    All Prep Extra

Congradulations to Cade Thompson, First Team all Prep Extra QB, and Bobby Browning, First Team all PREP Extra O-line, both of Maryville. I know the Browning kid has worked really hard the last four years. Its nice to see him get some recognition.. GO REBS....
  2. Still no word... How about you Rebelsnation. Do you know who made all county and all region??
  3. I have been out of town for a few days and have not heard if the 4a all region teams or the all Blount county team has been announced yet.. Any info??
  4. What a game.. What a year.. First I would like to congratulate Melrose on a fantastic year. (Man what a defense). Well the big game was all it what it was supposed to be. I feel like we blew some opportunities to put more points on the board but just win baby… Defense: Great performance. DE’s played an awesome game. DT’s very strong, should be the best in TN next year. LB’s wow.. All played great. Parnell was awesome. Maybe he didn’t have the most tackles but he was busting someone in the facemask on every play. Childs, thank the lord for blessing you with great speed, thanks for what I thought was a game saving tackle on that breakaway run. Offence: I thought we moved the ball better than we are getting credit for. Cade thanks for 3 great years. This was not one of Cades best passing performances but he found a way to move the team. He was high more often than not. However, in his defense the Melrose secondary were awesome. I also feel that one of our main receivers became a little gun shy after a couple of, what I thought were, late and uncalled for hits. Childs, great catch in the end zone. Tallent thanks for a great year. Can’t wait to see you run next year.. AB and the offensive line. What can I say? You played great all year and this game was no exception. Like I said before we didn’t put up a lot of points but look at time of position and yards gained (right at 200 yards rushing, against the best defense in Tn this year). You guys got ripped off. In my opinion AB and the MHS offensive line should have won the offensive MVP for the game. Thank you Mighty Rebels for some great memories. Thank you seniors for a great run. You guys are the hardest working bunch I believe MHS has ever had. And your friendships are second to none. Good luck in all you do and continue to take care of each other. Go Rebs… 2004 – 4A State champs.
  5. Not sure what game you were watching??? It could'nt have been the Mayville/Melrose game. Melrose has a great football team. However, Maryville was clearly better on this day. You need to look over the stats of the game and maybe watch a re-run, or maybe take football 101 and learn the game...
  6. I know you guys are going to think I have way too much time on my hands. But, here are some stats I accumulated. This all started with research on the Melrose D. This is just food for thought. Records of opponents: Melrose MHS 81 – 65 93 – 69 Melrose played a team out of Mo. that I didn’t add to the figures. Not sure if that would make this better or worse for Melrose. Opponents Melrose played averaged, (for the Year), scoring 22 points and giving up 20. MHS’s opponents averaged scoring 27 and giving up 23. Melrose scored 353 points this year for an average of 25 per game. MHS scored 585, (21 away from tying the school record of 606), avg 42 per game. Melrose gave up 55 points for the year avg 4 per game. 33 which came in the playoffs for 8 per game avg to teams that averaged scoring 24 per game for the year. MHS gave up 129 for 9 points per game avg. 40 in playoffs for an avg of 10 per game. MHS’s opponents in the playoffs averaged scoring 32 points a game for the year. This took a lot of time to put together and all it told me was what I already knew. Melrose has a great defense, however so does MHS. Melrose offence only averaged 3 points a game higher than their regions average. So you would think that the offense is slightly better than average. MHS’s offense averaged 15 points a game higher than their regions average. I don’t know if you call this good, great, awesome, or just two touchdowns better. With all this being said I believe MHS can score on Melrose, (maybe not 42), and I think Melrose will have a hard time scoring over 14 on MHS. What do you guys think… Go Rebs…
  7. I’ve really enjoyed reading all the threads this week. Only eight hours away now… Good luck to both teams and I pray no one gets injured during the game.. Here is my thoughts on the game, and know I’m no expert. However I do know a little about MHS football. This game is huge for THS. This is just another step toward MHS’s goal. I’m not down playing the game I’m telling you the attitude of the MHS football team is whatever it takes to get to the next game.. This team is very confident but not overconfident. The boys are ready. I believe our O and D lines will beat down the THS lines. I don’t think THS has played a team as physical as MHS. I feel the game will be close at the half. However, the second half will be a different story. I predict MHS will have around 500 yrds of offence (300 rushing) and score in the 40’s. I don’t think THS can accumulate that kind of yardage or points against MHS. The team is relaxed and ready for a big game. They are not real happy with their last two performances. I believe tonight the machine will show is devastating head again. Oh and it also doesn’t hurt MHS that AB and Tallent will play.. See ya tonight. Go REBS. MHS 42 THS 21.
  8. Drem2 and Bill#49 Great comments. I agree that the linemen set the stage up for the, "skill players", to do their thing.. Most people think to play up front all you have to do is be big. Not Ture. Todays linemen are much more than that. Technique, balance, speed, strenght, size, and brains all come into play on the o-line. And the one on one battles are awesome. Watch the reaction of a good lineman after missing a block and compare that to a RB hitting the hole slow or missing it all together. The linemans reaction usually lets everyone know he was not happy with HIMSELF on that play.. So to all the quite hero's of football keep diggin. The team you play for is riding on your shoulders as far as you and your fellow linemen will take them.. Hogs are awesome...
  9. Maryville wins this one big... At least 3 TD's..
  10. Maryville.. Big, Strong, Fast, Smart...
  11. It was not easy this week keeping my mouth shut when all I kept hearing was how big, strong and good the Powell's O and D lines were. Well folks, Mhs's O and D lines are'nt bad either. D line was great and getting better. I really feel bad for Lawhon. I pray it's not a tear. The O-line is fantastic. Cade did'nt have a hand laid on him all night. Plenty of time to throw and big holes for the Backs. The O-line does'nt get a lot of praise and their quiet and humble but they are no doubt one of the best O-line's in TN. And one of the best MHS has ever had.. Go MHS hogs..

    Maryville

I've heard that a few schools have inquired about Bobby Browning. He's 6'2" 270lbs. He's 40 is 5.2. He has the size of a college center. Not sure if he has the speed or size to play his present position of Tackle unless it's at a smaller school..
  13. Our Hogs got it done against Alcoa. Say what you want but I believe that Alcoa's Def-Ends will play on Saturdays. Our Tackles were great. These guys did'nt get much credit today but I for one am very proud of them. The only pressure I remember was on low snaps or mistakes in the backfill. I believe we will run wild against Halls next week... what you say??
  14. These guys are the reason I think MHS will score 49 pts on Alcoa Friday Night. I've heard all the talk about the best D-Ends in TN. Well I for one Think Brooks and Browning will wear these two down.. MHS 49 Alcoa 14...
  15. Trust me people, Alcoa has no chance. Alcoa is a very good team and I wish them well this year. However, this could be one of the best Maryville Teams ever. Alcoa is not deep enough to compete with MHS. MHS 49 Alcoa 14..
  16. BIG, FAST, STRONG.. nuff said..... These guys are awesome. Welcome back to the O-Line Rhett Brooks. All Looked great. Bobby Browning is huge. MHS running backs should have a fun year running behind these guys.. So what do you folks think about our hogs?
  17. I know you guys will think I'm nuts. However, I'm adding an O-Lineman to the mix.. Bobby Browning from Maryville. He's 6'2", 270 and much stronger and quicker than last year. I think he will dominate at Tackle..
  18. This will be a great MHS O-Line. For you Rebel fans that are not fortunate enough to see their work outs, Well I really can’t tell you the difference in these guys. You’ll have to wait and see. The offence is running a new system this year that will blow you away. I would hate to be an opposing defensive coordinator going up against this year’s offence. A few reasons they are able to run this offence is size, quickness, and brains. I can’t wait for you fans to see this. If they stay healthy and play to their potential this is going to be a year to remember.
  19. REBELRON, Here is what I was told. Not sure how accurate this is.. Rhett Brooks 270 Bench / 400 Squat Bobby Browning 350 Bench / 450 Squat Cory Everett No news. He was slowed down due to his shoulder injury Matt Gardner 240 Bench / 420 Squat Jimmy Wallace 245 Bench / 400 Squat No news on Gary Tucker Last year 240 Bench / 340 Squat Again this is a WAG. Not sure how accurate..
  20. This years Maryville O-Line will be one of their best ever. These guys are huge not to mention quick off the ball. I know they have worked hard in the weight room but they have also work equally as hard on their speed. I saw Wallace and the Browning kid a few days ago, First time in a couple of months, it was amazing how much bigger they looked. A good source told me that Browning was benching 350 and his squat was 450. But most impressive was that he said his speed was down to a 5.15 in the 40. This kid weights 265, not bad. The entire line has worked hard and is bigger and stronger. I heard coach Thompson is the most excited one out there. Word is he thinks this could be a dominant year for Maryville football. I think I agree.. Go Rebs

    Blount County

Well I know most will look at my name and say, oh another MHS fan. However, here is how I believe this year will unfold. Maryville is going to be a better team than last year. On both sides of the ball. I don’t think any of the Blount county games will be close. This years MHS team will run the ball better than the past 3 years. The backs look great. Tank will be a lot of fun to watch. The O/L is awesome. Bigger, stronger, and faster than last year. These kids really like each other and will dominate D/L’s all year long. Get ready Boro MHS will be back THIS YEAR.
  22. I agree with all your comments. These kids looked great. I was fortunate enough to watch a number of their spring practices. There are a number of kids that look good. Tank Baker could be a special player. Not many kids run as hard as he does. The new kid, “Childs", Looks like he will help us a lot. Cade Thompson looks better than his last two years, which wasn’t bad either. The Offensive line is really big and strong. I believe this year they will push everyone around. There were a lot of LCHS d-linemen on their backs in the scrimmage game. I know for sure the Browning kid is bigger and quicker. He now weights about 260. His bench is over 300, squat around 450 and his 40 time is faster than last year. Can't wait next year should be fun.
  23. jw02 Keep us folks here in Blount Co. updated on Hillsboro / Melrose game please.
  24. I don’t think the MHS coaching staff or players were happy with their game plan or performance against Chatt. Central. (not taking anything any from Central they would beat most teams in 4A), This MHS team has heard all year that they are not as good as the past three years. However, 12-0 record not bad for a rebuilding year. This team has had tremendous pressure on them all year. Last year most teams that played MHS hoped to just keep it close, this year MHS’s opponents come into the game feeling like they can beat MHS. Well it hasn’t happen yet.. I have the utmost respect for this team and I for one truly believe they have a great chance to prove a lot of non-believers wrong. This years team is not the same as last year, THEY HAVE MORE HEART….. Maryville 35 Knox Central 21… Go Rebels
