  1. It ain't about the X's and O's, it's about the Johnny's and Joe's. You got to have talent. Good coaches in this state have talent, period.
  2. Has anybody got any information on the clinic that is held during the clinic bowl? I have been to the Tennessee Football Coaches Association website, but there is no new information. Any info. would be appreciated.
  3. Sorry for leaving Lewis Co out. They have some players as well. I already mentioned Colley as best DB, maybe best defensive player in region. Hatton is a man. He is a force and a good running back. Other than those two, nobody really stands out, which makes their accomplishments that much more amazing. Don't get me wrong, they have a slew of good players, but they play as a team and are well-coached. I was very impressed with them. They didn't win against Camden on a fluke, they earned it. As for some other players worth mentioning, Waverly has a good TE in Mangrum and DT/OL in Jewell. #84 for Adamsville is a very good defensive lineman. Just wish 6-2A much luck in the playoffs!
  4. Boyd is a much better back than Smith and the numbers prove it. Boyds stats: 159 rushes, 1526 yards, 9.6 yards per carry, and 22 touchdowns to Smiths: 212 rushes, 1523 yards, 7.2 yards per carry, and 19 touchdowns. If Boyd got that many carries, it would amount to an extra 509 yards giving him a total of 2035. Also, Boyd scores a td for every 7 carries. Using the same numbers he would also have 30 tds. Boyd gets criticized and it is only because he doesn't get to carry the ball very much. Smith gets it 6 more times a game than Boyd. Boyd plays within an offense where the carries are shared. People think he had a bad game against Lewis Co, but he only had 12 carries. I don't want to take anything away from Smith by any means, I think he is a terrific back; I would take him anyday on a team of mine, but I just think Boyd is better. Just an opinion. I think at qb you have to go for Lamm at Loretto or the kid at Richland. On defense, I think that Leonard from Camden, McCormick and Gilbert from Riverside, and #40 for Richland are the best defensive players in the region, not just at linebacker. And the Colley kid from Lewis Co. is probably the best db.
  5. Riverside is a good team. They are physical, faster than some think, huge, and very well-coached. I don't think you can blame the coaches for the punting situation. I saw both of their punters booming the ball in pregame workouts before. But when they get into a game it is a different situation. You have heard the old phrase, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink, " and I think it is appropriate here. I am almost 100% certain that Riverside's coaches give special teams their due attention, but they can't go on the field and do it, the players have to do it. I think that Riverside can go deep into the playoffs. Smith is an unbelievable back, Gilbert and McCormick are as good of linebackers as you will see, and the whole team plays hard for 4 quarters. But they won't be sneaking up on anyone, because this observer thinks that people that know high school football knows that Riverside is one heck of a team. Good luck to Riverside! Represent 6-2A well!
  6. McKenzie better learn to play some defense. Also, how about mixing a run or two in with those 70+ passes? Lake County is going to tear the Rebels up. They won't be able to stop the option and all Lake County needs is about 2 stops on defense to win. Similar to the UC game, I will go with LC - 42 McKenzie 28.
  7. Eddie, Coaches are good or bad usually depending on the talent level at their school. It is not easy work and having people second-guessing your decisions is not an easy thing to take. Coaches work hard in order to be prepared and give their team a chance to win. People should learn to live with their coach's decisions. If not, get a degree, get a coaching job, and then find out how easy it is.
  8. You got smashed on the goalline not once, but 3 times against Camden. How did the refs do anything? Richland was 1st and goal on the 1 yard line 3 different times and didn't score. If Richland would have scored, then the officials would have signaled it. Plain and simple. You just have to have an excuse on why you lost. The reason you lost was because you didn't get the job done. Real men own up to that fact that they just got beat, and simply want another opportunity to prove themselves. If you have any competitive spirit, then you will want to face both Lewis Co. and Camden again. You guys have a pretty good team. But you also have many mental roadblocks in your way.
  9. You got beat fair and square by both Lewis Co. and Camden. Cheap shots are the norm with Richland and they start doing in when they are getting beat. You got beat because of play on the field, not by anything the refs did. That is just an excuse. It just proves what kind of people you are. Take your beatings like a man. You guys have a good team, but the attitude needs cleaning up. Just an opinion.
  10. Get ready for some cheap shots Stewart Co. Richland is the dirtiest team I have ever seen play. They have a decent team. They play hard, are pretty fast, and are physical, but they don't play the game like men. If they get down, here comes the cheap shots. Anyone that has seen any of their games against Lewis, Riverside, and Camden know what I am talking about. Richland would be a great story in 6-2A if it weren't for their classless play. Richland wins the game, but they aren't winning any respect. Just an opinion.
  11. You obviously are deranged. Wilbanks is one of the best linebackers in the state. Trust me, you will eat your statement after this game. Not because I say so, but because he will make you. I have seen him hurt enough people in person and on film to last a while.
  12. I don't care how tall he is or how much he weights, he is the real deal. He has moves and he can absolutely fly. He is a natural runner, and for those who said he doesn't like the contact, he looked to me like he could take a hit. He is a very impressive running back, good luck to him.

    Union City

I don't think anyone is overlooking UC. They have been a powerhouse in the past and this year's squad looks good. They have looked great in their scrimmages and Coach Fishel had the Tornadoes playing with confidence. It's good to see because i know Coach Fishel is a great coach. Things are looking up in Tornado country.

    Tony Stewart

Smoke is on a roll. He might be hot, but that Chase for the Championship will not be easy even if he is first in points. Just look what happened to Jimmy Johnson last year. Of course, I could care less as long as Dale Junior and Jeff Gordon don't make the chase.
  15. Sorry, I meant last year's game, really don't know about passing league game. No, not cocky, just telling the facts. Camden was driving to score about 6 or 7 times and turned it over. But I will give the Rebels some credit, they could sling it. Hayes is a tremendous quarteback. As for the passing league, it really means nothing. Camden will definitely have a killer pass rush.
  16. Remember McKenzie fans, those passes weren't long ones. You guys benefitted from Camden turning the ball over about 10 times. Your qb had great field position. The score should have been Camden 70, McKEnzie - 14. Because you guys couldn't stop the Camden offense, at all. JUst an opinion.
  17. The best thing that McEwen could do would be to consolidate with Waverly. Then maybe there would be one decent team in Humphreys Co. instead of two bad ones. IMO!
  18. I would like to see more coverage of teams on the outskirts of West Tennessee like Lake Co., UC, Camden, Bolivar, etc. It seems that unless you're either in Jackson or just a stone's throw from Jackson, then you ain't getting any publicity. I would also love to see more on the potential Mr. Football candidates that will be toting the pigskin, especially from some of the 2A teams. Westview's Markei Guy, Camden's Josh Boyd, and Huntingdon's dynamic duo of Boo Weathers and Chris Donald. These guys can flat out carry the mail.

    Waverly Tiger

Jp-tiger, how do you think that Waverly will do better than 2-8? The new coach will have to undo all of the mess that the previous coach has made. I say it will take the new staff about 2 years to turn the Tigers around.
  20. I agree with your post wholeheartedly. The coaches and players of West Tenn. should be proud, because I have seen some great baseball this spring. I have seen some well-disciplined team and great coaching. Yes, there have been incidents of kids being kids, but the coaches 99% of the time do correct it immediately. Coaches today have a much tougher job of keeping a disciplined ballclub. Sad fact is that most of these kids only get discipline in baseball. As for the bashers and coach-haters, you do your best, because you obviously aren't good at anything else.

    EGG on HIS FACE!

There have been many free agents that have went on to play in the NFL. It is not out of the realm of possiblity for Tant to make it. I know he is a hard working fb player and he did play against the best in the SEC. Either way you look at it, he is a success. Even if he doesn't play a down in the NFL, he has got a lot furthur than the moron who was blasting him on this board. He will probably be writing your paycheck one day. With that Vandy degree, he can have his pick of jobs. Good luck to Matthew.
  22. What has Loretto got coming back? Are they still running the spread on offense? I saw some film on them last year and they looked young. Somebody from Loretto give me the 411!
  23. These two schools should definitely play in all sports. The reason they don't play is simple: McEwen won't do it. Simply because of foolish reasons. They should play Waverly in all sports for a number of reasons: both schools would benefit from the gate money at these events. Also, if McEwen wins any of the games , then it is like winnning the Super Bowl, and if Waverly wins, then they were supposed to win. I think it is a shame that petty issues keep these two schools from playing. Personally, I would like to see these games. I think it would generate a lot of community involvement in school sports, which is something that Humphreys Co. definitely needs. Just my two cents worth.
  24. So, what does Henry County do now?
