  1. Yes. There is a gas station called Woody's nearby that has really good hot dogs. There is also a popular restaurant called Windy City Grille on 411 near William Blount Drive. Visitors also enjoy our concession stand as well.
  2. I don't know anything about Clinton's team this year, but I know y'all are capable of having a good team. I'm also aware that WB seems to have terrible luck when it comes to scheduling non-region opponents (I.E. Anderson County bounced back and was one of the best teams in 4A when we played them). And another example of this is Morristown East flipping the script from 1-9 to 9-1 when we played them in 2013. The Govs seem to have some hype coming into this season. We have a pretty good qb, a few nice skill players, a really good kicker, and (allegedly) a big nasty line that can push defenses down field. We also have added some well-respected coaches on both sides of the ball. From what I gather, most people seem to think the Govs should have a winning record - as our schedule is more favorable than any schedule I've seen since I have followed WB football - and we have a talented and experienced team. Some people think we could even challenge for the top spot in Region 1 6A. I'm personally not going that far, but I think we have a good shot at having our first winning season since '07. Having said all that, I'm feeling a little less optimistic after hearing that we got blanked by Bearden in a scrimmage last night and turned the ball over 4 times in the process. That ain't gonna get it done in 6A football. The first game against Clinton will give us a good idea of how this season will go. If we come out and get in a sloppy battle of the cellar dwellers than we'll be in trouble and staring down another losing season even if we come out winners in that scenario. In my opinion, the Govs should win this game if we have any hope of having a winning record and being a factor in our region.
  3. It may sound cliche, but you get what you pay for. People complain about the quality of smaller newspapers, but people don't want to pay for newspapers either. Newspapers are practically giving away online access to their articles these days. It also doesn't help that journalists make peanuts. Any journalist who is talented eventually moves on to a bigger market so they can actually make a living. Small newspapers have a real problem keeping quality reporters for the long haul. It's a real problem that doesn't have any easy solutions.
  4. After reading the 5 Star Preps article I don't feel quite so bad. One of our top receivers wasn't playing as a receiver and they were limiting what the QB could do by design. You always hear the cliche "It's just a scrimmage" but I think that's nonsense. Scrimmages give you an idea of what kind of team you have and you want to look up to par against good competition. In short, getting blanked by Bearden isn't a good look. We'll have a better picture when Clinton comes to WB in a few weeks.
  5. I heard the same thing from someone else. Sounds like more of the same. Bearden is not a good team right now, so it looks like it will be another sub .500 year for the Govs.
  6. I'm not talking about people on CoachT. I'm talking about coaches and ADs that have social media accounts but don't put that information out there. You'd think stuff like that would definitely be on the agenda, but all too often those important details get glossed over.
  7. I'm excited for the first game against the Dragons. Can't wait to host you guys at WB in a few weeks!
  8. The Govs are supposed to be having a scrimmage against Bearden today, but I can't get the time or place from anybody. It's inexcusable in this age of social media not to have that information out there. I'm not just harping on WB either. Bearden football's Twitter didn't post the time and place either. What's the point of being on social media if you aren't sharing information like that with your supporters?
  9. The Columbia blue uniforms are back
  10. I haven't seen a thread for the Hawks, so I thought I would make one. How do you guys think HVA will do this year? I saw a picture of the senior class and it is big in size and numbers.
  11. If you'll recall the 2016 game where WB beat DB in Kingsport, WB had a really good receiver who torched the Indians until he got injured in the second quarter. That's not a knock on DB because he did that to everyone except Maryville and Alcoa, although he did have a highlight reel TD catch against Alcoa. Any way, that kid who smoked defenses and looked like the fastest kid on the field a few times and usually at least close to the fastest was timed at around a 4.7 in high school.
  12. You're misinformed if you think 4.7 is the average speed for skill guys in high school. Everyone knows that high school 40 times aren't accurate. You only get accurate times in college and the NFL when they are actually laser timed. If you watch the best college receivers being timed for the NFL draft a lot of those guys get timed in the 4.6 or 4.7 range. So yeah, 4.7 is average in the NFL scouting combine. I think it's safe to say there is more speed in the NFL than there is in East Tennessee high school football, but what do I know.
  13. He wouldn't say anything to anyone's face. Barney is very passive aggressive. That is kind of his whole thing.
  14. How can that happen with schools like Alcoa getting all the players and playing in 3A with a 6A roster?
  15. You're more passive aggressive than anyone I've ever seen. Do all those people you know through your work know you can't make a post on CoachT without making some underhanded comment about William Blount football? You are the most two-faced individual I have ever seen. I have seen how you are since the South Doyle scrimmage a few years ago. You came up and talked to me and acted all nice and then you got on CoachT the next day and made a passive aggressive comment about me. That's kind of your whole thing.
  16. Says the guy who supposedly supports all the county schools. Yet you never have anything positive to say.
  17. The same could be said about Maryville or Alcoa fans anytime someone asks why they aren't going out and playing top notch teams from other areas. Pepvol never posts, but posts like that are guaranteed to bring him out of hibernation.
  18. I agree with everything you said except about Cleveland, McMinn, and Bradley. WB has beaten Cleveland and McMinn in recent years and we had a real chance of beating Bradley Central last year. So it's not completely accurate to say WB hasn't been competitive with those teams. The fact is WB has closed the gap with the decent to good teams they play. Obviously, the 2020 Cleveland game is a notable exception. That was an awful game for the Govs.
  19. Barney, You have a way of arguing and proving everyone else's point. The portion of your post that I quoted is a good example of this. What you say is true, but that information doesn't say what you think it says. It's true that WB will end up playing Maryville if they do well and get into the playoffs. So what's the problem? Don't you think it would be a better game if WB came into the game with some confidence and momentum after having a good season? Wouldn't that be better than another regular season mercy rule? And if WB were to tank and not make the playoffs or get beat before they play Maryville than they won't play them and that would save us all from another boring game.
  20. Exactly. And last year's records don't mean squat. I remember when WB scheduled a Morristown East team that was coming off a 1-9 season and they went 9-1 and beat us the year we played them. I also remember us getting flak for scheduling a "down" Anderson County team and they were one of the best teams in their class the years we played them and beat us both times. And we also scheduled Elizabethton. To suggest WB dodges people and looks for easy wins is comical. It also irks me that Barney is always badmouthing WB and will say he supports all the county schools when It's very obvious that he doesn't.
  21. Hey guys, I got your card this evening. Thanks so much! It means a lot. I hope everyone had a good Christmas.
  22. Some of my favorite stadiums in East Tennessee in no particular order are: Soddy Daisy Bradley Central Cleveland Rhea County Oak Ridge Sevier County Jefferson County Greeneville Science Hill Dobyns Bennett Morristown's Burke-Toney Stadium
  23. I got the call that she passed away less than an hour ago.
