  1. Irishbball, Based on your logic of one game does not decide whether a team is better than another team then, Oak Ridge is better than Bradley because they barely lost to them at Bradley. I honestly don't think Fulton is number 1 but I have to rank them there because of the record and strength of schedule.
  2. Lenoir City has the potential to be a dangerous team... They don't show up against Heritage and then they play Bearden tough. It really makes no sense. They really must have some guys step up. I doubt they will finish higher than fourth in the district and could potentially drop as low as sixth. They have already lost 5 games this season by six points or less. They just need to learn how to win. It could also be coaching. Coach Williams seems to panic a little in the close ones. I think if he could stay calm, his team might be able to overcome it
  3. 1. Fulton (They just keep winning) 2. Greeneville (They are solid and well coached) 3. Bradley Central (I'll agree that they are better than OR until they play again) 4. Oak Ridge (They are really clicking right now) 5. Farragut (Tough overtime loss to #1 Fulton) 6. Science Hill (Only loss came in the Bahamas to Brainerd) 7. Maryville (Starting to gel with Eldridge) 8. Bearden (Very athletic and well coached) 9. Austin East (Good enough to overcome coaching) 10. Powell (Hargis and Conner keep them in the top 10) Others of note - Pigeon Forge - good but be realistic they are not better than anyone in the top ten (They had close wins vs. Sevier Co and Heritage). Anderson County- Just lost to #10 Powell. Halls - alot of seniors but coaching will always be a question mark. Catholic - Big win over Powell What do you guys think?
  4. I will say that I have been surprised with Heritage. Lenoir City's success to this point has not been unexpected. The district should continue to be extremely competitive throughout the rest of the year. I predict it to finish as follows. Farragut Maryville Bearden Lenoir City William Blount Heritage South Doyle Sevier County
  5. 3AAA Oak Ridge (Probably the best in the region) Powell (Big win vs. Halls tough loss to Clinton) Halls (Probably won't accomplish any more than last year) Karns (A player away from being as good as Powell and Halls) Clinton (They were playing better untill Campbell Co's intramural team beat them) West (Struggling) Central (Struggling) Campbell County (Struggling) 4AAA Farragut (Second best team in the region behind OR) Bearden (Probably not as good as Maryville but for now must be in front of them) Maryville (Starting to shape up and if Maples comes back they could challeng in the region) Lenoir City (Disappointing loss to Heritage. Played Bearden tough) William Blount (Overmatched talent wise against Maryville) Heritage (Starting to win the close ones good wins vs Lenoir City and Sevier) South Doyle (Sickness has them reeling a little bit) Sevier County (Other than Feezel and Hodges this team is too young)
  6. Lenoir City lost a heart breaker to Bearden tonight. 50-47. Great effort by both teams. I'm sure it was alot closer than what most of you would have thought.
  7. I'm not satisfied with the treatment that basketball and every other sport besides football gets from prepxtra. However, I do understand that strain in covering twice as many teams with 3 times as many games. I'm sure alot also depends on how cooperative the coaches are in turning in stats. I would like to see a few more articles in the paper concerning basketball teams.
  8. Have any of you heard of Blake Jenkins and Demonte Simpson from Bearden?
  9. Are you people serious. Oak Ridge is better than Greeneville, Bradley, Maryville, and Farragut. You people that say that Bradley beat them, so that makes them better don't know anything about basketball. You have to be 20 points better than Bradley to beat them at Bradley. Oak Ridge had a 4 point lead with a minute to play and Oglesby hit back to back threes to give Bradley the win. I would be surprised if Oak Ridge even gets challenged in their league this year.
  10. Lenoir City hosts Bearden Friday. Will the Panthers have a change? I think it will be closer than people think.
  11. Hats off to Heritage and Coach Hardin. The big run in the 2nd quarter was too much for the Panthers. This won't be the only win for Heritage. They will definately take down a few at home and if they shoot it like they did last night they will win some road games as well. Heritage is a tuff place to play.
  12. I do not know what you are talking about with this coachinhoops, twhoops, aka Jesus is Lord comment. I can only assume that you believe these people are one in the same. Based on your post, and from what I already gathered from Lenoir City threads, coachinhoops is Coach Williams. I do know him and was a freshmen on his high school basketball team in 1992. I am from Lenoir City and played ball for Butch in the early 90's at LCHS. I followed his career after he left Lenoir City to go to Dyer County. He was a great coach and an even better friend to me even after he left. I stayed in touch and still do. I know the whole story about how he was forced into retirement and all that crap after all he did for your community. It really never made sense to me because when I came and watched the two state tournament appearances, Dyer County seemed to be so into basketball. Since I really onlly have his perspective. Why don't you provide some insight to how things went so wrong?
  13. Congratulations to Gibson County and their assistant Coach Butch Hopkins on a great win. I wonder if the people of Dyer County will ever admit that they miss him?
  14. I'm not saying that coaches don't need discipline. I'm saying that to mold them that you don't need to discard them. You keep turning a key until you find the right one. I don't think a Coach should ever give up on a kid. Coaches are measured by the differences they make in lives. Maybe he is one of those coaches, but I saw alot of kids from Dyer County fall by the wayside that could have been saved.
  15. Yes our Freshmen are very good. The question is...Will they be good as sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. Nobody ever remembers how great a freshmen team is. Do they have potential? Yes...Will they fullfill that potential? Who knows?
  16. I know he has to have the knowledge being that he played at Lipscomb. Was Don Meyer still there when he played? I'm just looking at what he accomplished at Dyer County. I know he kicked a bunch of people off the team that really had no other chance in life without basketball. To me coaching is about changing people and less about rules and dictatorship. A true coach can mold individuals into what they need to become. As for his career prior to Dyer County, how successful was he?
  17. OOps...I thought you were predicting the Farragut/Bearden game. I will admit that I have doinked on my roast. Sorry.
  18. Yeah Right...Didn't Pete Froedden take over a Dyer County program that had three straight 20 win seasons prior to his arrival. The two years of his tenure they won a total of 5 games. Yeah he might be a great coach but I though one of the requirements involved winning.
  19. The Panthers better not overlook the Mountaineers. Heritage has played some pretty good teams close this year. They are an excellent shooting team and if they get hot early their confidence will grow with every shot. Besides Lenoir City hasn't exactly dominated in their wins, as all games have not really been decided until the final buzzer sounded. Lenoir City really seems to have trouble closing. Good Luck Panthers
  20. Nice prediction TG, being that they already played and Farragut won by 13. You should head to Vegas.
  21. Go Panthers!!! Good luck this week at Heritage and against Bearden on Friday.
  22. Lenoir City beat South Doyle 55-53 in a game of momentum shifts. Lenoir City started the game up about 6-8 points early and ahead by 4 at the end of the 1st. South Doyle stormed back and went up 9 in the second. Lenoir City came back to cut the lead to 3 at the half. The 3rd quarter LC wrestled the lead back and led by 3 after 3. LC built it's largest lead of the game to 10 with 4 minutes to play. South Doyle once again stormed back and missed the game tying jumper at the buzzer as LC held on to win. Great game by two teams fighting for 4th.
  23. An early season battle for fourth place in the district takes place tommorrow night in Lenoir City. On paper these teams seem evenly matched. I think South Doyle will probably win this one after what they did to Heritage Tuesday night. But you never know the Panthers are starting to play pretty well. Go Panthers...Should be a great atmosphere in Guy F. Talant gymnasium.
