  1. This guy's too humble to toot his own horn but, he hasn't missed a prediction all year. I'm agreeing with this one. Marion will be fast enough this week. Glad MC doesn't have a bye week.
  2. I agree that predictable offense post don't hold water. Didn't Union something or Wayne something beat SP a few years back by being "predictable"? I'd kept serving Zeman left / right all night long as long as the score was kept close. Game just seemed to have turned quickly after the second half roughing call. IF Boyd is really the second round game I see MC riding that predictable offense into the third round at least. I don't expect to see MC repeat those errors made against SP. It's playoff time and the team discipline will be there for MC from here on out. Good luck to the Warriors and JDG.
  3. Agree with that first statement. Nohope was very busy all last week but did get by to witness the latest MC loss. The Warriors actually did a better job than I expected after watching SP against Polk the previous week. Take away that fatal first half fumble and that "I can't believe they did that" roughing the punter second half penalty and the game would have been a nail biter IMO. Warrior defensive backs (24 excluded) are just going to have to learn to tackle. 24 sticks and wraps up; others must learn to play like that to reach real contender level of effort. SP backs exploited that weakness and turned the game. Pirate defensive effort was altogether better than MC effort. MC wins easily this week, then road will continue to get tougher. MC offense will continue to score but that defense just has to understand Marion's continued success rides largely on their effort each game.
  4. Gotta admire Glenn for his directness. Now, if Roy would just chime in and add his "nock a hole" insight the game analysis would be complete. Whichever team nocks the most holes and runs fastest throught them wins. Simple. Close, high scoring game, Marion wins. Not close, one sided game, Pirates win. JMO.
  5. Well, this question generated some response. My opinon, both but mostly progressed. Sequatchie and Boyd games were expected by most to be competitive; they weren't. SP traveled to Grundy and ran smack into an inspired, well coached team. Persevered and eventually pulled away in a game that was more difficult than final score reflected. All these games are reflective of how SP has matured as a team. Polk will be a real measuring stick for SP, show where they stand against tough competition. Glad for SP that this one is at home. Would not want to play Polk on the road this year. If Pirates aren't focused and ready to play they'll get blown out. I don't expect to see that. Just don't believe Polk will be able to contain those SP backs enough to win. If they do, they will. Should be an exciting game. D60, I believe you are correct. #4 is the player I like on defense. He's either making the tackle, helping with the tackle or ready to clean up any missed tackles. I like a player who knows and goes where the ball is.
  6. I will attend this game OP, but not to scout. Definitely the best game to see in the valley this weekend. This Pirate team has progressed a long way from what they displayed in the Hixson game; hoping they continue their winning ways Friday. Long as the line does their job those SP backs will find ways to get loose. That Lankford kid is much better than I've given him credit for. Another player on defense (#3 maybe ?) always seems to be around the ball. Would like to see both MC and SP arrive next week with matching 8-1 records. Just add to the appeal of the clash.
  7. Eraser, you MUST have been a linebacker. I like your posts; Glenn's too. Two posters who decipher the game down to it's simplist form, hit somebody hard and run fast. IF the SP linemen hit somebody hard enough to allow their backs to run fast all night long, Pirates win. If they don't, Pirates lose. Simple as that. Good luck. Already looking forward to next week.
  8. Only because this thread is so dead I'll toss a few stones to make some ripples. Neither Nohope or Al ever hid; not my style. APB and OP both shamed Nohope into an early grave after the 2008 season and old Al is stumbling around dazed and confused in the '09 / '10 years. I never left, just changed styles and kept on posting. I will, as stated, always be willing to resurrect this name to defend that 2008 team. One very special football team...the current MC and SP teams could learn a lot by studying that group. I've seen enough of SP this year to know they will still outrun most local teams. I like what Coach Moore is doing with his team. Seem to be getting more diverse with each passing week. Should really hit their stride and make some playoff noise by season's end IF they continue to corral those attitudes. I'm just not real fond of some behaviors I seen earlier this year. Boyd will be tough next week. SP would be smart not to be sucked in by their record. Just believe Boyd will be unable to pull off what Hixson did and contain those SP backs for four quarters of football. I guess ole Glenn would explain it by saying Boyd is good and fast, but not good and fast enough to beat SP this year. Reaction, just to be clear, I have always respected that 2008 Boyd team. Met a few of those players. Fine young men.
  9. I gave you to much credit. You must not have been at the ball game. That statement ain't near correct. Both how we got the ball inside the five and number of plays to get in are both wrong. Boyd moved the ball well between the fifteen/twenty yard lines, not so well inside those areas. Just poor sportsmanship not to give MC credit. Again, MC earned that win. Boyd and MC played twice that year, split wins, and scored exactly the same amount of points against each other. Justify in your mind how Boyd was the better team, but it was MC that advanced. Live with it. And Mr Ambassador, that 2008 team was much more than one player, however great he may have been. You don't ride the back of a single player to reach a state semi-final playoff game, and beat the type competition they did along the way. It was a tough road and they made it as far as they did by playing team ball. They were picked to finish dead last in their region before the season started. That team demonstrated just how far team work and determination can take a group of committed high school players. Still believe SP wins this game. And if you two will shut up about that particular game I'll stay gone.
  10. Mr Ambassador and Reaction, you guys should just let sleeping dogs lie. Reaction was likely at that game, Ambassador probably wasn't. I don't remember one single time a BB back just stopped and laid the ball on the ground. MC either stripped or knocked the ball loose each time. Same with interceptions. Boyd shouldn't have tested the MC defensive backs so often. As far as that stout Boyd defense stopping the MC offense. I remember the Boyd ball carrier being stripped at the one yard line with something like six plus minutes left in the ballgame. All the Boyd defense had to do was stop MC cold right there and get the ball back with good field position and plenty of time left to score; couldn't get it done. MC ripped off two, maybe three first downs, burning all but about 1:30 of the clock and driving the ball out around the fourty yard line before punting. It was no fluke Marion won that game. They earned it on the field with their play. Boyd lacked a kicker that year. That's the only thing Marion lucked out on. That 2008 MC team had a ridiculous positive turnover ration. Taking the ball from opposing offense's and not giving it up when they had it was a strength that 2008 team is not given enough credit for. It helped them win the Boyd game. That was a classic ball game that should be remembered for how hard each team played; both wanted the win. Way too much is made of statistics by some folks. I understand the disappointment Boyd fans (Reaction) feel about those turnovers. I'm proud of the MC players for causing them. Nothing lucky about their effort. Nohope will never be reluctant to speak up about this particular ballgame. Boyd can beat SP this year; I'll be surprised if they pull it off. Too difficult for a team to contain all that speed for an entire ballgame. MC will have the same problem later this season.
  11. Too funny APB. Its what makes visiting Alcoa threads worthwhile. Alcoa wins......again. Soon it'll be time for the annual "Who was the best team in 3A (2A) after Alcoa" thread to begin.
  12. How about this one....................I am calling an upset this friday night at the swamp when Marion wins the turnover battle and gets several good breaks along the way............cinderella's slipper is purple again this year. I can agree with that call. Marion plays their best football during playoffs, and if you think I'm joking I'm not (sorry Roy). Forget the records; these two teams have shown their closely matched. Marion has everyone healthy now (I hope) and all starters back this time around. Boyd has home field advantage; Marion is playing with confidence. Looking forward to another thriller with the Warriors once again the spoilers.
  13. .....and your point is.....what? Boyd beat SP (with an *), MC, and seven other teams. So what. New season, and I bet no one at BB will overlook this game with the Warriors. I figure Marion County will be the underdog in this game.....again......as they apparently have been for all five playoff games during Coach Boeck's tenure. They've managed to win four of those games thus far, all but the first on the road, losing only to apparently unbeatable Alcoa. These Warriors enjoy the challenge and I personally like their chances. Will definitely be a good football game. Congrats on a another great win last night Warriors.
  14. Don't think for a second that Alcoa would rather play CAK for a second time and then possibly face Polk before playing greater competition on the semifinal level . In a perfect storm situation, they will face a should be 1 seed in the quarterfinals then face back to back 1 seeds only after playing their 1 loss rival for the second time in 2 weeks. I'm guessing Alcoa players and fans don't really care who's in their bracket. I believe they generally have to beat CAK twice each year to get to the championship game. Polk does have a good team; if you were in the West you'd likely be in line for a silver ball. But you're not, so win a couple of playoff games, go to Alcoa and take your loss, try to enjoy the experience and realize you were eliminated by the best. Alcoa is, and apparently will continue to be, the real measuring stick to see just how good a football team you really are. Every year its the same thing, who gave Alcoa the best game on their way to another gold ball. I'm surprised APB and friends haven't already rained all over this thread.
  15. Marion will win this game. Congrats to the players and coaches. Good luck Warriors.
  16. I think you totally missed the point of the post there daddymac. I was just having a little fun with my own past experiences with AlcoasPaintedBridge (that's an Alcoa poster you'll come to know well when Polk advances that far) and our trip up there last year. Actually though, I wouldn't have missed it for anything. Every High School football team should experience that at least once; its a trip. Polk County has an impressive football team. I was impressed; congrats on the win. Heh...waddup my Jasper buddy?? BC and I took our dog and pony show to the Kentucky boards in week 0 and that punk and clown BC receives a LIFETIME ban up there....They have no sense of humor and I never log in with the same IP address twice. Honor among thieves brudder! that's how we roll....Here's one I saved for you. Hello APB, nice to be remembered. Did you catch that macdaddy. Thats what I was warning yall about. When Polk advances to Alcoa, don't miss the bridge, respect the pregame wardance, just accept that all 3A roads to the championship game leads through Alcoa (they will post plenty of road sign pics) and enjoy the game thread; its sure to be entertaining. These Alcoa folks have had decades to perfect their jabs.
  17. I think you totally missed the point of the post there daddymac. 18. I tell ya what...after we whoop Polk tonight...and then however bad Alcoa whoops them in the playoffs we will compare scores My blood runs orange and black and I am very smart when it comes to football and not every year....but years like this we could compete with Alcoa...like I said...if Jasper can compete so can we and notice I said COMPETE and not WIN....Now yall get that; in your heads!! Now go back to the Class A boards. Just a quick note to South Pitt and Polk County fans. You do not want to get this particular poster on your case. The Guru of picture posters will win that battle. These little horse and buggy days yeller heads will only make you look silly. Additionally, if Polk does make it to Alcoa, they'll paint humiliating things about your team on that bridge. Don't look. Great game last night between two pretty good teams. Best of luck to both.
  19. It may sound oxymoronic (if thats a real/appropriate word) but, Great game Pirates. Vic and Company must have delivered the all time best motivational halftime speech; two completely different games from first to second half. It showed real character for the Pirates to survive that first half and come out to dominate the entire second. Hats off to the Polk County team also. They're a very good football team. Reminded me of Alcoa; well coached, few mistakes, and right at you. Both teams will do well in post season play. Great game to watch; to both teams. Nohope says to Terrell. Heart and soul of this years Pirate team. Son, you are something special.
  20. I know they can' date=' I was just basing my prediction on what has happened so far. [b']They keep making mistakes and haven't done anything to make me believe they are willing to correct them, I will stand by my prediction[/b] and will be there pulling for marion to pull the upset I hate it for the Warrior players and coaches, but you nailed both predictions. Good luck next week Marion.
  21. [quote name="TheTruthPrevails" Boyd's D is good' date=' but I don't think their offense is really anything special. Still not much threat of throwing the ball very much. Of course Signal beat us on some playaction passes. The QB is more of a threat with his legs than arm. I don't think that Boyd will run wild on our D either, even though Beasley will be the best running back we have faced. If we turn it over, boyd will win big, otherwise it should be a slugfest. I have to give Boyd the edge since they have had an extra week off and they will stack the box much like MC will and force the QB to beat them. I say BB by 14[/quote] Not so fast Truth. Good post right up to that last little sentence/prediction. Marion isn't beat yet. I've watched Boyd play twice this season. OP is right, Marion can win this game IF they play up to their capabilities. I see two pretty evenly matched teams with Boyd having home field advantage and possibly some motivational factor based on the quarterfinal game last season. Marion has an opportunity to show they're better than their record indicates to date. They should also be motivated to show last years win was earned (not stolen) and can be repeated. This game can go a long way toward defining the true character of this years Warrior team. HOLD ONTO THE BALL and CATCH OPEN PASSES; both things have proven to be Marion's archille's heal this season. Marion can win this game; I believe they get it done..........again.
  22. Just one more in a long list of "Game Of The Week" type football games the Pirates have played all year. I was going to hold off predicting any results until Roy Dillard posted his/Murphy's analysis but, went over to the 3A thread and found it over there. Based on that, Grunts, PowerP, TTP and my own research, I think this game will not be close. Polk hasn't played the competition the Pirates have faced much of the season. Pirates roll, all the way to another Gold Ball. The 3A thread seems to be getting the most attention on this game.
  23. I've seen him out and about a few times and you are right about getting his head on straight. I wish he would too. He was a heck of a ball player and I think he could play at UTC. I don't know anything about Robert but I suspect he will do just fine. Nohope say to Robert and this years Pirate team. LV has little chance; never pleasant to play a good team just coming off a tough loss. Pirates roll.
  24. Its all good. Bratt22 has always been complimentary of Joe through the years. I suspect he's one of many atheletes/coaches from other programs Joe became friends with. He spells our last name the way most people pronounce it........Between ours and the Guyears, we kept fans entertained through the years anticipating what announcers would call each family. Marion will roll over Whitwell. Based on the jamboree results, Whitwell may keep it close for awhile. Marion looks healthy and focused to me right now.
