  1. May hurt some McKenzie feelings with this, but oh well... McKenzie wasn't the best 1A football team from the west talentwise. From the start of the season with a thumping of Huntingdon, to making the championship game by "upsetting the favorites", then losing to a very stout South Pittsburg team by one score, I'd say that this year's coaching job by Comer was better than winning it all last year with a team full of kids who were there the year before and picked by most to be back and win it. The old quandary applies here..."did the coach get out coached and lose, or did he do a great job to get his team there to begin with?" I'm going to say that my vote is for the latter.
  2. The Reb's probably don't think so right now, but they had a great season. Graduate all that talent, then battle through the playoffs to get back to the big game and represent well against as dominant a team as South Pittsburg has been all season...great job! Congrats to the Pirates! went at it all season with one goal and got it done!
  3. Reb's been behind the 8 ball before and got it done... may be a tall task, but don't count 'em out just yet.
  4. I'm sorry, but I agree with him...I'd rather make the drive and enjoy the atmosphere than be close and it suck.
  5. The field was terrible at Murfreesboro, but not why I didn't like it being there. The atmosphere generated by those in charge there was terrible...I got the feeling that it was a monumental headache for them and they'd rather not have hosted the games. It really should be celebrated for every team to get there, not that it was an obligation that they'd rather not have.
  6. Ditto General...I wouldn't put a years' worth of work on one play unless I felt that I was lucky to be even. Doubt if the Pirates feel lucky to be there.
  7. Same here...300 miles to the west. EDIT Just pulled up radar, and it shows clear in both places...may be that way for the rest of the day.
  8. You may need to use them flags to keep that Stone man's balls dry ST... I tried to get that piratepete man to volunteer to do it last night, but he wouldn't. You think im joking, but im not.
  9. If they have a weakness (not weak, just not as tight as everything else) in would be that the secondary is suspect for short passes to the middle of the field. Their DB's give a sizeable cushion on the LOS, especially the slot...problem for opponents is that they generally don't give the QB much time to check for open receivers, their DB's are ball hawks, and they'll pop you when you catch it. I'm guessing that it's a conscious decision to prevent receivers from getting behind the coverage...6-12 yard passes won't kill you like an occasional 60 yard catch and run. Huntingdon had some success throwing those routes, but couldn't sustain drives (or wouldn't commit) more than 30 yards with it.
  10. Not a more true statement on these boards. "Great coach" usually means that one possesses the ability to teach kids the mental process of preparing to run a play and the proper technique to execute his duties on the play, along with motivating the player to give maximum effort. Head coach's duties encompass everything from roster, travel, uniforms, overseeing funds, officials, scheduling, transportation, assistants, field maintenance, ect, ect, ect... and last but not least, balancing discipline, parents, and administration to maintain a positive attitude. All that, and then coaching the coaches and players on strategy for particular opponents leading up to game day. It takes a special personality to juggle all the responsibilities of the administrative side, while maintaining focus on the performance of the team. If you don't believe that being a head coach is a "strain", maybe you're cut out to be an air traffic controller...or maybe you just haven't considered all the duties that must be attended to and to what degree that you do it well.
  11. Your full of mess if you think im falling for this Roy said mess. I guarantee that Tower man, that Towner man, and the rest of the people from South Pitt will be real mad if you say that you saw Roy at ronnies red eye or foodland and talked to him. Even them jailhouse fellers and them out in the firey gizzard no better than that. The weather man said it would rain tomorrow, so if you want to help the Pirates you need to see if that Stone man will let you try to keep his balls from being wet and cold if you can or PowerP and Pegleg need to drop you out of that airplane on your head, and you no i ain't joking neither.
  12. piratepete, meet TheCountian...TheCountian, meet piratepete. Looks like you two have a lot in common, so imma' just ease away and let the two of you get aquainted.
  13. Concentrate real hard and read this slowly. I'm not from South Pittsburg. I hope that McKenzie wins because I know (and respect) some of the folks there but won't cry about it if they lose...not a huge thing for me either way. It's TSSAA's responsibility to address cheating, not mine and not yours. If you got that (doubtful), here's something else... if you wish to be credible, say it once or twice...if stupid troll is the look you're after, carry on!
  14. Here's something that I have recently come to know...that you're the equivalent of that crazy ex girlfriend that you really don't understand what you did to set her off. Jealousy and envy are common emotions that most people easily control...maybe you should get some help?
  15. I get the sentiment, but you have to remember that it's voluntary, and my information was that no one connected directly to the school system nor team started the account, so it isn't begging. It's obvious that people want to help out, so just enjoy the benefits of their generosity, and as an old coach with ties to both Scotts Hill and Riverside used to say "don't knock someone out of their blessing" if they want to feel like they've helped the kids in some way. Enjoy the ride Riverside...you've worked for it, now go get it!
  16. Thanks for the recap, but didn't have anything to do with what I said. Quarles chose to be done... his career was longer, more accomplished than Creasy's, and he'd done pretty much everything you could do at this level so I'm pretty sure that he doesn't regret his choice looking back. Creasy is on track to accomplish something similar to what Maryville and Alcoa have done, but is a long way away (if something like that is what drives him) from being in that class yet. I'm just saying that seeing GQ fired could remind him that there is a potential downside unless he's accomplished everything he desires at this level to the point if wherever he went didn't work out, he would be satisfied with the choice.
  17. You think maybe he's sort of aware of Quarles' situation? Not my business to decide what Creasy is happy with...if he's got lofty dreams of big money and celebrity status, you have to take risks to get there. If he's happy with a great living and a current strangle hold on HS football in Tn., he'd be crazy to walk away from the situation that he has on lockdown.
  18. Nice post...can't win 'em all, but you can always be a winner! You have every right to be proud of yours and his team... lose with pride and win with humility.
  19. Hometown, I don't know School- If memory doesn't fail me Richland. Winless there two seasons prior (again, off memory).
  20. I can't help but remember all the giggles and ribbing from a LOT of folks on here when Frost was announced as HC at Riverside...wonder if they've changed their minds?
  21. LOL, we must have been sitting pretty close together at H'town Waker...I had a ringside seat for that carry! Been watching #25 for three years run over us and vs. several others, but was still amazed at that one. For all you not there, it actually happened...half the Mustang team had hands on him & he kept going like the Energizer Bunny.
  22. If you don't understand...you just don't get it, and probably won't. Groves may be a better prospect. He may grade out as a power five recruit with 5 stars. Nick Saban and Kirby Smart may park a travel trailer in his yard and bring the family breakfast every morning. What Thomas does is get yards and win games. You need two yards, give him the ball and you get two and a half. You need to run clock and preserve a lead, you give him the ball 10 plays in a row and he'll take six minutes off the clock and score for you. Yank his facemask, take a swing, or go at his knees, and he'll get up and walk back to the huddle. With Riverside's style of play, he's as good as you could build in a lab to fit the position.
  23. Connor Stalions and Jim Harbaugh??? I hear that they've got some free time on their hands, so maybe Greeneville offered them a hotdog & popcorn to do a little "scouting"?
