  1. The SS fumble on the 5 yd line was huge for Maryville. But don't forget that the Maryville fumble on the 5 yd line, before the half, was just as huge for SS. In both cases the offense was about to score. So basically the two fumbles cancel each other out. You take the fumbles away and the margin of victory is still the same. It would have been 55-28 instead of 48-21.
  2. I was at the game. Curt looked very good. The rest of the SS team looked average. Curt was able to slowly move the ball down field. Maryville moved the ball any way they wanted to move the ball. Bottom line is that SS had an average team with a stud QB/Safety. One player is good but not enough. Good luck next year to all.
  3. Maryville has already faced a QB as good as Phillips. His name is Randall Cobb (Alcoa) and he has verbally committed to Kentucky and has been offered by several SEC schools (including UT). He can run the ball with the best of them (very very fast) and has an amazingly strong arm. Maryville was able to contain him even though he had a D1 WR recruit to throw to and an all-state RB to hand off to. No doubt that Phillips is the real deal. I feel that the experience of playing against Cobb should help the Maryville D prepare.
  4. I feel sorry for RB because this game was not close at all. I was surprised because of Maryville's injuries.
  5. What is the injury status of Maryville's two starting corners (Jordan & Clement)? I heard that neither played in the 2nd half last game.
  6. Here is the simple breakdown. WB had bigger and better players. WB had homefield advantage. WB had the good luck orange jerseys. Maryville had numerous players injured. Some of the MHS injured players could not play and some had to play at less than 100%. MHS had more total yds and a much better time of possesion. So how did WB lose? Just because. That's life.
  7. FBE should be ashamed for starting this clasless thread. He makes us Maryville fans look bad.
  8. More bad news for Maryville fans. Tyler Maples (Mr. Football) has a swollen ankle (infection) and will not be 100% for tomorrow's game. There is a chance he won't even play. Thanks
  9. Gaylor (Maryville's D-Coordinator) was not at practice all week with a bad back and had back surgery this morning. He likely won't be at the game tomorrow. That hurts.
  10. How are Maryville and Hillsboro looking injury wise?
  11. During the 1st quarter it was exciting. After that it was back to reality for RB. Sorry but it is the truth. Maybe next year RB?
  12. Mo West is again loaded! And so is Maryville! It will be a great game so long as both teams have a good running and passing game. I have seen Maryville play and I know they are balanced. I have heard the MoWest has a great passing game this year. Should be a great game. Play it up!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. RB has a pretty good defense. Their offense was a bit suspect. Maryville is Maryville. I enjoyed the game.
  14. For Oak Ridge's standards they must be awful this year! To lose to McMinn and William Blount is about as low as a "dominant" 5-A team can get. 5-A in east TN sure is weak this year. I read where Maryville (4-A) walked all over WB. Sounds like Maryville and many of the 4-A teams in their region would have it easier in Oak Ridge's region.
  15. For Oak Ridge's standards they must be awful this year! To lose to McMinn and William Blount is about as low as a "dominant" 5-A team can get. 5-A in east TN sure is weak this year.
  16. How is Shiver? I heard he took a hit and left the game.
  17. Dude, you need to get a clue and get a grip. Bottom line is that it is a rivalry and a traditition. When I said it is a good gate I was talking about how much local interest there is in the game. Not about money. Tradition & rivalry is why they will always play.
  18. You have no clue. McCallie and Fulton would absolutely demolish WB or HHS. Just like Alcoa would demolish WB or HHS. Remember that Heritage barely beat a weak 3A Seymour team. Alcoa got a bad deal when they were dropped. They had to pick up two very good opponents and lost two cross town rival games.
  19. For years and years it has been a tradition for Maryville to play the three teams in their county (William Blount, Heritage, & Alcoa). These kids grow up playing each other in midgets & middle school and all know each other. Even though William Blount and Heritage are usually terrible it is still a big rivalry and an exciting week for both schools. Not to mention a big gate for the host school.
  20. Too bad WBHS and HHS dropped Alcoa. Sounds like this would be the year they really dominate them. NOT!!!!
  21. When I saw how many players Alcoa had I was shocked. It looked like they may have had more than Maryville. This stuff about a poor little 2A school makes me laugh. A poor little 2A school is one that has about 30 players on their roster (and most play both ways) along with about 4 coaches. That was not the case for Alcoa. They had just as many coaches and players. Maryville may have more students at their school but Alcoa gets a way way higher percentage of their students out on the football field. I tip my hat to the coaches for that. Alcoa had as many players and I thought slightly better athletes overall than Maryville (especially with the Maryville suspensions). If I was not from this area and somebody took me to the game I would have assumed that both teams were 5A. Anyway it was a great game and is a great rivalry that has nothing to do with 2A, 4A, region championships, state titles, etc. Just bragging rights.
  22. Booker (sophomore) will be the replacement at OLB. He is inexperienced but so were the other two OLBs who got suspended.
  23. Who will be starting at OLB in place of Rodriguez and Carpenter?
  24. Two of the other three are co-starters at OLB. So now Maryville will have a 3rd teamer at OLB. Pretty tall task against Shiverdecker and Co. Also, one of the OLB's was a valued backup at RB. So now Maryville will have a sophomore at RB who weighs about 150 lbs.
