  1. I totally agree with the majority of these statements. This game is going to be ugly early! Either way im rooting for the Owls to win so they can be undefeated when they come to Athens October 30th... GO TRIBE!!!
  2. Hahaha stop bickering you two!... In any rate it doesnt matter how loud the fans on either side are Mcminn is much more talented that Rhea Co. and that will show on friday night...GO TRIBE!!!
  3. Ok so i hope that this is a coach because that was a long intricate scouting report but with several flaws. First of all the arnwines are cousins not brothers. The offense can be potent at times but thats all based off play calling. Its easy to see that when we are aggressive we can score, but also when we get conservative and erratic play calling it becomes a close game, which is what happened friday night. I agree that the defense has played very sporadic all year but that is do mainly to a whole new defensive coaching staff and the inconsistent starting line ups. This defense has started different linebackers, d-lineman, and defensive backs every single game. I understand players getting hurt, suspensions, and finding new players during the season, but without any continuity at any level of the defense its hard to expect consistency(just a word to mcminn defensive coaches)... Im sorry to say that i have been very busy this week and havent had time to watch any rhea co film so far but at first glance their record is nothing to brag about. I talked to a few coaches that said rhea looks a bit smaller on both offense and defense lines with 4 players being lost to D-1 colleges the past three years. Its very hard to compensate for a lack of team speed without a big line to open up wholes to run the ball and control the clock. Mcminn's extremely difficult out of district schedule this early in the season(going to Maryville and Cookville while hosting private school power McCallie) has prepared them to face anyone. Im going to have to pick the cherokees once again over the eagles.... GO TRIBE!!!
  4. Coaching does seem to be the theme in fridays game and who could argue with that. Quarles will likely go down as Tn's most successful highschool coach with 7 state titles already in his mid forties and looks like he has no sign of settling down. He was just recently selected to coach the U.S. All-American game televised on nationally on CBS. Thus signifing has proven to be one of the best in his field nation wide. And here comes Scott Blade who is one of the hottest coaching commodities in the state after he upset Quarles 74 game win streak in the championship game last december. Apparently it was Quarles who suggested that Blade apply for the Oak Ridge job so the two seem to have a friendly relationship. To be honest right now Oak Ridge has neither the wealth of feeder schools that Maryville has nor the abundance of talent that Hillsboro had when he beat Quarles last year. That being said i believe this will be a very entertaing game but i would be an idiot to think that Blades team could compete with Quarles dynasty at this point. But in two or three years who knows!!!!...... GO TRIBE!!
  5. Yea should be we have every key in place to beat Cookeville. The only thing is keeping our players focused after a big win vs cleveland. If we can do that i dont see any reason not to drive the 2hrs for a possible win...
  6. Those might be the standings today but i would argue with some of that list as far a future playoff implications and state championship chances... Farragut has the most talent and experience out of all the teams. Purty, Browning, and Van Dyne will be playing on saturdays. Ooltewah is very one dimensional on offense and thats going to lead to problems in the playoffs eventhough their defense is very talented with UT signee Jacques Mclendon leading the bunch. Bearden is also very talented with all star Devin Young running the ball i just feel that somewhere down the road that injury to the Tull kid is going to prove very costly. Oakland is also kinda vanilla on offense but their talent and coaching is a big plus in addition to them being the defending state champs. Also i would be hard pressed to find a team that would want to play Maryville any place any time. I understand they lost to Alcoa for the first time in a million years and whatnot but that was a rivalry game, Maryville led most of it until the 4th quarter, and Alcoa could beat any team in 6A with their balance on offense with the Toney kid and Head coaching experience from Gary Rankin who left a powerhouse in Riverdale to come coach at Alcoa. I am not very familiar with the teams from middle Tn so i cannot comment much on them but i am predicting that the Winner from 6A will come from east tennessee.I cant wait to hear the rebuttals... GO TRIBE!
  7. The win was far from ugly this was actually the best execution the offense had done all season even before the ejections... Also only one player from Mcminn was ejected even tho several were fighting. I believe it was harris because he wasnt even on the sideline during the second half after starting the first. He is the ONLY one from mcminn... 95% of clevelands offense was taken away from them after parks and davis were ejected and that is the reason we won. Parks runs were amazing as he made mcminn defenders look like they were wearing cement cleats. He was unstoppable in the first half and davis caught enough passes to keep mcminn honest. Once those players were ejected the clev coaching staff was forced to impliment trick plays to put points on the board.... Simply put we won because of default but even without that our offense played the best it had all season. I dont kno if we would have won without the ejections but we did win... GO TRIBE!
  8. Haha ok Cherokee fan you got me there. I completely disagree with what he said!!! I meant to say i can see why a person unfamiliar with the program would think mondays practice was too easy. And its statements like that, that let me know people have not been around any type of successful football. Even pro and college teams generally dont do contact work during the season.... Also the reference to Mullinax is that for over 20+ yrs Mcminn has never had hard practices on Mondays so why do it now. U dont win games by "killing" kids on the practice field. You win them by reviewing film and teaching them how to correct mistakes and do better in the future.... And your right Mcminn does have plenty of talent but 2/3 of the athletes you just mentioned are hurt, sick, or coming off injuries! Thus my point is proved that its best to let your Better athletes heal up and prepare during a game week rather than run them to death over a non-district game loss to the best program in the state. Even a blind man could see that!!!
  9. Walmart dont get me wrong i totally agree with what your saying but the flu is spreading through mcminn like wild fire. At least 10-15 players from both mcminn and centrals teams have missed practice and games because of it. Also Mcminn has NEVER had a long practice on mondays. Even going back to the days of Mullinax they didnt so a loss be it small or large is not going to change that. A childs, and these kids are children(18 and under), health is MORE IMPORTANT than any football game. That being said mcminn practiced today and i know the game plan for cleveland will be good. Although the parks kid is very fast and shifty he is after all only ONE player it takes a TEAM to win. For example when Bradley beat Cleveland for the first time in 20yrs parks had over 150 all purpose and 2tds and they still lost. Thats why im picking the Cherokees to hold serve in the district and win. Cherokees 28 Cleveland 24
  10. After watching this game in person there are 2 things that jump out at me. #1 is EXECUTION. Maryville is brilliant at executing plays regardless of the situation. Those kids dont flinch in adversity, never hold their heads down, and even after making great plays show class with little to no celebration. The quarterback's accuracy was immaculate, the running back ran hard on limited carries, special teams were excellent and scored on a punt return(which in my opinion was the back breaker) and the defense was tenacious. #2 is COACHING. I tell you what, in all my years of wathching football this might be the best coached individuals i have seen. The players maximize their talent. You can tell these guys have been brought up through feeder programs their whole carreers and it shows! This might have been the first time i have watched a game and not seen one player out of postion. My hats go off to Quarles and his coaching staff their program is darn impressive!! Also as a side note i can not say that my Cherokees were all bad... Lb harris had two good hits early in the game that kept team morale up. Mcdermott had a long run and a touchdown. Smith caught a good number of passes albeit short ones. Ables decison making is improving even as the offensive line continues to struggle... I think as long as the Tribe continues to work they will be ok. A source close to the team told me that the majority of the team didnt think they had a shot to win last week and that attitude should change with rival Cleveland coming to town on friday.
  11. To put this game in reality, THIS year Bearden beat Walker Valley 44-0 and Rhea Co. lost 28-20 this past week for WV FIRST win of the season. After only having limited film on both teams, this is my conclusion: Devrin Young(4.3 forty) + Strong defense-Rhea Co.= Beaden 33 Rhea Co 10. That's as simple as i can put it without being downright insulting to Rhea co fans.
  12. Thanks Govman, and yes i am anticipating that this will be an extremely entertaining game. Both teams have good history(Great in Maryville's case), loyal fans, and a strong desire to win. After getting more film on Maryville i am starting to get more confident that the Tribe could sneak out of Blount Co with another win. I remember playing in that game vs WB years ago when we upset them at home with Trace and contrary to popular belief Tevin(Mcdermott) is actually more naturally talented. I have seen this kid literally jog in games and score 60+ yard touchdowns vs the likes of Ooltewah, cleveland, and other region 6A foes. Also to be honest, talent wise this might be one of Maryville's first years they dont have at least one kid you can point to and say "he's college bound." Because of this, and the likes of the deepest senior class Mcminn has had in recent years(26) i am looking at a push. I really do not know who will win this game, but i do know that it should be a darn good one! New prediction: Maryville 20?? Mcminn 20??? push+
  13. Ok ill help you out with a brief scouting report: defense is 4-3 and will blitz according to offensive weakesses. Return a key piece of the defense with senior lb kris harris returning this week. Offense is spead to pass but often times qb will run. Qb cy ables( 6'5 200) has two big targets in mcdermott and smith both around 6'1 190lbs. Overall this is a verteran laden team with 26 seniors and over 16 returning starters. They should not be phased by playing at Maryville because this same team played #1 Dobbyns Bennette in the playoffs last year and won. If mcminn plays to stop the pass and sustains the run the offense should be able to put up points against a vunerable maryville secondary. However Maryville coach George Quarles is an amazing motivator and its hard for me to see them losing at home this season.... Maryville 24 Mcminn 20
  14. Ok so i definitely do not agree with you that there is still the same talent in BC. Heart and willingness do play a part but when your talented whether you try hard or not your usually better than the mediocre guys to the right and left of you. Talent has nothing to do with winning but everything to do with God Given ability. You cant teach someone to jump 36+ inches, run a sub 4.5 forty, or throw 60+ yards, each things that you could see on a weekly basis previously on any given friday in BC just ask the college scouts from around the area.
  15. Ok so normally i wouldnt do this but i HAVE to. This game is a joke and so was last weeks game vs. Tyner! I know that coach Monroe wanted to prepare Ooltewah for 6a by playing teams from the inner city with speed but it obvious the Owls have just as much speed with the offensive and defensive lines to match. Not to mention the state's Number one college prospect in Jacques Smith. I hate to be the bearer of badnews but i feel sorry for anybody playing this Owls team this year. Baring an unforseen coaching mishap by coach Monroe(who has a stadium named after him just 10miles south) I dont see the Owls losing a game this year..... Ooltewah 38 Austin-East 6
  16. From watching both teams and talking to coaches around the southeast it would not be a surprise if Central won this game. They are as talented this year as any other and Cleveland seems to be in a year of transition with its new coach. Also the talent in Bradley county seems to be low as well with Walker Valley losing 44-0 and Bradley losing to Polk CO. I think that clevland has athletes like Davis and Parks but so does Central with Moss and Rayl. If Central can keep it close by running the ball with Walker, playing defense with ragland stiles and king, and throwing vertical to Moss to stretch the defense they will be in fantastic shape. However they do seem to have a problem with cramps, fatigue, injuries, and depth. My final analysis......... Athletes- Cleveland Defense- Central Coaches- Central Desire to win- Cleveland Homefield- Central Winner- Central 13-10 in a close one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Listen here guys as a former player and person close to the program i have no doubt that Mcminn can match up athletically with anyone in the State regardless of classification. The spread is the CORRECT offense for their talents because they lack a feature back for the power I or wing formations and until this year for the previous 4-5yrs offense line size and depth was a HUGE issue. Mcdermott, Smith, Massingale, and Mcbee are gifted recievers and could help out Ables tremendously but for some reasons the coaches just dont seem to want to put these amazing athletes on the field together. The defense looked awfully darn impressive against Central even without starting middle linebacker Harris and corner/reciever Mcbee out for injury and suspension. Coach Bennette has them playing well but its easy to tell that they are inexperienced in the secondary and linebacker positions. Again this solution could be easily fixed if they allowed Mcdermott and Smith to play together at safety but often times Smith is out for some sophmore player who got burned for a touchdown and ran over a couple times. I know Bo hates playing kids both ways but throwing a player in the fire who is not ready could prove costly in the weeks to come. I know from speaking to coaches around Hamilton Co that McCallie is well disciplined and has a very athletic quarterback that loves to run. And i firmly believe they have a great team like the ones I used to scrimmage against back in my playing days. However, I believe that if Mcminn gets the ball into the hands of its playmakers(ables, mcdermott, smith, mcbee, henry) that they will be just fine and remain undefeated at home!!!.... Although is Bo decides to call the same agressive game plan that had the Tribe backed up in their own territory all of last week it will be a LONG day in Athens.
