  1. Yea, they have been mentioned a time or two. They'll still have a good shot at top 4, but lost what, top 6 players? Going in, CF is the team that potentially has a state tourney roster , but will start waaaaay behind the 8 ball with little or no practice time for all but maybe one of their top 10 or 11 players. Plus a new coach. WB, OD also start ahead of Harriman. Who knows though, maybe they can move up some as the season progresses.
  2. I'd say 2nd at best.....somewhere between 2nd and 4th in D3. Things sure look alot different in the former region (D 3&4) with Meigs and GCA gone.
  3. I think OD missed their rare chance a couple years ago. Not a bad group this year overall, but weaker than the last couple of years. One really good player and 5 or 6 possible contributors...solid to pretty good. A couple of those 5 or 6 would have to be better than M. Smith has been the last couple of years for them to make a postseason run. That's pretty doubtful. Coalfield should win that district talent-wise, but a new coach and roster of football kids may never be able to get things together. They weren't able to last year on a consistent basis. Missing 3+ weeks together practice-wise may hamper them all year. WB should be pretty decent as well. CF, WB, OD should battle for top three, 2nd group of Harriman, RW and Oneida. OS, MW & SB likely at the bottom.
  4. Yea, they still have some solid players. Probably 4th - 6th going in, with a solid chance to move up depending on how things come together for them and those starting above them in district 3.
  5. Assuming no football injuries, I think Coalfield comes out of district 3, region 2. Lost a couple of contributors, but key players return from team that lost by four to state champion Harriman (at Hman) last year in region. Should be better overall talent on this team plus possibly the best player in the region in Mckinney. May take a while though, all starters and nine of top ten players are football players. New coach as well.
  6. How many single A round one games are even worth playing? It's atrocious. Maybe Unaka has it right...if all 4 seeds would forfeit....what would the tssaa do?
  7. It's 19 seniors by my count (I could have missed one) and only about 10 or so make more than a token contribution. 1/3 or more never see the field until the game is basically over. 10+ is a nice number, but I doubt it's anywhere close to what those teams had.... In number or ability.
  8. I'm going agree with Bass on this one. For MC to have that many players on the sideline and have to run out that small of a line tells CF they are way down this year....way down. You mention 25 years or so, it's true CF has improved... But the primary thing that helps a school CFs size is 6 classes in the playoffs. Makes everyone happier when they have a chance to win a couple playoff games....something that just wouldn't/ didn't happen very often with 3 or 4 classes. Middle school wise... I don't know...that group they play in is horrible most years. Hard to say, but the senior group was beating every one, including bigger MSs by 40.... The last 2 or 3 groups just trying to get a win most weeks. OS has been pummeling them the last 2 or 3 yrs. So, looks like a significant drop off coming to me. Four teams make the playoffs, so yea, they'll win a couple playoff games most years.... But nothing close to the last 4 years looks plausible at this point.
  9. The Lowe kid is in the 4.6s....there's not anyone else that I've seen. Who have I missed?

After seeing tonight's games...both of Monday's games are pretty close to tossups. I could see any two of the four advancing. GCA's tough schedule has them prepared and probably gets them through, but the two Oneida kids are the mound are very good. The Wilson kid will be among the better ones you've seen this year, even with that schedule. CF will be a tough out at home with the lefty on the mound as well. GB has shown they can play with anyone all year...should be a good one.

what's tomorrow's schedule? Winner game 1 vs GCA tomorrow, or Friday? Game times? 5 & 730?

TSSAA requires districts to be finished by May 12....that's Friday.

A young GCA just ran through GB last nite, didn't they? Surely GB will be ready at home tonight.

In D4a this week, Coalfield (16-1) vs Oneida (12-4) for control of that district. Word is that CF is the deeper team, but the two Oneida kids are tough on the mound. Weaker schedules overall than GB, Meigs, GCA, but Oneida beat Rockwood from 3a, and CF beat Harriman and Tellico soundly. Are either of these two a threat to whoever emerges from the triumvirate in 3a come region time?

Meigs may factor in as well... they've split with GCA already. I'm sure Oneida and CF would like to have a say also. Both have a couple good arms to lean on.
  16. I think you missed my point or maybe I wasn't clear. There were three players from region 2 on the list... All good players...but he was the best player in the region. Likely none of those 3 are D1. ..that wasn't my point. My point was that the best player in the region wasn't on the list when 3 others were. And no, I'm not from GCA. I don't know the kid, but I have seen all play....he was the best player in the region.
  17. I think the snub from Region 2 wasn't the Harriman kids.. where in the world was Connor Arnold from GCA? I looked twice...did my eyes fail me? Hands down, he was the top player in the region. Certainly the Harriman kids were good, as were Mckinney and Moore and a couple others... But Arnold was the top kid I saw in region 2. Headscratcher.

I saw where Rockwood split at GCA...is that a huge surprise, or just baseball? No one had really mentioned Rockwood that I noticed.

He just said they have to prove themselves as one of the best in ETenn...he acknowledged they have good talent. I wouldn't grade him too harshly on that...seems legitimate to me....and I suspect they will show it come May. Two teams will come out of region....At this point, there are at least four with a good shot. Three from 3a and one from 4a. Let the games begin. CF beat Harriman in a scrimmage last night. Both teams played most everyone. Doesn't mean much, just info.

The simplest solution would have been to extend the season 3 weeks or so and not force 30+ games into a 60 day window. Basketball is 24+ games and lasts Nov to March....without the pitching issue. I think in most districts teams will confer a couple times per game on the pitch counts and split the difference. For example: I say 54, you say 52...we settle on 53. Varsity Rules: Cannot pitch 3 days in a row. less than 25 pitches= can throw next day. 26-55= 1 day off. 56-75= 2 days off. 76-119= three days off. 120 or more=4 days off Single A Thursday & Friday games could get ugly.

CF should be the team to come out of 4a again this year and likely better than last year. Sounds like they have a pretty good mix of players and experience. 2nd is likely wide open in 4a... With maybe an edge to Oneida...couple pretty good arms returning.
  22. 14 exactly. Nice work. Do you have a crystal ball for the champ game, Kaz?
  23. CF is mostly healthy now... they'll probably beat WB and OD. I hedge a little because it's at WB though.

    Top 1A teams

looks like as defending champion, and most everyone returning, CF is the team to beat. Oneida probably top challenger... Unclear after that.
