  1. I guarantee there isn't a coach in the midstate that wouldn't at least give the girl a chance. She is too talented and every coach has just enough of an ego to think he/she could handle the issues. I will say that if Coach Spann had issues, that raises some big red flags.
  2. Keirra Downey at Ravenwood will be very good.
  3. Any idea when the rosters for the East-West All Star game will be announced?
  4. I don't think it is necessarily fair to lump all schools with transfers in together. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to transfer, and if someone wants to pack up and move because they want their daughter to play for a certain program, that's OK. Brentwood gets a good transfer once a year, but I have never heard anyone accuse them of breaking the rules. My issue comes more when kids are actively sought out by schools either through a "booster" or through the high school coach working the summer basketball scene and/or personal trainer scene. There are plenty of coaches that take advantage of that. Another problem I have is in certain larger communities where kids can pick their school. For years in Metro, Hillsboro was open zoned while other schools weren't. This created an unfair advantage and some really great football teams and a state championship in girls basketball. This has always been an issue and always will be. I don't even get upset any more.
  5. The twins from Mt. Juliet transferred from Cane Ridge after their freshman year.
  6. It's official. Steve Williams is the new head coach at Overton.
  7. I think it would be accurate to say he is not paid by his players to play at LCS. They pay tuition (or get scholarships) like others students. Now, and this is purely speculation, I think he gets paid by the school, but also gets paid for all of his training of players in the area, coaching AAU, and I think he runs a recruiting service to help kids get place on college teams. He is not alone in this. There are several coaches throughout the state that supplement their income through travel ball and training. The difference is most of them coach at TSSAA schools which puts restrictions on training and recruiting.
  8. Lancaster is a very good team that is well coached. The reason many TSSAA teams will not play them is because they play by different rules than TSSAA. If a kid transfers to Lancaster, they are eligible immediately. It is possible for a team to play Lancaster on Monday, and then transfer to Lancaster and then play for them on Tuesday. That is a scary thought for many coaches that are trying to build a program with players over a four year period. It's the same reason the Lighthouse Christian boys team has a hard time finding games.
  9. Science Hill and either Farragut, Maryville, or Morristown West Blackman and either Riverdale or Columbia Mt. Juliet and either Brentwood, Dickson County, or Overton Ridgeway and White Station or Dyer County
  10. By "from", do you mean are currently playing in Rutherford County? Or were born and raised in Rutherford County:). I kid, I kid...
  11. Let the complaining begin... http://kyprephoops.com/1314/2014JanTNGirls.html
  12. I think you meant that 10AAA won't win a game besides Rossview. Regardless, Mt. Juliet appears to be the class of Region 5. It looks like it's Mt. Juliet and then a group of a couple possible teams that could make the sectional. (Rossview, Hendersonville, Wilson Central being the most likely, but maybe Beech or Galatin)
  13. Mt. Juliet appears to be the best. I would put Hendersonville, then Beech, then Wilson Central.
  14. Don't know if I should post, but I will. I don't have any inside information, but I would guess that a lot of people both on the staff and outside of the system will apply. Overton is a great place for teaching and coaching, but the student body is unlike any other school in the state (and maybe in the country). Two-thirds of the student population goes home to a family that doesn't primarily speak English. That fact alone will scare a lot of coaches away and it says something about the amazing job this staff has done over the last few years. My guess is they will hire from within, but I do think that the powers that be will be patient and diligent through the process. And, I have faith they will hire someone that is best for the school.
  15. I hope they continue to enforce the rules as the season progress. Teams that grab and hand check have really hurt the game. Coaches and players better adapt quickly.
  16. Any results from any of the other gyms?
  17. The three best teams in the state very well be in the same district. (Oakland, Blackman, and Riverdale) Whichever two get out of the district have a great chance to win state, but one of them will probably have to play Bradley Central in the substate, and Bradley may be the 4th best team in the state.
  18. What makes Overton's continued success really remarkable is that it has the largest ESL population in the state. Two thirds of the kids that attend Overton go home to a family that doesn't primarily speak English. That means of that they are competing with essentially 500-600 kids that traditionally play football. (And you can cut that in half because only males play football:) I know that Can Ridge, Antioch, and Glencliff all deal with the same issue, but to a lesser extent.
  19. Let the complaining begin... Obviously, there are several girls left off the list. There are others that have changed schools (most notably Paris Lawson was at Lancaster Christian this summer). And, there are others that are too high or too low. (Jemesha Jackson and Chassity Carter are both WAY too low if you ask me.) That being said, it's an interesting list. The only three Nashville girls I see that probably should be listed are D'toria Fowler from Antioch, Ant'Tresia Patton from Overton, and Nechelle Turner from Hunters Lane. There was also the freshman point guard from Goodpasture, but I believe she transferred to Hendersonville (I think).
  20. Every AAA school in Williamson County will have a new coach this season except for Brentwood and Franklin (and she was new this year). Centennial Independence Ravenwood Summit I am sure a couple of these have been filled. Anyone know who is coaching where?
  21. Riverdale, Memphis Central, Science Hill, and Memphis Overton Riverdale beats Science Hill for state title. I think that Riverdale and Brentwood will be closer than people think, but Riverdale will have too much firepower in the end. I think that Bradley may beat Science Hill and the winner of that game will make the finals.
  22. Science Hill Farrugut Blackman (Could be Bradley or Oakland) Riverdale Antioch Hillsboro (Picking the Metro upsets here, but it isn't out of the realm of possiblity. Mt. Juliet, Rossview, Beech are possibilities) Memphis Central Ridgeway It will be a shocker if Riverdale doesn't win it all
  23. And the baseball game ended how...? Seriously, it will be difficult for Overton to win this one, but if they can hang in there for a while, they have a solid enough running game to pull it out.
  24. I don't know. I really felt like she did a pretty good job.
