  1. Yes Hamilton won by about 20, They were supposed to. Yes Greeneville played very good basketball toe to toe with them for a half. Got down 10 early and when you are playing Goliath could have folded up and conceded then but they didn't they fought and battled back and finished the half down a point. As some people had stated the depth of Hamilton wore on Greeneville and they had too many horses in the second half down the stretch. I dont know Barb but I really believe that some people who dont know a lot about them does have some respect for Greeneville after the showing last night. I think the boys accomplished a lot and had a fantastic season, keep those heads up guys you sure made the people who follow and support Greene Devil Basketball proud of you. Seniors we will miss you next season good luck in your future goals.
  2. Good Luck Cosby! Hope you guys can bring home the Gold! Shoot the lights out!
  3. Too late, Coach Duncan tried to talk the boys out of going and just stay here and go to class but for some reason he could not get them to do that. They wanted to go down there and just see how awesome this team is that they are playing. And from what I understand Greeneville might even get to scrimmage Hamilton while they are down there. LOL They left today so I suppose they have ignored all the talk of not having a snowballs chance. I hope they have fun and play a good game.
  4. I agree that it will take a supreme effort for Greeneville to win this game. I do feel that they play great defense and take care of the ball very well. However from all you hear about Hamilton they will throw guys out there that are very tall, quick and athletic. I dont think that Science Hill had the horses that they usually have to press hard most of the game, (this year unlike the past few years they were not 10 to 12 players deep) however from all accounts Hamilton will throw fresh bodies at Greeneville all night. I hope that Greeneville can withstand it but by the end of the game they might be pretty tired and Hamilton fairly fresh. That would not be good for Greeneville but you never know what might happen. I have no doubt that Coach Duncan will have them ready to play but this by all accounts will be the ultimate challenge. If they are fortunate enough to pull of the big upset would they have anything left in the tanks for the next round? Win or lose the Greeneville boys have done themselves proud this season.
  5. Amen Barb, I agree with you on that!
  6. Wow I was under the impression that East Tennessee schools, Greene County & Greeneville schools should be rooting for each other to win. I really thought it would be kinda cool if South Greene and Greeneville both went to the state tourney. Everyone at Greeneville is surely not rich, there are rich folks at South Greene too. Every school has someone that makes them look bad and wants to run there mouths about things over nothing. I was really wanting South Greene to win in Sub state and against Pigeon Forge, sure I was not at either game because Greeneville was playing but I was for them so before you go knocking everyone at Greeneville you need to learn a few manners and try not to act like such a big shot. South Greene is a fine school and has a top notch athletic program, something they should be proud of just like Greeneville has a top notch program. Your mothers and fathers work together and some of your family might have gone to one school and some to another so just get along and please quit using obscene language on the boards.
  7. Rumour has it that Mooney was hobbled by a sprained ankle. They really did not put a lot of pressure on the lady Devils all night. If Mooney was inured then she still played fairly well to be hurt and I would be impressed. If she was not injured then I sure dont see where all the hype is. (I have not seen her play so I really don't know). Someone earlier said they would take her over a healthy Cait well to that from what I witnessed last night I would say no way. (But there again that is only judging from one performance). I thought both teams played ugly basketball and Hillsboro did not have anyone as their go to girl in clutch situations. Seemed that when Mooney would take the ball to the hole she was pretty darn tough but they (last night) had noone that could shoot the ball. They started fouling with about two minutes to go in the game and in that span they only attempted one three pointer that I can remember. So good news is that Greeneville did not really play very well but came away with a big win at the state tournament. Good luck Lady Devils, got to bring that A game tonight because Shelbyville will be tough to beat.
  8. I dont think it is taken too seriously, it is just that we hear that all the time from everyone we play and it really gets old. Parents move their children here to Greeneville and they move them away too. Murner came here last year and was an awesome athlete of course we recruited him even though his fathers brother lived here and he came up with a business opportunity. Well the business did not go the way it should have and guess what, they moved back to Florida. Did we hate to lose him sure but we did. However people never talk about the ones you lose just the ones you get. It just gets a little old. Other schools get new kids and people transfer in but nothing is said about them. South Greene got a football player from Kingsport that really helped their program this year but they have not had to defend that. I hope your visit to Greeneville is a good one because most of the people that are here pretty much like it here.
  9. First off I think that Hamilton will be a whole lot more athletic and physical than Powell was. No doubt that Greeneville will play with everything they have and as they have all year make Greeneville fans proud. If Greeneville shoots well they may have a shot at this. I am sure Coach Duncan will have them ready and will have seen just a clip or two (ha ha) of film on Hamilton. Lets see if those backwoods boys can pull one out in the Boro.
  10. Lets see Hamilton is...........a team from Memphis........#1 in the state...........#6 in the NATION.........34-0..........and from all understanding very athletic and very good.......three D1 signees. Lets see Greeneville........small town team.........in and out of top ten in the state this season..............in the NATION................28-7.........and from what I know of them fairly athletic and pretty good..........no D1 signees.....YET. Remind you of anything??? Hoosiers....N.C. State with Jim Valvano......Villanova with Rollie Massimono (sp)......UNC against Duke on senior night at Cameron? You never know what might happen. If Greeneville comes out and believes they can and they shoot the ball very well and take care of the ball limiting turnovers they can pull the major upset..................Yes Brainard some years back had a couple of D1 signees and Greeneville pulled that upset. If Hamilton takes care of Greeneville, they are supposed to. However even if that happens Greeneville with all 850 students have made it to the final 8 in the state. Just think how many other teams would love to be there.........Great job guys.
  11. I felt that Powell had some athletes. The way Greeneville came out shooting the ball they looked like a deer in the headlights. It just seemed that they were not ready for what happened. Of course when a team does shoot that well it really sometimes gets in the other teams head a little. Greeneville got off to such a fast start that Powell just did not have anything for them tonight. Too many turnovers which some of were really unforced. #33 is a really good player and #52 the point guard was pretty decent. Lee Smith is big and can run but Wiggins took him away from the basket early and when the shot is falling it is tough for a big man to guard him. Good luck to the Greene Devils. Moore and Anderson had another fine outing this evening as well.
  12. Donahue has worked very hard becoming a good basketball player. He has really come along the last couple of years. And my thinking is that if he plays for Walters State.........then at least he is playing something he loves and has that opportunity to continue. Personally I don't think South Greene can hang with Alcoa and that is just myopinion but I really know nothing about Alcoa except they beat Austin East and I know they have some athletes. Good luck tonight South Greene give it all you got and leave it on the court. Upsets happen you know?
  13. Powell will probably be the biggest team that Greeneville has faced. If Greeneville shoots well I feel that they will beat Powell however if we struggle as we have in some past games it will be much more difficult. Rebounding will be tough against Powell. The way I see it both teams must be playing pretty good ball right now or they would not be here. I agree with Barb I would rather be playing Powell at home as Bearden in Knoxville as well, that does not mean we are gonna win but I like our chances better. Either way looking down the road a very tough task awaits the winner of this one. 33-0 #6 in the nation now thats impressive. Have a safe trip tonight Powell and good luck Greene Devils.
  14. What kind of statement is that? The gym may be at an Elementary School but it is anything but Mickey Mouse.
  15. Good luck tonight Rebels, go get a birth at state. I do not know much about Alcoa's team but can South Greene stop Branden Warren with his size and physical ability. I hope South Greene is not in awe of them and go play their game.
  16. I thought the Greeneville/Science Hill game was good last night, I also thought the Sullivan Central/DB game was pretty awesome. Actually in boys play I have watched all the games and have not seen a bad game yet. Sure Central beat Jeff County by a pretty big margin but the final was not really how it was played. East gave Science Hill a bit of a scare and played well. The DB/West game was really good too. The only game that wasn't very exciting was the Greeneville/South game. I look for tonight to be pretty good too. In my opinion a lot depends on the outside shooting of Greeneville. I assume Moore will be guarding sensabaugh and anderson will guard throp, I dont know who DB is gonna D up on Wiggins with but Morgan will come up with something I am sure. DB may be a suprise to some but it does not matter at this time of year, both these team have had good years and after tonight I hope they can both keep it going.
  17. I got to say that I have been very impressed with some of the basketball games that have been played in this tourney. Sullivan Central and DB was fantastic, the crowd was huge and very loud. Amazing to me that the two guys who had 29 and 24 points in their first game were held to 3 and 3 (I think) last night. Weatherford had a terrible shooting night but their inside game took up the slack. It was a great atmosphere for a basketball game. In the Greeneville/Science Hill matchup the crowd was into it as well and not dissappointed because it was a fantastic game too. Crowder was not a factor like he was in the first meeting between the two. Wattad had 27 I believe and played well, Forney as in the previous meeting did not play really great. As for Greeneville Wiggins, Moore, & Anderson really played good. Boone has been in a shooting slump and did not break out of that last night either. They have had a great season and making it through Knoxville will be tough but it can happen. I know Science Hill has been playing a few freshman, one started last night , so they have things to look forward to with them, not to mention another year with Omar. None of the teams that have played in this region tourney have anything to hang their heads about. I know they work hard and it is tough to lose that last game with all the hard work they put into it . Thanks to the teams for coming to this tourney and putting on a great show for all the fans.
  18. Congrats to Morristown West, they started slowly but when their girls started hitting a few three's they really got hot. Greeneville shot the ball absolutely horribly and really just did not play very well tonight. The officials let the girls play football tonight. Two fouls called in the entire first half. Good luck to both teams in Sub-state would be pretty cool if they got to play once more this season wouldnt it?
  19. Sounds like a winner to me, heck we might even get one from Arkansas next season.
  20. I think Greeneville can win this game but it will be difficult if Jimmy Boone does not find his shooting touch. We really need him to start shooting the ball like he did at the first of the season thru the middle of the season. I think it will be a good ballgame just like the two games were tonight.
  21. However it is not only a city vs. county thing. How many times have you watched the South Greene girls play in a tournament where the Chuckey Doak and West Greene people have rooted against them???? Maybe not as much now that they have not been a dominant force the last couple of years but when Larry Neil was there it happened every where they went. Personally I have never understood it. Yeah when they play each other they root for their teams but when say South Greene plays Happy Valley and Greeneville/Greene County people are rooting against South Greene. Does not make any sense. And I for one will say that Barb, it seems from her posts is loyal to Greeneville first and then the Greene County schools. She seems to stay level headed about things and I appreciate her posts.
  22. If you will notice most of the posts that the Commexx dude is the only one that crows about anything. I mean it has been an embaressment to read some of his posts. I know he has said a lot of things to some people on here but not all the Greeneville people are like that. Anyway I really thought that South Greene would have trouble beating Unicoi County in this region because it seems like they just know how to handle them. (Unicoi is a good team but they just seem to know how to shut down Donahue, which most teams can not do). But since Unicoi lost it really opened the door for South Greene, I hope the young men take full advantage of the opportunity and bring home the regional championship. Good Luck guys. And this is from a Greeneville fan who would love to see South Greene boys make it to the state tourney. I can remember a day when the fans would leave at halftime of the boys games because the girls were done and that is what they came to see. P.S. If the Greeneville boys lose and do not make it to sub-state I will be watching South Greene and cheering for them come Monday night.
  23. Are they in the district with DB this season? I am hearing that they are going to be really good.
  24. I dont know much about this topic of coaching at South since I only saw them play one game and that was yesterday against Greeneville. However I did hear several South people talking about the coach would be a good freshman or JV coach but he did not have what it takes to be the varsitycoach. Like I said I just heard that last night from some of those around me and it sounds as though Volman may not be the only one thinking that. That being said I just wonder what kind of season a team like Greeneville would have had in the Big 9. I know they are pretty good but it would be hard to have to get up and play well night in and night out. I know they had a few weaker teams but as for the big 4 that placed in the district.....it would be tough to play Science Hill on Tuesday then play Central on Friday and then play DB on the next Tuesday. I heard from some Science Hill people that the DB freshman team was very good any thought on that? just curious since we didn't play them.
  25. I really dont understand the home cooking comment either since District 2 is not even close to Knoxville. In the last game (DB/ Morr. West) last night a few of us were talking that if the players had been calling their own fouls there would have been more called than the officials called. It was rough from beginning to end. I dont really think either team had an advantage but it was just very physical.
