  1. I wasn't surprised by the outcome at all, and a big congrats to the Commandoes for pulling out the W! When you have a player like Malone, you have to get the ball in his hands. Hollingsworth dropped the ball on this one - literally. And if the "best player in the state" had of been in that situation, you can bet he would have had more than 47 total yards. Sad.
  2. Jalen Hurd got hurt the 3rd play of the first game. Not exactly run in the ground, huh?
  3. I mean, that sounds great and all, but the fact remains Hillsboro beat a Beech team without the #1 player in the state and a top player in the nation. Well, what does that mean? That means most teams would've gotten their ####es stomped if JH had of been playing on both sides of the ball. Everyone saw what he could do at safety and RB, so y'all can say what you want, but you all KNOW that's the truth. Congrats to Hillsboro! I wish them the best of luck. I wish they would have had their crown jewel (Mr. Phillips), but they didn't, and we wish them much success in the weeks ahead!
  4. I am curious about something... If the wins/losses are changed, what does that do to the individual stats of the players? If a team forfeits, do the stats remain or do they disappear? My only concern would be that Josh Malone (who could easily be in the running for Mr. Football this year) could lose a majority of his stats this season. That obviously would be detrimental to his success at winning this award.
  5. http://www.gallatinnews.com/eligibility-questions-arise-at-station-camp-cms-127 There should not be an issue as long as the child moved from the Gallatin school zone into the Station Camp school zone. The word territory means "school zone" unless you're referring to private schools and it means "20 mile radius". If the child still lives in the Gallatin school zone, then there is a problem. My only concern would be if paperwork was submitted to the TSSAA and they messed up, whose fault would it be then?
  6. Hurd only played 13 games too as he sat out (injury) for a couple of games.
  7. Actually, SC played a heck a game against us and it could have easily went either way. Much credit goes to the Bison, and it would have been stated the same even if we would have lost. If we played y'all tomorrow though, we assuredly would get our butts handed to us - badly. Sorry, I just don't get that excited when a 4-4 team who hasn't beaten a good team all year claim some type grand victory over beating a dismantled Beech team.
  8. Credit? You want credit? You beat a run-oriented offense that had absolutely no running backs. No, I call that luck that you were even in that situation. Take away Gurley and Marshall, and you have a team like Missouri beating Georgia. Not because Missouri is a great team, but they were in an advantageous situation. Sorry, WC didn't miraculously become great overnight.
  9. Van Zant has been sidelined due to a concussion. Hopefully, he'll be cleared to resume activity soon. Beechs top 3 RBs were out at the WC game.
  10. Correct. Our starting RB - Carter - went down with a shoulder injury after the first series. Beating a team without their starter and now their backup RB who's now starting is no great feat. Had he have stayed in the game, Beech would have won. Simple as that. Unfortunately, district 9 knows injury all too well this year. I hate it for these young men. I don't know the extent of Carter's injury, but I am really hoping he will be able to come back and finish his senior season. He'll be evaluated tomorrow.
  11. Exciting game. Glad I didn't miss it. Great win, Green Wave!
  12. Sorry, bud you're wrong again, but that should come to no surprise from someone comparing Carter to an All-American. I will enjoy watching him roll over all WC this year though. I vividly remember all the trash you talked after the matchup last year, so it'll be nice to see our Bucs smash ya'll like MJ did.
  13. Against Wilson Central last year, Hurd was playing on a leg he could barely walk on. He could not cut back at all and kept running into a brick wall all night. It happens. Especially when you're the only guy on the team that 11 others are trying to kill. Love Carter and hope to see a bright future in front of him, but to compare him to Hurd? Are you serious? He's half the RB that JH is. As for JH at UT, he doesn't dance like Neal and Lane. He hits the hole and explodes, and I bet the house that he starts next year and does very well. And since Carter is supposedly as good as Hurd, he shouldn't have any problems running all over that weak Wilson Central team this year too.
  14. Even as a Beech fan, I very much agree that it was too many carries. There were a couple of games that Hurd took a lot of carries (30+) last year, but nothing close to that number. The problem that I have with it is because there are actually other viable options to run the ball on our team. Hawkins averaged the same ypc as Carter and to not use Van Zant at all makes no sense to me. Ok, he was out for a few days this past week due to a death. He was still there Friday night and the offensive scheme is the same it's been all season. I doubt that will happen again though. At least I hope that it doesn't.
  15. Yes, he played special teams only.
  16. Towards the end of the season, I felt they stayed with Hurd because he got the job done. Carter came into the season late and certainly did not play like he is playing now. Perhaps Crabtree didn't feel confident with him on the final stretch. Excluding the two games that Hurd sat out, he actually only averaged 24 carries per game. He took a lot of abuse last year because every team stacked the box against us because we've always been one-dimensional - not that he ran it a ridiculous amount of times. All in all, I just believe that it is hard on any one player doing that much work. Hurd, Carter or whoever. I don't agree with the number of carries that Carter had tonight though. Their bodies do begin to wear down, and after a few games like this, his playing and performance will suffer. Overcompensating, altering movements and so forth (due to fatigue, soreness, inability to heal completely) can certainly cause injury. Van Zant is a good backup to Carter and should have helped carry that load tonight.
  17. Glad to see the Bucs pull it out, but agreeing with the last couple of posts, I am very concerned with running Carter like that. J Hurd took a beating last year carrying it "too many" times, but even he never carried it like that. His ypc average was generally a lot higher, and everyone just accepted it because there was no one else to back him up. This year there are other capable backs though, and 50 carries in a game is just unacceptable imo.
  18. HC has a great line, are well-coached, and are very disciplined, but they are far from an outstanding team. Write what you will. It really doesn't matter. You know as well as I do that Beech from last year and HC from the prior year were outstanding teams. This team may slide through, but to call them outstanding is a bit premature. Funny as I find that before y'all played us, most of the HC faithful on this board were calling their own team slow, weak, etc. but now y'all are outstanding. Ha!
  19. And with HC's easy schedule, I expect that to continue. Doubtful that you all will face a real defense until the playoffs. Congrats, and I hope to see the Patriots continue a great run. I was just not blown away by this years team - I'm probably just very partial to the HC team from 2 years ago. In my mind, that's what a dominant 5A team looks like.
  20. You're absolutely correct. Congrats to Henry Co, but the reality of it is, they're really not that good. I'm honestly not trying to take anything away from the win, but other than their defensive line, there was nothing impressive about these guys all night. J Hurd would have not ran for 451 yards again and might have struggled going up the middle some, but once he got to the second level or around the outside, no one would have stopped him. He would have converted on all those HC fumbles, and with him back at safety, he also would have not allowed all those scores too. D Carter stepped in a tough spot. He's never been the guy that gets keyed in on, but he definitely got a taste of it last night with only 43 yards on 21 carries. Beech has a long way to go if they intend on winning any games against decent teams this year. I hope the Bucs can regroup and get a better game plan together going forward.
  21. Ha, not only will they keep him, there's a good possibility that he may start! Go Vols!
  22. Actually, a good parent wouldn't send their child out there to get beat on for potentially 14 more games. How badly does the bone have to be ripped away from the body before its ok not to play? For what? A state championship, rushing record, Mr. Football.... He has nothing left to prove on the high school level and will play on Saturdays this time next year. Mr. Hurd made this decision because its what's best for his health and future.
  23. Not sure, but I have seem him use an inhaler and use oxygen on the sidelines.
  24. Doubtful he will get that many carries unless absolutely necessary. Hurd will certainly play more defense than offense this year too, and because of that, the goal is to split carries between the other backs to keep him healthy for his transition to UT in January. He doesn't care about stats this year; his only goal is a return trip to Cookeville. We lost 16 starters (including the entire line), and honestly, I was pretty nervous for the game today because SC returned a lot (including most of their line). The game went better than expected, so I was pleased. Yet, kicking 2 balls off directly to Malone could have cost them the game. Not a smart move at all. Also, for clarification, no one ran over Hurd (when the fumble took place). Hurd laid the hit, and unfortunately, the kids helmet hit right on the ball. I agree that Hurd will need to get in better shape to get used to playing both ways. 90 degree midday heat probably played a huge factor in that too though that they won't be a factor the remainder of the season.
