I think the to-be jr and soph classes are pretty good. I bet there are a couple that can tote the rock occasionally and fall forward. I hope the slot works out. Will D be near as good? -

Congrats to the MHS Diamond Rebs on a great run in baseball this yr. The new coach got the right kids wanting to be part of the team, the right kids both in and out of the lineup, and held things together thru the tough times early in the season. What a change from the last guy who had assistants who only coached their kids and others who showed up late for games. Thankfully, that circus 🎪 is gone. Though moving out of the best baseball district in the state is a mistake for the kids IMO, there is a lot of excitement about the Diamond Rebs once again! Maybe those Lambert brothers have a cousin that coaches football! JK -
Yeah. It has been all over the board regarding responsibilities. And it is odd that generally the A.D.‘s are the people who have gotten up there in age/experience. Makes me wonder if a young person might be quite a bit cheaper.

All gooder info. In my limited knowledge of ADs in the surrounding counties, most are either good guys or are said to be good guys. That’s important, but I also hear plenty of criticism about most. It seems the fundraising part of the job would be the best way for them to help. After all, that $50k salary could pay the $500 team fee for 100 athletes in the school. Or $250 for 200 athletes. (Showing my math skills!) My point is that if they could just raise an amount equal to their salary, that could be a big help for most teams. If they can’t, maybe free up their salary for the teams? I’m not trying to be harsh, but just thinking about bang for the buck.

Thx Spank. I’ve spent most of my life trying to be in 2-3 places at once, so it might be a good fit! With the HS NIL race opening up, having an AD that can raise $$$ would be a big plus for those families getting paid and those families having to push the raffle tix. I don’t check that box!

Interesting. Trying to exclude the teacher and/or administrator responsibilities, it sounds like an AD will check compliance (?), make sure there are workers for the games (just the gate not concessions), and either butt their nose into areas they shouldn’t or don’t help at all. Some may have a human resource appearance. Are they needed? Or just extra? Are the assistant ADs also needed? Is it crazy to think that fundraising should be a part of their responsibility? Are they too busy?

I’ve been fairly critical of high school athletic directors. If I remember correctly, these positions were created in the late 80’s and 90s in most areas. It seemed like they quickly turned into positions that the best coach could take to justify paying him more. Now it seems many ADs don’t even coach. I’m told some ADs now have dual roles and have asst principal duties-whatever those are. Middle schools now have ADs, not to mention some ADs have asst ADs!! My question is about the actual role of the AD. Are they supposed to fundraise? For example, how do they help the golf team, tennis team, football team, etc? It seems like most of the teams nowadays have three or four coaches, a team parent, and an individual fundraiser or three. Yes, I realize not all teams have three or four coaches such as the golf team, but some teams have many more. With all the coaches and asst coaches today, what does the AD do? PS: If anybody knows of an empty AD position, please share.

It is interesting that basketball championship team included the current basketball head coach and the current football head coach, along with an All-American football player (which makes a difference). If I’m wrong about that, I’m sure someone will set me straight. -

Those are interesting points. As another couch coach, I have similar thoughts when I watch them. Also, I think AG at OR likely outcoaches most of his counterparts. However, rw is right. Sr and Jr arent too shabby either. It’s a tournament sport, and they are in the state tournament. A BIG part of coaching any successful team is getting and keeping the best players you can. The duo seems VERY good at that part. Murvil has very good players. I haven’t darkened the doors or gates at old 825 in a while (and don’t plan to), but I hear the new regime of coaches are an improvement from what was there before. I guess the results speak for themselves. -
Will there be some suspense this year when determining the State Champ in AAAA?
-
Why does it matter what the reason is? is the fact that my daddy‘s gonna whip somebody’s #### a good enough reason? I’d bet it is at most places.

Could really help kids play football at one school their senior year, and the transfer at Christmas to play baseball elsewhere. I wonder how homeschooling fits into this?
-
Thanks for the info. That’s the most sensible thing I’ve read on here in a while. It sounds like he was put on a short leash from the start, and he was always trying to get off of it. He’s free now.

Yep

I don’t understand the reaction by the school system. Didn’t the Fairgut baseball program just do the same thing? Maybe it was gifts instead? A gold necklace and bottles of wine? I don’t recall the heavy hand in that case? Does Fairgut have their own school system that is different than beerdens?
-
Should be some worthy applicants if they keep kicking in that xtra $60k!
-
I thought it was 400-600 to play any sport in high school?
-
The Wild West. Just wait till Fairgut opens their wallets for football.
-
He’s a very good coach. Small ball guy. Best of luck to him. Elizabethton ain’t south Nashville when it comes to baseball talent though.

I do not disagree at all. The kid last year filled a similar to role to what Okpara fills for the Vols. And where would they be without him? I’m definitely not a basketball junkie, but it seems the other four guys need to understand the offense needs to go through the best scorer. Everybody is never the best scorer. Maybe it will just take them a little while longer to learn everyone’s roles. They are very talented for sure. Maybe the other teams have gotten better also?
