  1. In DII-AA, Clay from GPS is the best player I have seen by far. Reece from BA will likely be a nominee as well. She has big numbers against most teams, although she was held to just 12 points against GPS this weekend, and Clay and GPS won the game. Haven't seen any teams out west, so maybe the 3rd nominee comes from there.
  2. Monday's Results: GPS - 62 CSAS - 40 Tyner - 60 LFO - 32 Baylor - 42 Marion Co. - 37 CCS - 42 Cleveland - 40 Tuesday's Games: Consolation 1 CSAS vs. LFO, 10:00 Consolation 2 Marion Co. vs. Cleveland, 1:00 Semifinal 1 GPS vs. Tyner, 4:00 Semifinal 2 Baylor vs. CCS, 7:00

    Chew-ooga Time

GPS did not have every player behind the ball. Throughout the game they left 2 forwards high, with one occasionally checking back. It looked to me that the hope was to spring a forward loose with Baylor's backline pushed up. But don't listen to me, I was actually at the game. I don't doubt that GPS was okay with a tie. What's the better option against a team that has given up 1 goal in 10 prior games? Someone suggested go all out and go down in flames? Really? Push players forward and get beat 5-0? As long as the game remained 0-0, GPS had a chance to win...a free kick, corner kick, break away. One moment could have won them the game.

    Week 3

I agree that college's couldn't care less the name of the school, and whether it is public or private, etc. However, the Head Coach's connections, experience and knowledge play a HUGE part in the recruitment process. Some coaches are willing to spend hours on the phone, some are not. Some coaches have significant connections to the college game, some do not. I know of a few girls who had zero interest from college coaches through club, but still ended up signing a college scholarship. I've also heard of parents asking for help from coaches at other schools because they weren't getting anywhere with the coach at their daughter's school. Take it for what it's worth, but the high school coach does matter, so therefore the school you go to matters.

    Week 3

Not sure why you would expect a response from the GPS camp on a ND message board... I'm not a GPS parent, and I don't see many post on here. Here's an article from the game, which may answer some of your questions. http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2010/sep/10/young-bruisers-slip-past-notre-dame/ I wouldn't say the GPS has a new coach. I think tis is his 3rd or 4th year. As far as grauduated players, it seems so. According to the article, GPS played 5 freshamn for the entire game. That's half of the field players. Article also says GPS has 12 freshmen on a 23 player roster. As far as something changing from GPS being on of the best possession teams on the pitch...it sounds like both coaches and the reporter agree nothing has changed: "According to GPS coach Dave Barrueta, playing possession in a soccer game isn’t always the best way to play, but when it works it could have good results. Such was the case Thursday afternoon in the Bruisers’ 1-0 victory over Notre Dame. GPS controlled the ball for most of the game, finally breaking through with a goal by freshman Katie Morgan in the second half. Baruetta was equally impressed by the performances of his freshmen — five of whom played the entire game. He has 12 ninth-graders on a 23-player roster. “They’re understanding the way we want to play,†he noted. “We teach them to play intelligently and not just for results. Today they were able to build their way into the game properly." “I really think they lulled us to sleep with their possession,†Notre Dame coach Jim Schermerhorn said. “We talked about it at the half, but we didn’t pressure. As far as choosing where to send your daughter, I doubt you need a message board to tell you that GPS is the best academic school in Chattanooga. Also, it seems Coach Barrueta has an impressive track record with placing girls in college soccer programs if that is important to you.

    Pre-Season Scores

I heard last night that GPS had beaten CAK in the pre-season 4-1. That can't be right. I looked through here and didn't see any mention of it. Anybody know?
  7. I know this is becoming old news, but I'd still love to see video of the answered prayer. Anybody?
  8. So, anyone who was there...is this pretty much how it went down? Was the game ever close in the 2nd half? Congrats to Ensworth. They needed to win it with this team. They should still be solid next year, but I can't see them being as dominant without Carpenter and Allsmiller.
  9. Amazing. Is there video of this anywhere online? Haven't found one anywhere yet, still looking. It legitimately should make ESPN it was that amazing. Can't find anything either. I checked Nashville and Memphis affiiliated online with no luck. Looks like the local news crews missed out big time on this one. It's fairly common for them to miss the latest game, as they've already headed back to the station to get ready for broadcast. I found one Memphis tv station that had highlights from the earlier games, and then at the end they mentioned the CB-McCallie score with no details. I think they had no idea what had happened.
  10. Amazing. Is there video of this anywhere online?
  11. Ensworth won the State Championship last Friday night when they beat GPS. Like I told someone earlier, the win over GPS will be the closest of their 3 state tournament games. GPS was the only team that had a prayer of beating Ensworth. Unfortunately for GPS, they had to play Ensworth at Ensworth. It wouldn't surprise me a bit to see Ensworth win in the final by 20+, although they might get conservative in the 4th quarter with a solid lead in the teens and win by less than 20. EDIT: And don't let the 71-51 win over St. Benedict fool you...Ensworth was up 21-4 after the first quarter and up by 32 going in to the 4th quarter. St. Ben had 26 pts after 3 quarters before scoring 25 in the 4th.
  12. Noted. While you're at it, let's have a spread/prediction on GPS @ Ensworth and Harpeth Hall @ JPII Ensworth by 15+ (Marie C.- 20pts, Alsmiller- 15pts, Slay- 14pts, 14rebs) JPII by 10 pts (JPII posts player get a double double 20pts 15reb) Tick.Tick.Tick......... Get ya popcorn ready! Sounds about right to me. GPS -13, Harpeth Hall -14. St Benedict by 12 over Baylor, Briarcrest by 9 over Brentwood Academy. Well, those are the safe picks. They very well could all get throught but at tournament time there always seems to be an upset. I think the most likely "upset" is Brent Acad. over Briarcrest. After that, I think Baylor has a shot at beating St. Benedict. GPS has a tough task in playing at Ensworth, but I think they have a slightly better chance of beating Ensworth than HH does winning at JPII. Here's how I rank the final 8: 1. Ensworth 2. GPS, St. Benedict, Briarcrest 5. JPII, Brentwood Academy 7.Baylor 8. Harpeth Hall
  13. Baylor over St. Benedict Brentwood Academy over Briarcrest. No UPSETS..... St. Benedict by 10+ pts. (Symone Daniels- 18pts 20 rebs) Briarcrest by 10+ (Taylor R. held to 12 pts) Tick.Tick.Tick....... Noted. While you're at it, let's have a spread/prediction on GPS @ Ensworth and Harpeth Hall @ JPII
  14. Baylor over St. Benedict Brentwood Academy over Briarcrest. What's funny? You don't think these would be upsets?
  15. Baylor over St. Benedict Brentwood Academy over Briarcrest.
  16. You should not drink before you post. BGA's post player has not been anywhere. Far stronger, ha ha ho ho hee hee. According to BGA's coach, Ramer, BGA's post-player, was sidelined much of the season: http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_169370.asp Of course that article also says she's 5'11"
  17. So how many years does DII have to be broken into two classifications (A and AA) before they get seperate polls? Does it really matter how good Harding Academy is relative to Father Ryan? I would hate for the media to have to take the extra effort to seperate and rank another class I guess all them sorry scholarship-givin' rich folk schools get one dadgum poll.
  18. Rix has started every game this season as a centerback.

  20. HALFTIME SCORE GPS - 0 BGA - 0 Game started over an hour late. GPS was delayed on I-24 which was shut completely down near Jasper due to an accident this afternoon.
  21. It was a deliberate handball taking away an obvious goal. The girl had recovered behind the keeper and was standing on the goal line. The keeper was out of position after the initial play on the ball. The shot was taken on more or less a rebound, and was going in. From my perspective it looked like it may have even crossed the goalline at the point the handball took place. A red card should have been given. By issuing a red card to the player they could best determine was at fault, the refs would have run the risk of being incorrect. By not issuing a card, they insured that they were incorrect.
