  1. Remember also that Jimmy Maynord was head coach at White County for about 5 years back in the '80's. He left WC to go to Riverdale and be the DC under Rankin. Got a ring there. White County beat Cookeville in both 1986 & 1987. The last year they beat us two straight. Who was the coach? Jimmy Maynord.
  2. I would have to say the exact same thing. Good job by Coach Maynord & staff.
  3. No we won't be surprised by their speed, we know what's coming. But compared to our first 4 opponents? Big change a coming at kickoff. But hopefully we'll adjust.
  4. Right. And the last 5 games we've had Oakland, Blackman, Smyrna, Siegel etc every year. So I wouldn't necessarily say we've "faded". For the most part we've won the ones we're supposed to and lost to better teams. White County will always be a non district opponent because they're our oldest rival. They like playing Upperman & Livingston because they're neighbors and the gate is huge. But we're supposed to win those games easily. Glad to see PC on the schedule this year, win or lose.
  5. Yeah Pearl Cohn will be the most athletic team we've seen since y'all & Oakland last season. We'll have to get adjusted to the speed right off the bat. I think size wise we'll be ok. See how it goes. New season starts now.
  6. First two are correct. Then... Cookeville 42 vs Warren Co. 0 Cookeville 49 vs White Co. 0 And it means absolutely nothing so far. You're right first test this Friday.
  7. That could be the case. I don't know about DeKalb but Sparta is definitely down.
  8. Yes he is. Thought he may actually come in as OC but QB coach is right up his alley.
  9. Hahaha! Funny Postman! This should be a good game.
  10. 90Warrior it's hard for me to believe that Sparta has sunk to this level. When I played against the Warriors y'all stood toe to toe with the CAVS. In fact in my 9-12 years (9th grade was Junior High) we went 2-2 against ya. I'm telling my age now but I played against Glass, Carrick, Coonrod etc... Still good friends with a lot of those guys especially Glass who I talk to fairly regularly But there's a common theme here. Who was the coach at Sparta when they beat Cookeville in 1986 & 1987? Jimmy Maynord. It's all about the coaching, getting guys out and building a program. No reason for y'all to be this down. Hope you get it back.
  11. Already put the rest of us in the 3 or 4 hole eh Blaze? Hehehe I'll be interested to see the outcome of this one too though.
  12. There was a lot of pessimism about WC here on the T before the season started. But contrary to that it appears they have very much improved! I hope my CAVS don't go in overconfident or it could get interesting!
  13. Blaze45 Yuck! You hate to pick the Cavaliers? Haha The Pioneers do look like they're on the come up, and that's great. They deserve it. That being said I hope my CAVS destroy em next Friday.
  14. This may well end up being Jimmy Maynord's best team since he's been in Cookeville. Good lines with depth & experience on both sides of the ball. Good experienced Quarterback. Some good backs & receivers. That being said, we could have our best team in years but are still probably looking at anywhere from 2-4 losses. 8-2 would be great. Looking forward to the regular season. And yes, Jarquzes Hicks (WR/DB) committed to TTU earlier today.
  15. Coach Odama reires huh? The Tennessean stated she resigned, not retired, but I guess we'll get to the bottom of it. I appreciate her service at CHS. And yes, she was a "good" coach I guess. Had some good seasons. One state tournament appearance in 25 years at Cookeville though. One. And lost in the first round. This will be a huge hire for Principal Ward. 4th largest school in Tennessee, in the heart of the hotbed of girls basketball that is the Upper Cumberland, with all the resources available, Cookeville girls should be an absolute juggernaut. I do wish Coach Odom the best.
  16. Congrats to Tyreke! How many kids have scored 3,000 or more in state history? Couldn't have been many.
  17. As head coach? They hired Chuck Gentry, who was OC for Jimmy Maynord.
  18. Congrats to the Tigers, job well done! Memphis showed out this weekend!
  19. Great win Farragut! That's one for the books!ðŸ‘ðŸ»
  20. Great win Patriots! Looking forward to seeing ya next Saturday!
  21. Stop their run & get pressure on him. I didn't get to go to Cleveland on Friday but I'm guessing he had way too much time to throw. Y'all should win this by a couple of TD's.
  22. Rebuilding? You're the #3 seed. Just how long y'all gonna be "rebuilding"?Everyone that's not the champ is "rebuilding". Somehow we've competed pretty decent in the great 2/6-A. Even though we're not from Rutherford County.
  23. He's a great QB for sure. But y'all can take him, especially at home. He threw for 411/4 td's against us and we had the lead till 6 mins left. There's yards to be made against their defense. I think all Region 2 teams win next Friday. Good luck!
  24. Nope. I base them off of last year too. The fact is that "some" posters were trying to say that Region 2/6-A was like the SEC, now. This year. And they said that last year. We're not talking about history. I know we don't stack up against those teams historically. But we've proven we can hang with the RC teams "recently". Cause we've beaten some of them. That's all that matters right? Can't say the same for Warren County & Coffee County. Anyway, the SEC talk has to stop. Especially when we're not winning championships. Oakland may change that this year, and I really hope they do it. Good luck to the 3 remaining 2/6-A teams this week. They all have a great chance to win.
