  1. Though Bradley's starters sat the second half - their press netted them 22 steals and forced 35 Howard turnovers. Bradley attempted 18 3-pointers.
  2. Science Hill is the only decent team to come out of Region 1, but like all Region 1 teams they'll lose to Maryville.
  3. Sequatchie isn't on the same level as Sweetwater, but if Central plays on the same level offensively like they did last Friday they have a chance if Sweetwater isn't firing on all cylinders. Those are a lot of "ifs".
  4. Turnabout is fair play. McMinn traveled to Powell last year in the 2nd round and got hammered. FYI: McMinn's radio announcer is a Powell grad.
  5. They built an ENORMOUS tissue plant next to the mill, and now only make toilet paper, paper towels, etc. The stink came from the process required to make newspaper.
  6. Neither. Bowater sold out to Resolute several years ago, and they shut down the majority of operations a year ago.
  7. Coach Cummings is fibbing a wee bit about McMinn's linemen being big. The defensive linemen are actually undersized. Teams appear to be similar in the common opponents they've played: McMinn beat Rhea 43-14. OR beat Rhea 36-17. McMinn beat Campbell 39-7. OR beat Campbell 41-6. OR has played a tougher schedule than McMinn, and may be more battle tested.
  8. Congratulations to the coaching staff and players at Central for going on the road and winning this playoff game. I felt all along that Central was capable of winning if they played better defense, got their offense rolling to their capability, and reduced the turnovers and ill-timed penalties. They accomplished these goals enough to get to play another playoff game with a familiar opponent much closer to home.
  9. I did a little research on your '95 team, and you all had to be loaded with that years' TSSAA Back of the Year and Lineman of the year. I found where that back has since passed away. I didn't know '95 was the year Meigs made it to the state championship game... beating a very strong Westmoreland (21-14) in the quarterfinals and Alcoa in the semifinals before losing to Goodpasture in the championship game. Meigs scored 63 points on Alcoa in that game - the most ever scored on Alcoa. My, how times have changed for Alcoa!!! I love small town football, and the community pride of places like Westmoreland and Decatur. By the way, found this old post from here on CoachT that you should enjoy, since you're mentioned. Your son will be proud to read it:
  10. I think it was the school board that ordered the game to be reinstated, after they didn't play it for a few years. It's always a big gate for the hosting team. Being two classifications different isn't all that unique for teams to play. The larger classification school should win most times - and in this case McMinn does. Since I've lived down this way I remember Central winning in 2014 and prior to that I think in '89. If Central's coach and AD doesn't have a problem with playing it, let them play.
  11. With two Southern tradition first names I had to check you out on facebook. Do you have brothers named Billy Joe and Jim Bob? (just kidding) You have a good looking family. Your son (#64) is a hoss for sure. Is the cute little girl yours? She's a doll. Looks like you outkicked your coverage with you wife - just like Dadof2 and I did. I saw some pictures you had of the stadium, but couldn't tell if the home side is the one with the press box. Didn't look like much seating on that side. I looked up the school location on mapquest - is the football field closer to the Middle School. And yes to your previous comment, Meigs' coaches were very impressed with Westmoreland watching them on film.
  12. Bus? Great gameplan! I dined at Top Hog a few years ago, and it was awesome.
  13. I heard he was a load. Could be a high scoring game. I'm thinking about going to see it since it's so close and because I know a few WV players and their families.
  14. Don't let Dadof2 fool you, he knows Meigs' gameplan to a tee.
  15. A couple Meigs's coaches said they were very impressed with Westmoreland.
  16. They don't have a chance, but.... GO Cosby Eagles!!!!!
  17. Though I don't think Sequatchie is all that great, Central will need to defend better against the run if they want to win and advance. Their offense has shown signs of being good at times, but they seem to self-destruct with penalties or turnovers. Great group of talented Seniors like they may not see again for a while.
  18. No other SEC team offered Patrick Willis because he was underweight and was a project. Chavis talked Cutcliffe at Ole Miss into giving him a chance, and it ended up working out well for them. Randall Cobb wanted to be a college QB. Fulmer offered him a scholarship at wide receiver but told him he wasn't SEC caliber QB material. Kentucky mislead Cobb so Cobb committed to them. Cobb ended up as a wide receiver, just as UT coaches told him was his natural position. Patrick Turner was going to USC regardless of who offered him. His heart was set on them and only them. There are hits and misses with every program.
  19. I think all 4 home teams win. McMinn will beat Campbell County. Karns defense is terrible, and Walker Valley can burn you if you can't get pressure on their quarterback.
  20. Does Sequatchie have a good running game?
  21. M'town East certainly isn't the same Hurricane football program they fielded in the late 1960's. Running clock starting in the 3rd quarter - which will actually be a blessing to East.
