GA break even. Getting the picture here!!!
  18. I wonder how many coaches, ADs, or school principals ever look at this Associations financial statements or tax returns and question any of this.
  19. Hermitage, TN (AP) The TSSAA wishes to issue the following statement in the aftermath of its botched video football playoff announcement this morning. “We heard about something not going right and that a lot of people might have been inconvenienced by something this morning. This is not the first time that we’ve inconvenienced a lot of people and it will not be the last. The decision to try to video the brackets was a judgment call and our bylaws do not allow us to accept any responsibility for anything especially when judgment is involvedâ€, commended Executive Director Childress. Executive Director Childress went on to say that the 50-50 gate playoff split was still in effect. “Despite the Association having $3 million in cash, making a half a million a year and one of the highest paid executive staffs around, you just never know when you’ll need a little extra cashâ€. “Yes we know that some programs can’t afford trainers and basic stuff, but when you spend a lot of money you need a lot of moneyâ€. Childress concluded by encouraging fans to support their teams “wherever we may send themâ€.
  20. I wonder if the schools get more time to alert the TSSAA of a scheduling error if they never see the schedule to begin with.
