  1. Yes they did Strong, yes they did... Randall wasn't even the most talented guy Alcoa had on those teams, but he was by far the hardest worker & most dedicated. I had this same discussion with Stephen Shriver the other day about Brian Sommers & how he could have easily been on the list of guys to make it to the next level out of that stellar Blount County collection. It’s a shame about him too, he had South Carolina all over him up until the "incident" at school & even when he got his 2nd chance at UT Martin Shiver said he got into more trouble there. You can look at all of those guys for Alcoa (Brandon, Dustin, Ray, & Shiverdecker) who had a shot at the next level & most of them blew it for one reason or another... Personally, I thought Shiverdecker was the most talented out of that group, but all of those guys were absolute STUDS & if Prevo doesn’t buckle down he will be the next in that line. Thanks for you the other guys on here for backing me up, I'm a Rebel for life & no matter how much I love my school I will never be accused of wearing the Red & Black colored glasses. I call it like it is & if my fellow Rebel supporters have a problem with that, then come see me & we can deal with it like men. I've known Prevo since he was in midgets & have watched his age group grow up over the years so I have a vested interest in seeing them succeed. I know the staff at Maryville (especially Coach Waters) have been working with him & I can't say enough about how much those coaches care about their players from the feeder teams all the way to GQ himself. That being the case, you can only lead a horse to water so to speak & the rest is up to them. It's not like its some big secret about what I mentioned any way as a ton of people have told me the same thing (this time it was a coach). My hunch is Prevo screws his butt down to his desk over the next few months & leaves any doubt about his eligibility out of the question. My whole point in initially saying what I did was to include Prevo amongst the top players in 2013 with the caveat he doesn't end up like Patrick.
  2. Wow, looks like I'm getting flamed for stating Prevo might not be eligible next year. Didn't think people would be so touchy

  3. Yes , he is ex military. I played with Hicks all throughout school & we graduated together from Maryville in 1996. He was Blount County Co Player of the Year (with Korey Conner from Alcoa) & was a 1000 back for us. He did a awesome job stepping up as our tailback after our starter got hurt mid way through the year. Hicks was our starting FB in our hybrid wing T that we ran under Hammontree, but after Jeff Cummings went down he was able to put together a few 200 yard games & finished strong. Amazingly enough, Hicks was our starting QB our Jr. year & we made the playoffs then as well. The majority of the media thought that was a mistake, but what they didn't know was that was the on.y year he started at QB. If not for him, Cummings, Josh Hendricks, & Levar Scales (all dynamic skill position players) our class would have probably been the 1st to bring back a gold ball to Blount County. Just wasn't meant to be though...
  4. I didn't say anything bad about Prevo in any way. Did I say he was stupid, no. Did I say he was a slacker, no... I've known the kid since he was in pee wees & this has been a recurring problem for him. Personally, I WANT to see him pass his classes & get his head on straight so he doesn't have to go the JUCO route. There have been too many talented kids go nowhere because of their grades. I saw it happen when I was in high school to a number of good guys that could have went to the next level for both us as well as Alcoa & had multiple teammates in college suffer the same fate. Wasted talent is always a shame, but seeing that I was told this info from one of the coaches what does that make them? So get off your high horse & take it for what it is. I bleed Maryville all day-every day & continue to contribute my time & money to the school I love. I'm sure the people at LC hated to see Patrick not in uniform this year & I would be heartbroken if it happened to Prevo. So don't get all butt hurt that I mentioned the kid might be on shaky ground.
  5. Let's hope Prevo at Maryville passes his classes this year. I got word if he doesn't improve he may suffer the same fate as Camion Patrick at LC.
  6. The new coach is Jason Hicks. Former teammate of mine at Maryville & will definitely be an upgrade over Ridge.
  7. ...Will be announced tomorrow. He will be an upgrade over who they have had lately, but I'm sure the school will be pleased to say the least.
  8. Ouch, Heritage has one good team & the man gets all butt hurt about one silly mistake. Try establishing a winning tradition that lasts more than a year or two & maybe that will grab other schools' attention thus fixing your problem.
  9. Hey Coach, We talked last year if you recall about one of my former UTC teammates who might be interested in this role. What's your number & I can call you.
  10. Yes you can win with the wing T, look at the Cleveland dynasty of he late 90's. Of course, they were probably the most talented team in TN history in 93 so that helps a lot
  11. Really?!! Milan couldn't beat Alcoa, but CAK for sure couldn't beat Maryville. Just be content with what you guys accomplished which is awesome, but Mlan will never be on Alcoa's level & this will be the last year any team besides Alcoa wins the 3A title. I would bet a month's salary on that one...
  12. The answer to that is not likely. If Bennie Monroe is no longer there, they will probably never get past teams out of Maryville's district.
  13. Spanky, you might have played with my one of my cousins on my mom's side (David Henderson). Interestingly enough, he & another cousin on my dad's side (Jay Malone) are good friends even though they didn't play together at Maryville. Davidtold me the story of how good Leroy was & wished he would have went to UT instead of Penn State.
  14. One was a game I played in, the other was one I watched when I was a kid in 1989. The game I played in was Maryville vs. Powell in 1995. Powell had a good team that year & we (Maryville) were undefeated going into the game. A win would clinch our 1st Region/District title in close to 10 years, Powell was a heated rivalry then for us. We recovered a fumble snap from Collin Steen to regain possession late in the game, converted a 4 & long to get in scoring position, the hit an inside revers hand-off to current Alcoa assistant (David Sweetland) to pull ahead with 30 seconds left on the clock. Talk about gut wrencher!!! The other was the Alcoa vs. Austin East regular season game in 1989 at A-E. That was one of the biggest crowds outside of a Maryville-Alcoa game I've ever seen. Alcoa was loaded that year with Billy Williams, Shannon Mitchell, Rusty Chambers, Chad Jackson, etc. Austin East was as dominant as ever & had spanked Maryville consistently during that era. The game went to overtime & Billy Williams blocked a late kick to seal the game. Vaulted himself off one of the lineman’s back & got high enough to block the kick. Sent the Alcoa sidelines into a frenzy!!
  15. Bradley's good, but not quite GQ good. There's nothing wrong with that though, it's just there aren't many coaches at all on the high school level as good as GQ period...
  16. Good insight here... I will definitely put Bradley up there with GQ as two local high school coaches who have the IQ to operate a deadly passing attack every year. Carson Newman can look at a lot of talent from this area alone & a previous winning tradition as reasons why they can make it back to the top of DII. I also thought that Carl Torbush was there as the DC, can anyone confirm that?
  17. Didn't Coach Sparks at Carson Newman come from high school (Farragut) straight to the Eagles? Wasn't sure on that one, but I know he was at Farragut at one point...
  18. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Now that is funny! I have a ton of stories about Coach Frye, good guy but not a good football coach at all...
  19. I'm only the messenger here so don't kill me, but a prominent former college/NFL player & current high school coach in Alcoa/CAK's district told me that this could be a likely scenario. I am skeptical a little bit, but with Meadows stepping down at Catholic & this being Bradley's last good shot at winning a title at CAK, this scenario seems plausible... Thoughts?
  20. Using that same analogy, what does that say about DB? You guys had one of the best (if not the best) coaches in Maryville history in Ted Wilson & still couldn't win a title. There's no question DB has more quality players than Maryville, so how do you explain coming up empty handed over the course of 60+ years? Even the titles you guys do claim came from voters & not played on the field. So does that mean the Eastman-Kodak fumes is what's causing your programs futility or is it the lack of coaching that "wastes" DB's along the lines of how you say UT's talent gets wasted???
  21. Wrong, not last year (http://insider.espn....=2&viewmore=yes) or this year (http://247sports.com...iteTeamRankings). Of course, having a battle of football IQ with anybody from DB is foolish as more times than not you guys come to the fight unarmed & uneducated. As far as Foreman starting for any team, don't count on that... He might start at a skill position, but not at QB (especially at Maryville). Heck, the competition you guys play on a consistent basis is laughable & would make anybody look good. Say what you want, but DB has been the biggest choke artists in TSSAA history having the most program wins of all time (easy against sub-par competition) with no titles in the modern playoff era (http://www.tssaa.org...etTheRecord.cfm). So have fun being bounced out of the 1st round again... BTW - For the record, UT's staff has underachieved, but they aren't as bad as you think. Offensively, their staff is great (especially Graham & Pittman), defensively not so much. I'm not happy about it by any means, but you can't argue the fact that they have played the 2nd toughest schedule in the country, at least made it close against SEC competition as opposed to Candy, & will more than likely win the rest of their games.
  22. Just in, Foreman was probably not good enough to get recruited by TN. However, congratulations to him & an early condolences on getting bounced out of the play offs in the 1st round (again)
  23. Where is the world does he get the idea that Maryville is full of hillbillies?? lol Maybe Stars can answer that one...
