  1. Saw that WB dropped a heartbreaker at Catholic last night, 57-55. It's tough to lose those close ones, but encouraging that we can compete with such a good team.
  2. Great picks, thank you for participating!! I must say, I think you might have me beat on a lot of those. It was very hard to go against Union City, BA, and Maryville. I will admit that Grace is going out on a limb (especially after I saw how many starters you all lose), but I've seen Coach Bradley work magic before. Coach Bradley's system always works, but sometimes it takes a year or so to get everything in place. I was surprised by how quickly it came together at GCA, and I expect him to (pleasantly) surprise everyone in 2018
  3. I think the FC running back is young, so he will be a big part of their success. That's scary because he is strong and fast even as an underclassman. You make a good point about Webb as well...they were young and they return Elijah Howard, plus Meske and his staff are one of the best in East TN. 5A is one of the most wide-open (IMO), because everyone seems pretty even with the exception of Catholic, and I don't know a ton about what they have waiting in the wings. So he might be 100% right about Henry County...and I'm sure I'll hear about it from if he is, lol. That sounds like a plan...you have until August, so no rush
  4. My dad doesn't have a CoachT account, but I talked to him and he's going to do it this year as well. Here are his picks: 1A: Greenback 2A: Meigs County 3A: Alcoa 4A: Greeneville 5A: Henry County 6A: Oakland DII-A: Nashville Christian DII-AA: Grace Christian Academy (Knoxville) DII-AAA: MBA
  5. Well, you may have found a bad pick on my end, LOL. Didn't know that Grace lost so much. I was impressed with what Bradley did in such a short team, but his senior-heavy squad may have aided in the turnaround. You're dead-on about Maryville, too. This is the first time I've ever picked against them, and I'm not very confident at all in doing so. I just keep hearing all that Oakland has returning, so I'm reluctantly going with the Patriots. Would you like to give it a stab? You always are knowledgeable about the game, and I think you would do well. Probably better than me
  6. Well, it's time again for the offseason...and as much as I love basketball, it's a sad time for me. I'm already looking forward to kickoff of the 2018 football season. Every year, right after the state championship games, I like to see if I can take a crack and predict the next season's state champions. I didn't do great for 2017, but I did manage to correctly call 4 of the 6 Division 1 winners (D-II drug me down, haha). It would be fun if everyone joined in and made their picks with me! If nothing else, it'll be entertaining to look back on this time next year. As a disclaimer, I mean NO disrespect to any teams via lack of selection. Some of these are based on starters returning, and some are just a wild guess and a hope to luck up and be right. These are also not all teams that I happen to be cheering for 1A: Greenback 2A: Trousdale County 3A: Alcoa 4A: Greeneville 5A: Knoxville Catholic 6A: Oakland DII-A: Nashville Christian DII-AA: Grace Christian Academy (Knoxville) DII-AAA: Ensworth
  7. What does everyone have coming back? I know Hillsboro has a lot returning from a Top-5ish quality team
  8. No more rain the the forecast for tonight in Cookeville. Hopefully this is a good game. The first two contests of the day didn’t have a ton of drama at the end. I’m afraid Catholic will win by a few scores, though. I actually think I’m for Catholic, but I want it to be a nail biter solely for the sake of entertainment.
  9. 17-14 Alcoa. Tornadoes ball on Alcoa 25 with 3:06 left in 3rd
  10. That was a big score by Covington. Didn’t want to let Alcoa get up two scores early
  11. Thanks pepvol...I feel the same way! Always enjoy reading your posts.
  12. I agree with you completely, and the points you are making. It's honestly all semantics, but I am way too OCD for my own good, lol. I have a very strange position on the whole topic due to this OCD, but I recognize that it's weird and most people probably don't see it the same way. I go by the official organization's record book for everything...so for example, if I was on a NCAA Division 1 FBS team that won a championship, it would bother me because it's not an officially recognized NCAA title. Even the new playoff system isn't NCAA-sanctioned. However, Division I FCS and Division II and III all have NCAA playoffs, so George Quarles has the rare combo of HS and College titles. Sorry for the un-requested explanation into how I see things, but I was just showing that I'm a little odd in this way, and I wasn't just trying to argue
  13. That was before the TSSAA had a playoff system and officially crowned a TSSAA-recognized state championship, so people that go strictly by the book omit that one. If it's any consolation, I think it should be completely equal across the board...none of the pre-1969 titles should "count" if people don't count Maryville's 1964 title. It's not their fault they played before the playoff system was initiated, and people shouldn't pick and choose who to recognize titles for.
  14. LOD, no disrespect intended toward Riverdale. I have always liked Riverdale and I am glad to see them doing well again. My comment was just because I have seen both play and I think there is a clear-cut choice for who is the top-performer, and I hated to see Hopkins miss out. That may be why they don't ask my opinion though
  15. I might be twisted, but I always pull AGAINST the team that knocks my team out
  16. Very disappointed in the selection of Mr. Football in 6A this year.
  17. I bought a Plus Membership this Saturday and that has taken care of the pop up “redirect” ads on the message board pages, but I still get them when I visit the scoreboard pages on my mobile device. Is this normal?
  18. Let's see if I do any better this week: Friendship Christian Notre Dame Brentwood Academy Greenback Union City Alcoa Greeneville Knoxville Catholic Maryville
  19. Haha it’s probably helping you guys becuase I’m wrong so much if it’s any consolation though, I ALWAYS pull for them. You guys have a tough team...and after the last two wins, you’ve earned the chance to play for the gold!
  20. If we’re being honest, my response was probably a little slanted because I have a bias towards a school on the west side of the bracket. I appreciate your candor, and I have to agree with you. Oak Ridge IS the best public school in the East side of the bracket. My comment was just due to the schools in the West. I think Oak Ridge would give Hillsboro, Beech and Henry County a very good game, but they could also easily get beaten by any of the above. Those four schools (and Brighton, but they didn’t have a give a very good showing last night) are all very evenly matched. So you could very well be correct. I was probably too quick to discredit a good team.
  21. There you have it. Thanks for the info. Some things look funnier than they actually are
  22. Sorry, didn’t mean to get the thread sidetracked. I was just replying to the comment that was posted in here
  23. I’d give anything to know the story there
  24. No offense meant, but I’m not sure how you can say that. If you’re going by who advanced the furthest, then Oak Ridge would be behind (or tied with) a lot of teams, since 7 public schools advanced to the third round. If you’re going by strength and not just by how far a team made it, I can think of a few public schools in 5A that could claim that title. Oak Ridge had a great season that everyone should be proud of, but there’s no objective way to say that they’re any more than a third round playoff team (which is still a major accomplishment).
  25. This is a game I wish I could attend. At the beginning of the season, both of these teams had a lot of talent to replace from the previous year's squad, and Cane Ridge had to deal with the jump from 5A to 6A. However, both teams and coaching staffs have done a great job of maximizing their talent and getting the most out of their players. I love Whitehaven and I usually pull for them, but it would be really cool to see Cane Ridge make their first ever title-game appearance. I like the Ravens in a very close one
