I'd say whoever loses this is in a big hole, but with lots of time to dig out. I haven't seen either team personally yet so it is hard to predict. I'll take SC based on talent (28-21). On another note, I was surprised to read what the SC coach was quoted as saying in the paper last week about the reclassification. I think it was something like "we don't belong in a class with the big schools." Why would a coach want to throw his team under the bus like that? They still have to play this year in 6A. Does he think his team isn't very good or is he making a built in excuse if it doesn't go well this year? I think a coach would be better off saying we'll play in whatever class we fall in.

Saw where the Tennessean labeled the Pioneers as a "surprise team" in District 6AAA. Kudos to the coaches and team as Good News seems to be hard to come by over the years.

The New Super 6A and 5A with Possible Changes
13sports replied to mjuhb's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
I agree. If people were going to work out their own "trades" of classification, why not just trade with someone at the 1a level. LOL. -
No team who wants to play up will end up "stuck" in 5A. And you can take that to the bank. You will probably have 30 teams willing to move down if offered the chance.
-
I think some of you are putting the cart before the horse. It is ok to speculate what everyone's enrollment numbers will be, but they won't be using the numbers from the previous classification. The numbers that will be used, will be based on this year's school enrollment which won't be available from the state department of education until about October. All of the schools who were on the borderline based on the previous classification numbers may move up or down based on this years number. I would think that Hendersonville, SC, Beech, Gallatin, all have experienced growth in their student population. I would believe that Portland has probably been fairly steady. I would assume the same would be tru for the Wilson County Schools. It will also depend on other school systems as well. In Rutherford County new schools such as Stewart's Creek, Williamson County's Summit and Nolensville High Schools and others may make a difference. In other words, some schools are gonna be happy while others are gonna be extremely disappointed. There will always be a largest school in each classification and a smallest school in each classification. But, don't despair. One thing is for certain, it will probably change in a couple of years. It always does. Eventually, everyone will be a state champion.

In the last classification, there were 31 schools with smaller enrollments that were playing 6A. There were only 24 schools in the state with larger enrollments. If the TSSAA took the largest 32 schools as they have talked about, they would only be a few spots away. However, I don't see that many schools with a desire to move up. Probably only Maryville. The positive would be that all 32 schools in a "Super 32 Conference" would make the playoffs. Therefore Warren County would be guaranteed to make the playoffs every year. Can you imagine how motivated you would be after an 0-10 season to have the privilege of playing a state powerhouse like Oakland, Riverdale, Blackman (or Maryville) on the road in the first round of the play-offs? You could be the first team to go 0-11. And I'm not bashing WC. Based on past history, it could happen. Getting stuck in the super 32 would absolutely kill football in WC for good.
-
Only if they are the smallest school in that classification. They won't be close to the smallest with their current enrollment.

Has Hendersonville hired a coach?

Since you know how the "good ole' boy" system works, maybe you should check out the education system. Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and use of capital letters helps to make written statements easier to read and understand.

Good Post Buckman! Welcome to CoachT. I like your cautious optimism.

Sad to hear this. Good Coach, Great Man.

My Guess. 1. Hendersonville 2. SC 3. Gallatin 4. Beech 5. MJ 6. Lebanon 7. WC 8. Portland I think Lebanon is most likely to pull an upset of a team ranked above them. SC could win regular season because of talent. This is their last chance to go very far in the play-offs for several seasons (I believe). MJ is just a complete unknown. Was last year a "bump" or a complete "sink hole?" Time will tell.

Yort, are you saying that Stacia Dean has left the AP position to return to the classroom and sideline? I don't think Sumner County allows principals to coach.
-
Who is this 30 year veteran you keep talking about? I don't believe it. I think it is just a smoke screen.
-
Pretty good post Yort. Unfortunately, we have to talk about parents way too often. It has become commonplace to have to appease parents and their desires. Every parent who wants to coach, should get a degree and apply for the job. District 9AAA has some really good coaches and several that have been in their position for several years. However, the days of having hard-nosed, tough coaches has become a thing of the past. The number of lifetime coaches vs the number of 2-4 year coaches is only about 10%. It's unfortunate that you can't just tell people the truth. My personal belief is that parents make terrible coaches because they have an altered view of their children's actual ability.

Next Level: Is it Legal or Not
13sports replied to BasketballInsider37604's topic in Girls Basketball
I disagree. Practice in July is legal. -
How did the new coach look with his team this summer? Any thoughts to this point? Is 90Warrior correct or just blowing smoke? Somebody post the update.

Who are the candidates that are "quality, winning coaches" that WANT the job at Portland? BTW, why not put this on the girls board (unless you already have)?
-
I love it when people "put you down." Chickie just adds fuel to the fire and every good argument needs an agitator. Can you imagine how it will be if they win something besides a district regular season or tournament. SC has had some unbelievable talent come through (Jenkins and Malone to name a couple), but thank goodness no great play-off runs yet. I know they are a relatively new school, but so is Wilson Central. I say "let it roll chickie." It keeps everyone else on their toes,

GWAVE1, proof of residency has always been required by Sumner County Schools. Nothing will change in this area. Some people will still be able to slide by and others will not. There are several scenarios that have happened in the last few years where residency needed to be proved. However, there is not an unbiased person to prove it too. Rules are one thing, enforcement is another. A few pages back on this thread, BigChief stated that he was certain that the school located between Hendersonville and Gallatin had an athlete that lived in Davidson County and he knew where. Do you think that will change? I doubt it, as many people believe that the board members in that area are the most powerful in the county and more than likely calling the shots. In other words, "all things being equal, all things will never be equal."
-
True. There is no limit to the number of practices in the summer. They can't practice during the dead period and they can have ten days of school vs school competition during the month of June, prior to the dead period.

When you have the law on your side, quote the law. When you have the facts on your side, state the facts. When you have neither, "pound the table and make a scene." Time will tell which of these is true.

Has anyone been named as the new head coach at Kenwood? What about West Creek?
-
You can call it what you want, but the student has attended 5 schools now (including Beech) in the last 4 years (counting the middle schools). Looks like a 6th is a probability.

Would have thought the team picked to dominate 9AAA would be better at this point. A one score win over a team that was 1-9 last year and got outscored 328-51 on the season might show some cause for concern.
