  1. Define best. It’s an arbitrary term. Mack Hawks at Oakland is the active leader in wins with no private school HC experience. He’s at 723+ wins. Matt Buckner at Farragut/Bearden may have the highest winning Percentage of active coaches on the TBCA list that were only a HC at public schools. He wins at a .796 clip. Interestingly, not a lot of small school guys are active and on the TBCA head coach list.
  2. Really nice win for OS. Rare trip to the semifinals for OS.
  3. Rockwood has been in the playoffs 15 straight years, including 2 trips to the AA semi-finals. If RHS had dropped to single A in football like they did baseball back in 1998, they would have had more teams in semifinal appearances and probably a few state championship game appearances in that time. The problem for Rockwood, this isn’t one of those teams. Coalfield is the better team and at home. Odd things can happen in rematches and the playoffs, but CHS should win by double digits.
  4. Alcoa’s own website says their first year was 1924: https://4.files.edl.io/4a0b/01/13/22/180807-213a294c-7ee2-4508-9332-215a94e800bd.xlsx
  5. I don’t think anyone is arguing that Eagleville is the best team in single A past 2 year’s & would probably win from Rockvale or anyone else. The argument isn’t even about Eagleville anyway. No team should have home field advantage in the Spring Fling given the current format. If 7 teams have to travel to a neutral site, so should the 8th team.
  6. The issue is Single A plays at Eagleville AND Rockvale. The tournament is not a single site tournament and is supposed to be a neutral site Spring Fling event. I am not saying Eagleville would have lost if they played out of Rockvale. They have been the best single A team in the state for 2 years. However, the TSSAA gave the best team in single A home field advantage 2 years in a row when they had another option already built into the bracket. Why wouldn’t the TSSAA just send Eagleville to play at Rockvale to avoid the appearance they are giving EHS an advantage, whether it’s real or perceived?
  7. These districts are way down compared to where they were a few years back, but with everyone down a bit, it makes for competitive games. I would guess it’s going to be Coalfield and Oneida/Greenback advancing, but no one in the region looks unbeatable. Side note - Does anyone know what has happened to Rockwood? They were a perennial 1A power from essentially when they dropped to single A in 98 for about 15 years up & won 20 games as recently as 2019. Unless they get really hot to close this year out, these past 2 years will be their lowest win totals in at least 35 years.
  8. Of all the trivial things to care about… Let’s make something that doesn’t provide a competitive advantage, isn’t intimidating, distracting or offensive a point of emphasis. It’s a black smudge. I can hear this in an MLB game now. Bryce, I know you are a 2 time MVP, but your eye place is unfavorable. That eye black is smeared down your cheek! It’s on your cheek! You classless bum. Don’t you respect the game? You’re outta here!!!
  9. Britton, Phillips & Pryor will be hurt by their team’s records. Even though it doesnt necessarily correlate, voters are strongly influenced by team records. Robinson and Buckles have an advantage based on their team’s records.
  10. @crow Now that the region schedules are published, I see Oneida and Rockwood both have openings in weeks 1 & 2 the next 2 years. Rockwood will more than likely schedule Kingston week 7, but I would think Webb would want to schedule Wartburg, Sweetwater, Oneida or a region 3A school (Sale Creek or Lookout Valley) to fill the first two weeks. The OHS/RHS matchup has been a fairly even rivalry the past few years. Hate to see it end.
  11. Rockwood would be the most western Region 2 school. If they force a move and Rockwood stays below the 2A threshold, I think they make the most sense to be pushed to 4A assuming the meter hasn’t happened.
  12. Honestly, besides Jo Byrns, it would. If you look at travel distances, Region 3 makes more sense than R1 for Midway. If I were a region 1 school, I would veto that if possible.
  13. That’s still surprising to someone from Roane County. Talking to some Midway alumni that I know, they seemed not too happy about it (if true). These guys would have loved to be in the same district with Rockwood, Harriman and OS. I guess it’s a different mentality than 20-30 years ago.
  14. Midway wanting to leave Region 2 for Region 1 in football makes no sense. Region 2 has 3 county teams and adjacent county schools. Region 1 doesn’t have a team working an 1.5 hour drive. Thats an odd request.
  15. Rebels with the answer. 34-16. Felt like that answer was the back breaker, even with a quarter to go.
  16. 6-0 SG after first quarter. Two Rockwood turnovers are the difference in the game so far.
  17. I always see Marion County - South Pittsburg claim to be the state’s oldest rivalry. However, Rockwood and Harriman started playing in 1921 & played continually since 1924. According to a few articles, SP-MC started in 1924, but obviously the series is no longer continuous Also, I see Baylor - McCallie played in 1905, so neither SP/MC or RHS/HHS can claim to be the actual oldest. Several other schools played games before 1924. I guess the question, now that MC/SP haven’t played annually since 1924 like Harriman and Rockwood have, and other schools played each other before 1924, where does MC/SP’s claim to be the state’s oldest rivalry come from now? Not trying to be combative; I am genuinely curious.
  18. Been that way since I was there a LONG time ago. When we stink, we are terrible. When they play solid they can beat teams they really have no business beating.
  19. The garbage truck was moving pretty well in the first half….RHS is up 28-6 & gets the ball to start the 3rd quarter.
  20. Not really directed at you, but is there any justification from the TSSAA for not moving Eaglesville’s games to Rockvale? It seems crazy to force 3 teams to beat someone on their home field during the “neutral site” state championships, when you already have another site available. They could have just flipped the brackets to avoid complete home field advantage.
  21. Coalfield with a 6 spot in the 4th, now up 9-3 over Hampton as they move to the top of 5th.
  22. As a side note, 10 of the 11 teams ranked in the CoachT or TBCA single A poll before the district tournaments are still alive. The only one that didn’t make it was matched up against a ranked team in the regional finals. There is a chance 7 of the final 8 would be ranked. That’s actually a pretty good job of ranking.
  23. Well the order may be a little different, but both CoachT and the TBCA agree on 9 out of 10 teams in single A. The 2 teams that don’t match are at the bottom of the polls . It will be interesting to see how many of these 11 make the state tournament. It would be impressive if 1/2 of these schools make it. Eaglesville: TBCA 1, CoachT 1 Coalfield: TBCA 2, CoachT: 5 Gordonsville: TBCA 3, CoachT: 7 McKenzie: TBCA 4, CoachT 2 Hampton: TBCA 5, CoachT 6 Sale Creek: TBCA 6, CoachT 3 Peabody: TBCA 7, CoachT 9 Dresden: TBCA 8, CoachT 4 East Robertson: TBCA 9, CoachT 10 Greenback: TBCA 10, CoachT NR University High: TBCA NR, CoachT 8
