  1. I also thought east at times last year looked pretty good they were definetely scrappy and had alot of heart against equally matched teams in events I saw.
  2. Oh you know I didnt actually compare you to somone intentionally just the definition of the word... U are a gem of a guy - I just remembered seeing the name once before and was being cheeky about the regional champs stuff, thats all I dont remember what he says... Sorry BTW this is the second time in my post history someone said "Marshall I thought we were friends"... Awe the memories associated with that statement and we are all friends here... and as far as being on the subject - oooh snap! that king dude whoever he is is gonna have something to say about that name change I suppose... But you (my friend during all but November through February jk) are as I said a real hoot!
  3. TM - you arent also known as "humor" on this blog are you??? cause u r too funny! Last year Gville and Hill in my opinion would have been close and I guess I am going a little strong on how they looked very early in season when I saw them 2x and how they finished. Could have gone either way especially mid-season when I would have favored Sci hill... Honestly DB badly beating Gville last year had to have some asterisks associated, not that DB isnt good but Gville didnt look 15 points bad for this region when I saw them and should have matched up pretty well in areas to keep it close. And on another note just when i pleaded (outside of this blog) for someone to reconsider these tri meets Tim comes up with a doozy like this... I retract my opinion of tri-meets in this case... It would be a great and worthwhile venture BTW - Starting to feel the Hill has real good potential this year, alot of first year on V kids were put through the fire last year and should respond! Starting to jones for the season but will be very sad when this one ends!
  4. Actually It goes like this sci- hill and greeneville last year would have been a likely a greeneville win - last year - And DB is usually a close match with the Hill Adding to your list 215 John Boatman Sr -Greeneville - should win state this year - probably cruises with the split Josh Spangler Sr -THS - will go to state as usual and hopefully will win some matches - has a good chance to do well Ethan Morelock Sr -Hill - at somepoint you got to think with his 6 or 7 years experience should be productive Hunter Bagley So -Hill will go to state and will improve on 38 wins as a freshman up and comming 106 lb Freshman at the hill will be noteworthy Gary Hudgins Sr -Hill will have a good shot at placing this year needs to continue to get stronger and stop sucking so much weight - wrestling apptitude and ability is very good Not to put pressure on them but Austin Bagley, Palmer Begley, Max Vaughn, and hopefully Corbin Hurley will place this year and be competetive against anyone they wrestle There are a few others in the region that I dont know quite well enough or do know well enough and hope to see 2nd year growth at the varsity level that can go a long way and depending on self belief and hard work can make an impression at state. Also I just dont see the other kids in the region enough or remember them all to make a case but I am sure I missed a few gems...
  5. Bringback at it again... - Josh I agree and am with you appreciate you giving your time and coaching up the kids who want to be there and want to get better from around the state, that is what any of these offseason tournaments is really about. It does not make Tennessee look "bad"! It is not some all important how does the state look, but about raising kids and giving them opportunities to travel and learn and try in the sport they love...
  6. We shall see... Bringback, I know a few that will place at state and could win it from this area this year - just not one to typically go about throwing names out
  7. actually to be fair Bristol (Tennessee High) is up and comming with good leadership and some very dedicated young wrestlers as well, no disrespect intended fellas
  8. Sure Jake, I came from florida to Johnson City as well, In a nutshell Science Hill in Johnson City, Dobyns Bennett in Kingsport, with a few great kids in Greeneville is about it in this area, although some others are improving. Look for the Tournaments at Science Hill such as the Farrace and Fandetti to bring the better instate and out of state wrestlers in . I hear the Dobyns bennett Indian Classic draws some decent wrestlers as well.
  9. I think there is something to the born not made statement, of course not in every case, but I am sure I have observed this in more then enough cases to agree at times there may be something to it. The difference becomes personal interest and love of the sport and drive to improve the little things which in the end game makes the difference of course. I do beleive a kid who excells in high school ball will get noticed whether he plays travel or not, I also think travel may get you a little more noticed but not sure how much that affects the possibility of getting recruited. My opinion is intensive nearly year long baseball cant be good for young growing right or left arm! Interesting subject for a discussion...
  10. My two cents is too much baseball even for the kids who are special at the sport including my own. I fear injuries which have become way too common with young baseball players at the high school and following levels - especially with the highly talented who naturally are relied upon to pitch more and more because of their ability to win games. I made decision to slow it down and require my son to take more of a break (against his will and his 15 year old "superior wisdom"...) and am requiring him to participate in other sports as well, which is becomming a true rarity once you get to the high school level (even though his goals are grades and baseball related...) We shall see maybe I am wrong but however special a player he is - he is not going top have the chance to benefit or maximize his opportunities if he ends up with overuse injuries from continuing to throw and hit everyday - which he always is aching to do... Also I think a real good baseball talent probably still has a chance at tryouts if he is good enough btw... I hope I am not wrong on that...
  11. Basically some from our region including some not on your list have woke up and are working extremely hard since the end of last season to get where they need to be including tourneys out of state such as Alabama, Ohio tournament of Champions and more... With more to come this summer... They may or may not win it all but those who I speak of are putting in the time and effort to realistically have a shot and wont have to look back and say what if...
  12. Yep dont give a second thought to anyone from Region 1 - all a bunch of slackers all just in it for the fun and goofing with their buddies
  13. Science Hill took two against DB Thursday night for district championship - great effort, solid play and handled the pressure of an elimination game to force and win the final championship game like a solid team should! Congrats!
  14. Out of state - Alabama, Ohio, and Georgia to mention a few with more to come ...
  15. Just a shout out to the Science Hill Freshman team who went unbeaten and outscored opponents 98 - 21. A handful of those same freshman were also starters and the key to the JV's great season and especially winning the JV regional tournament against DB 5-4! Congratulations - you all had a great season, played beyond your years, and show incredible promise for the future of Science Hill and Tennessee baseball ! A very special group of players!
  16. Region I AAA has some contenders. For one - Science Hill looks very good from top to bottom and when you add in freshman to JV they are loaded for not only this year but a sustained run.
  17. Very happy that Austin is buying all in this year wish he would have earlier but glad he is now! He has given up other sports for wrestling over the last two years and it is a decision that suits him and he is satisfied with. Austin will improve dramatically over this offseason and next year he has untapped potential growth and development as a wrestler! Max has always been a very good soccer player too and there is room for kids to love and stick with other sports like Hunter as well with baseball and wrestle during the fall and winter and be respected and valuable contributors to the sport and the team. Shane has improved and grown up so much from Sophmore to Junior under your guidance, I think next year will be a very good year for him as well!
  18. Saw a few instances of standing takedown / reversals awarded prior to mat return or bottom man hand on the mat which puzzled me had an affect on two matches I saw as each time it was during closing seconds of period. Also in one 0-0 match saw a kid in a high bridge fighting a tilt and back points were not being awarded close match and that may have been a critical difference. All in all the refs were good, sometimes the kids just need to push harder and prepare pre-season more to take the close calls out of the outcome equation...
  19. I have a comment my kid not at all affected by referee calls at state. However, I watched many many matches and I thought many times about kids being called out during action that would result in points and the kids actually came down in bounds, I know kid safety is first however it was often. Also seems a guillotine along with some other standard legs applications have pretty much been taken out of wrestling here by potentially dangerous... Not a complaint just observation. Glad my kid is not a legs wrestler especially after seeing so many normal moves stopped.
  20. swiped this from another thread http://www.flowrestl...12-Summer-Break Unless our kids in NE Tennessee (mine included of course) do more of the above example they will not compete on equal footing with those who do what is being done in the above example.
  21. Over the years especially in AAU have seen this one too many times even a mother entering the mat! Too funny!
  22. Priceless saw a bunch of people I recognized in there "Jimmy Headlock Jimmy Headlock"
