  1. Did anyone else in Injun territory smell that this morning? From that slight breeze coming in from the southeast, could have swore there was a little fear in the air. The War Paint is out, The Plan is laid. It's time for WAR!
  2. Be honest and give Rockwood credit, they just whipped you. Something about playing on a natural surface on a cold night that can change a thing or two. If you do not have your head on right from the beginning you just might lose it. Now, I am not here to bicker or argue, or even make comments against these fine young men on both teams. They are young men and most very young at that, most not even 18 yet. We sit back and take pot shots at each other and that's ok, but remember we are not the ones playing the game. A little PCC goes along way here, maybe it should flow to some other ares. The game: Oh My Goodness, Lambert's boys are ready, come prepared to be hit, and win or lose, I guarantee GCA will know that they were in a dogfight. Do not come to the mountains thinking you have it in the bag. There will not be any pancaking of the OHS D-Line, nor the Linebackers. And the DB's well they going to stick those boys too. Nobody scores more than two touchdowns on the reservation!
  3. Hampton gets a first place vote?????????????????? Geewhiz, I guess some sportswriter in upper east needs to not be allowed to vote anymore. They lost a game at home to a team that does not get a first place vote. Sometimes voters should vote on what happens on the field and not what they want to happen. Oh well, it get's settled on the field not in the polls. Let's keep rolling.
  4. Quad 1 1. Oneida 2. Grace 3. Hampton 4. Meigs County/Boyd 5. Rockwood/Meigs 6. North Greene/Rockwood Is that about the current seeding? Depending on North Greene?
  5. Well, quick observation from last night's game. If other teams are going to put ten men in an area that is 6 feet deep and 18 feet wide and OHS doesn't throw the ball, the playoffs will be very short lived. I couldn't believe that OHS would not throw the ball with one DB for SHS limping to cover the WR no safety over the top. OHS needs to call plays to win the game, not plays not to lose. From listening to the radio though, I guess OHS cannot pass block. Better figure it out or football season will end on Nov. 14 at home and that would suck. Congrats to the Defense for the stingy yardage for SHS.
  6. Going to be a tough night for both teams. So much on the line. If the OHS safeties and linebackers play well in coverage over the middle OHS wins going away. The corners hold their own very well. Sunbright can't run on this Defense. If OHS opens the offense a bit more than runs up the middle its gonna be a long night for Sunbright. Look for #1 to throw the ball more than we have all year. OHS district champs outright!
  7. Oh, the thoughts of Thursday. The high lift came to town yesterday, already in the south end zone. The rain just softened the field. It will not be raining come Thursday. The early arrivers to tailgate. The fun that will be had. The sense of concentration. The building of the excitement. So here we go: The little boys get on the big stage. I remember how hard small school football is. If anyone remembers the movie Necessary Roughness, when the defense took the field one guy ran on and one ran off, it was that way 25 yrs ago but a little different today. If this game is close in the fourth, Oneida pulls it out based on the conditioning factor. I say that on what I have seen from Oneida and the opponents they have faced. Late in the game they were the better team. I see them move a lot of players along the line and a steady rotation of ball carriers. Don't be surprised to see Oneida do some stuff to finally try to win a game instead of trying not to lose it. The ball will hit the air this week for the Indians. If Coalfield has to throw, they are beat. How did the DBs play against GB? Something tells me they know how to respond. the Coalfield QB can't carry them. To have a chance it has to be a 14-7 7-0 game. I know the coaches at Coalfield really well, and they know ball control and shortening the game is the only way too. Good Luck to both, I pray for the players' health. May the battle begin.
  8. Let's get back on track. What has brought OZ down so much this year from last? Anyone have a clue?
  9. Well, it actually has nothing to do with the size of the town and only the size of high school enrollment. Scott County High is a Four A school so that should explain most of it. Look around at the Counties that have small schools, Marion, Trousdale, etc. Those schools represent the entire county and are still so small.
  10. After last night's poor performance this is a much need boost. OS is having a difficult year. This just means Oneida gets a win in the district. TL never lays it on thick, so around a 35 point victory. But I sure would hate to be practicing this week after the turnovers, missed opportunities to get turnovers, and flat play all together. Guess the boys figured Rockwood beat Oakdale by 48 that we should as well. All the stuff around the school is a distraction too on homecoming week. It's behind us now let focus on OS and get the job over early to rest up for the short week!!!!!
  11. Game Day. Rain. Good news for a ground and pound attack. It looks as if the rain is pulling out this afternoon and none will be falling during the game. Things could get slick but that will not dampen the night. Gonna be about a 30 point game. The OHS DBs play like two weeks ago it could be more due to defensive scores. All in all good game to watch. Oakdale's improvement will be a delight to see. I expect Oneida to try multiple offensive looks in order to see how open the offense can be over the coming weeks. I would think players will be moved around some on offense to try and plug some void with playmakers. Let's sit back and enjoy. Wishing a safe trip to all Oakdale fans on the approach and return home! See you HERE!
  12. Scary game for both teams. I have seen them but up close and personal this year. Two very talented teams. Both very physical. Both well coached. Home field goes a long way, but remember Rockwood did go to Oneida and win. Oneida went to Greenback and won. Maybe home field means little? But after evaluating both, I would have to lean to the Greenback side in a 14-7, 20-14 kind of score.
  13. Homecoming on the reservation. Everyone invited. After last week this game doesn't appear to be the heavy-weight fight it once was to be. Oakdale will have to stuff the Oneida running game, which Greenback found is hard to do. Oneida's front seven get penetration and the DB's have picks and this one is over at halftime. Oneida comes off the throttle and cruises to victory on highly defensive second half. Good luck to the Eagles this year, but no taking down the mighty Indians this year.
  14. They sure can if: 1. GCA is suddenly put on probation for recruiting violations; 2. Oneida decides football season is too long and forfeits any remaining games; 3. All Roane County schools, including Harriman, disban the football programs; 4. Hampton and North Greene get into a fight during their game and get suspended from the post-season; and 5. No one in Section II wants to play in the east and decides to stay home from the playoffs. You are on the right track but I don't think you can get around the big boys in front of you just yet. Coaching is improving so just give it a year or two and the playoffs should be a regular thing. Good Luck!!!
  15. Know you, I would love to see this, but the Oakdale streak is over and too sadly, over bad. Rockwood is going to be mad, upset, and have something to prove to its fans after last night. Look for a big Rockwood win. BUT, Good luck Eagles.
  16. Ok, got up this morning feeling really good about a tough win. Your starting Half-back goes down and you find a way to fight through it? Plain ole tough Oneida team. Two backs in two weeks, off week looking really good right now. But, after reading everything here from Greenback was the better team on the field to blaming coaches, geezes it was a great game both ways, I would consider both teams equal. Play it tomorrow, Greenback probably wins. But take nothing away from the fightin Injuns, they did whatever it took to win the ballgame on Friday night. Kind of ironic that the defensive backfield for the Indians played so well on a night after being run in the ground for weeks that they cannot defend the pass unless the line gets pressure. Well, the boys played really great back there all night from closing in on tackles, breaking up passes, and TWO interceptions. As the year goes on Bowling #20, West #7, Sexton #15, and who is found to replace Newport #33, could be a very tough unit to pass on as well as run based on how each has matured since the Rockwood game. Fourth Quarter O-Line play-----------Exceptional, they decided it was time to work and they outworked GB. Backs got bull-nosed and boy I could have swore I saw Earl Campbell running over defenders on his way down the field, had to look again and it was #19 in a orange and white uniform, great running Kid! Great Game, both teams, but in response to other posts, Oneida was the better team on the scoreboard Friday night. Just lucky it was Friday night and not today.
  17. Well is been an impressive night for the Indians. Backs running wild on the tough boys from Watertown. Excellently fought battle but Indians up 40-7
  18. Did anyone check out the new AP Poll for high school football? I see some major faults. How can a team that got beat a week and a half ago be ranked higher than the team that came to their house and beat them after both teams beat push overs last week? I guess its about who you know and not what you do on the field.
  19. Okay, here is what I know from last year and what's gone on this summer. Coalfield probably will not lose a district game, too strong all around and the new freshman is gonna cause a lot of problems for the district, I mean he did win Tourney MVP. OS good talent, should be a toss up between them and Oakdale for second. I would put Wartburg over Jellico for a couple reason. 1. Jellico has to travel too far for district games 2. Other than Jellico's PG, I don't think enough points can get scored to win, Wartburg should be balanced and has good coaching. Now the bottom feeders, Oneida and Sunbright. New coach at Sunbright, saw him as an assistant at Scott County, has lots of enthusiasm coaching is questionable, new system, new coach = growing pains. Oneida, well, when you don't develop of coach younger players is comes back to bite you in the tail. Always had good athletes but average coaching. I'd be surprised if they win more than 4 district games. No height but they had two great shooters who were Juniors, if both play they could carry the team and they need to be coached to play as a team. Heard from an Oneida dad that one of them might not play, if not, that could land them in the cellar. And as for the region, saw Megis County this summer, VERY DOMINANT. talented wing man that I think is a sophomore. They are the favorites.
  20. Ok, I fired myself up. Some of the coaches should be ashamed of the false reporting.
  21. I hate to say it but when coaches keep stats they tend to lie for their players. The only way for any voters to know what goes on around the state is to look at coach reported stats. Errors don't go down as errors, fielder's choice's don't end up as fielder's choice's in the score book. I think it would be interesting to compare score books at the end of the game. I watched a lot of baseball this year and actually watch one team 7 times just because it happened that way with where I went, but I have seen some stats reported of players on that team and there is no way the stats are right. To be right the young men would have had to of hit .950 in all other games. I think its coaches pushing who they want for player of the year in their district and until there is a fair impartial score keeper in those games the lies will continue. Don't forget the parents that keep score and their kid will go 4-4 all singles when they really didn't have 4 hits but rather 1 and 3 ROE then and never scores, when the kid that reaches on errors goes 0-4 but scores 4 times. Get some fairness for game reporting. Until then, enjoy this system we have for picking all state.
  22. Does anyone have a good grasp on whats going on around the district? It appears that Oneida and Oakdale are the teams to beat. I know Oneida won the District last year. Anyone have clues of any of the teams?
  23. I would score it a wild pitch if it hit the dirt before engaging to catcher. I don't see it as a dead ball, I see it still live because the ball never left the field of play. I think the Umpire is wrong. If tagged out, he is out.
  24. We knew this was gonna be the week. Last week the choice came down to Campbell County/Gibbs vs. Oneida/Tellico Plains, then heard they were saving Oneida for the Grace game. I doubt Oneida would refuse.
