  1. Congrats to the Tigers on their win tonight.
  2. Papa, is that you behind one of your many screennames? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> I will find you at the game.
  3. Papa's cool in my opinion, a fan with his own opinions. In this case I AM ON HIS SIDE. I just wish more people would become Plus Members so CoachT could afford to install an IDIOT filter and keep people like "ijustthrewup" and "concerned22" off of here. Sorry, didn't say it right the first time, had to edit.
  4. You should be ashamed the way you refuse to support your team papa. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  5. I??™ve kept quite, but I??™d like to weigh in on a couple of things. First of all, I've known ksgovols for years and you are off base on your assumption JW. Secondly, thank you CoachT for providing this forum. Also, if you guys are not Plus Members, please cough up the $12. Best bang for your buck on the internet. I??™ve always been one to fight the system. I feel that sometimes there are too many rules. I tend to fight less now that I??™m approaching 40. I also think that having been a parent of two for the past 19 years has changed the way I see things, well of course it has. One thing I??™ve learned is that when it comes to children, our nation??™s youth, if there??™s a rule, it??™s USUALLY in place to prevent something from happening AGAIN. I do say USUALLY because I know that there are exceptions. My son played football and some basketball in high school. There was a lot of juggling when it came to scheduling up until he started driving, for my wife and I that is. By the time he was driving, he handled his schedule very well. Sports has taught him quite a few life lessons, both good and bad. He??™s a better man for playing sports. I have always felt that way. I can tell you now from having lived it and watched it, and I pay close attention to what goes on at our school on a daily basis, that these kids need some time away. I can??™t argue whether or not the new rules require too much time off or not. I know when we were doing it (2003-2007), we only had 2 weeks in the calendar year that we could take a family vacation without interfering with one sport or another. Yes, we had more time off from school than we did from school sports. I can tell you that when you really think about that, some additional time off is really not going to hurt the ???sport-specific??? skills development. I would argue that there comes a point of diminishing returns without this much time off. We are a fortunate community, I guess. We have goals and a blacktop behind the elementary school which is a 20 minute or so walk from my house. A bike ride is much quicker. We have two goals behind the middle school that myself and some other parents either donated monies to purchase the goals or donated their time to install them. My son spent many an hour playing pickup games after school in the gym or at one of the many goals open to the public. There??™s a church within walking distance, about 8 minutes with a blacktop and goal. Maybe the rules are biased towards rural areas. I doubt it though. I have traveled across the state watching and participating in some fashion in basketball and have seen the time and money put into it by parents and AAU fundraising. I see the dedication that high school coaches approach their jobs with. I know school coaches and AAU coaches work together keeping the kids playing ball when they can??™t be in the gym with the coach. There's usually aid for a child that can't pay their fees. Coaches are not allowed to coach the kids during the dead periods; however, this does not mean they cannot have contact as a teacher or administrator. Being a role model involves more than just teaching these kids how to dribble with their weak hand and how to break the press. For the past 4 years, the only time my son didn??™t have some type of contact with a coach was during that 2-week dead period at the end of June/first of July. Hopefully he either got to sit on the beach somewhere or spend some non-hectic time with family. That??™s the type of ???dead time??? they need. There are kids that need extra attention, kids who don??™t have good home situations. I have seen coaches bend over backwards keeping them involved, trying to be a mentor and parent figure. I have seen them glowing with pride when a student/player takes the pen to sign a Letter of Intent, and I have seen them shaking their head saying, ???I don??™t know what else I could have done, he just doesn??™t get it.??? I have also seen those coaches saying those same things about kids who have never wanted for anything and their parents have never missed a game. I guess I??™m saying I support the new rules. Sorry so long winded, but had to comment on some things. ksgovols, I believe Lipscomb offers some baseball camps in the December timeframe.
  6. I??™m from the ???walk-it-off??? era. I would roll or twist my ankles on a regular basis playing or practicing when I played in school. It was always the same thing, coach would tell us to ???walk-it-off.??? Then after practice you??™d ice it down and get it wrapped the next day before practice or game by the school ???trainer??? usually one of the football assistant coaches. Once off to college it happened more and more, I just didn??™t notice the frequency had picked up. My college trainer only wrapped me, never really informed me about what was happening. Only participated 1 year at this level, as a walk-on at that. On to adult rec leagues from 20 ??“ 25 years old. More and more it would happen, and would be much more severe each time. I finally had to give up playing around 25. My right ankle would collapse every time I would jump. At 30 years old, while shaving in the morning, I fell to my right when my ankle rolled because I shifted my weight. Because of ???walking-it-off??? and not providing proper healing time, scar tissue would develop each time and prevent the ligaments from totally healing. I have Chronic-Full Tears on 3 Anterior Ligaments on BOTH ankles. The T.O.A. (Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance) has told me that, with surgery, I can gain support again. Around 6 months recovery time. I have not pursued the surgery yet, but will be within the next few months. I now roll my ankles getting the mail and shaving. They hurt like heck all the time. As a result of the injuries, there is also arthritis and tendonitis that adds to the swelling. I know this is long winded and I apologize. I don??™t know that braces are the answer because I??™ve been told by an orthopedic dr and a trainer that they could create a reliance on them and you may be more at risk if you were to not wear them. The dr said best to wear them while scrimmaging or in games, but to do drills and such without them to give opportunity to develop the muscles that provide natural support to guard against rolls and twists. Also said, and I can attest, braces only provide so much support. Really there is no way to prevent this type of injury 100%. Ankle and knees usually get injured in game action, stepping on another player??™s foot, cutting to the basket, etc. THE KEY IS TO PROPERLY HEAL THE INJURY. I personally believe that these trainers that are assigned to the high schools are doing a good job overall. I??™m sure there are some out there that aren??™t the best. I do wish they would do a better job of educating the players though. Harpeth??™s trainer has been very good over the past few years. My son played football and some basketball and had everything from sprains (ankle, back) to concussions, and she was usually top-notch.
  7. Coach Wilson has always looked at these tournaments differently than most. I don't believe he submits scores to papers and I don't think he counts the wins or losses. KS, sounds to me like he saw something similar to what he saw in the CPA game and decided it was the perfect opportunity to get his point across. Looks to me from the Dickson score and what I've seen so far that he's really getting those role players ready as well. Looking forward to the districts starting up!
  8. No, you never said anything close to us having a "pretty good little team." If you re-read your posts, you will be confused and disoriented, but you will also not see those words. All you have done is flip-flop about whether Waverly is a playoff team. If it's when you are replying to a Harpeth compliment, then they are not, but at other times, they are. Can't have it both ways, if you feel they are, then stop tearing people down and give the Harpeth TEAM credit for beating the Tigers and logoff, not just that Roark and Horking is "a really good connection there." High school football stats are about as valid as most of your opinions. College recruiting staffs take them for what they are, inconsistent and innacurate. Very rarely is a player judged on what is in the Tennessean. Block in the backs missed both ways, holding calls missed both ways, yada yada yada. I'll give you those 7 points back; FINAL SCORE HARPETH 16 - WAVERLY 0 Happy now, I'll call it in to the Tennessean. My opinion is that Waverly in their current state won't sniff the playoffs, I'd have to see them with that other team you continue to talk about before I can say any different. Harpeth showed me some good things Friday night. Much better discipline and focus. Yes there were some drive killing penalties, there were a lot of bad block-reads in the running game. Passing game has tremendous potential. As the season progresses, those penalties should shrink in number. On a positive note, no unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. If this team remains fairly injury free and continues to put in the extra time after practice that they have been, I can see the Indians squeezing into that last playoff spot. The running game will improve with the continued work of the line in practice. Indians, your hard work and dedication in practice is already showing. Keep it up. Bust your humps in practice and the games are the easy part. You have given the community a little pep in their step. Good job.
  9. Good luck Indians. It's been an honor and pleasure watching you guys over the last few years. Keep your heads in the game and your eye on the ball and maybe I'll get to catch a game or two in the Boro. As discussed earlier in the post, I agree with ksgovols, 6:30 start times = bigger gates. I didn't realize my season pass wouldn't get used when I got it.
  10. I agree, kinda makes you wonder why all the fuss about the lights if you're going to play afternoon games. I would watch the baseball games just as I do the basketball, but they just start too early. Districts start up next week, I should be able to get there.
  11. Reminded me of Andre Turner out of Mitchell and Memphis State. Andre was listed as 5'11", but I'm not sure he was.
  12. Here's my list of things that Harpeth must do to win: 1 - Value every possesion and limit turnovers 2 - Get back on defense aware of all opponents locations 3 - Rebound, rebound, rebound. 1 - If Harpeth can limit turnovers above the 3-point line then Bolivar's easy transition baskets will be limited. 2 - Getting back on defense is critical. It's one thing to apply pressure when Bolivar comes up with a defensive rebound, but if Harpeth is not getting back effectively, and continues to put themselves in 2 on 1 situations, they are toast. See #1, if you keep turning it over at half court, your toast. 3 - Rebound like they did against JSS. Limit 2nd chance points, get a few 2nd chance points of their own. It's harder to fast break off of a made basket. These 3 points will enable Harpeth to control the tempo of the game without HAVING to make it a half court game. I wouldn't classify Harpeth a "half-court" team. They like to run, are conditioned to run, and are probably more comfortable running. If they can do these things, they win. Go Indians and War Eagles!
  13. Yep, if I could just figure out who that ksgovols guy is.
  14. Sorry K-Town, Coach knows, reread his response.
  15. No, he was referring to your post about the Liberty/CCCHS game where you stated you were laughing so hard you lost your breath. Here's my issue with you. The majority of your posts give the appearance that you are still in high school, maybe as old as a sophomore. Here you are an adult in a semi-professional role as a radio personality for a 11AA program, yet you seem to be REVELING IN THE DEMISE OF YOUR OWN DISTRICT'S TEAMS to the 12AA schools, well Liberty at least. Wow, a lightbulb just went off in my head, it's not 11AA getting beat that you're enjoying, it's only the Cheatham County teams that you're getting a kick out of seeing get beat. Dude, swallow that jealousy, don't worry, I think I'm the only one who remembers your 11AA predictions and how ludicrous they were. We know that NO TEAMS IN AA stand a chance against Liberty. We have established that time and time again. Stop beating the horse already, it's been dead awhile. Are we 11AA fans fooling ourselves? No, I can't find one post on this board that has said anyone will beat Liberty. Still look forward to meeting you, but you gotta let go man, for the most part you are chatting with kids 18 and younger, take it for what it's worth.
  16. Okay BC, Papa, PA, etc. I will be in the hallway Tuesday night in my Razorback red at 5:45. Look forward to meeting any and all. Good luck to all teams, play hard, play your best, and leave it all out on the floor.
  17. Props to you Coach (is that you?). If not, then props to Coach Taylor. You (he) have done a great job with that program. This seems like a group that will get to the next level next year. Good luck and keep doin' what you do.
  18. Hey BC, RollTide or Papa, what's the schedule for Monday & Tuesday (times as well)? Gotta get my travel plans in order. THX...
  19. From who I talked to that was there, it sounded like the bogus calls flipped against CW in the 3rd qtr, so sounds like it evened it out. Doesn't make sense that Bolivar didn't apply pressure on CW's ballhandlers in the first half, that's their main weakness in the scouting report.
  20. Hey PA, what year is the big kid for SS? It looks like potential is oozing from him. What's the story other than he's a hot-head? His tech was for taunting, he looked down on Giltner and told him not to bring that S*&$ in here.
  21. That would make the Tennessean box score add up correctly, they have him with 7.
  22. Can't make a prediction, haven't yet concerning any of the 12AA teams. I haven't seen anyone play except Liberty. Haven't seen the teams they play during the regular season. So I am not equiped to make a prediction. Can't make a prediction just knowing one team, eh papa? However, I do believe, that Harpeth has proven they can play with anyone. The teams they played in Murray were fundamentaly sound teams and they hung. The teams they played in Florida were a notch above most teams we get to see, athletically, similar to the 12AA teams, and they proved they could play with them and win. So that being said, I like their chances to finish 2nd in the region, IF THEY BRING THEIR A GAME.
  23. I believe they have been the odds-on favorite to win state since the buzzer sounded last year in the championship game. We know you've gotten the obvious prediction correct, so congrats. You also have stated pretty much that NONE of the teams in 11AA could compete with 12AA as a whole, seems you're a little off-base with that one as well. If you have nothing more to offer than ..."but Harpeth or Sycamore can't hang..." Maybe you don't have anything worth typing to offer. Harpeth played an excellent game. They did what they had to do against a faster, more athletic (on the whole) team team. They were patient with the press, deliberate on offense, everyone was blocking out and controlling the boards, and they played great team defense. If they can keep up this level, physically and mentally, maybe they can stay within 40 of Leberty. Congrats Indians, kudos to the student section and thanks to the South Side team and fans, they were disciplined and classy.
  24. Didn't really realize the difference was this big. Free Throws shot last night: Lex - 29 Har - 9
