  1. Rivalry pranks, eh? Boone pulled a good one on D-B. For you non-Tri cities fans that would be Daniel Boone (5A) vs. Dobyns Bennett (6A). Or as we locals like to say, little db vs. Big DB. Anyway, in 2009 Boone pulled the ultimate prank and won the game. Kudos to the Blazers!! Now let's see, in October of 2027 this prank will be pulled again.
  2. I think this really brings up a bigger picture of local sports media. Let's face it, very few people read the newspaper to learn about the Vols or the Titans. That stuff is all over the internet and that is where the majority of people go. But local newspapers could dramatically increase their circulation if they devoted a majority of the sports section to high school sports. And in this case I guess just general city sports as well. I would certainly subscribe to the paper if that was the case.
  3. Yep, I hear ya no way Boone makes the playoffs this year. Boone has an awesomely tough schedule that will prevent them from qualifying. If they had instead played all cupcakes then they would make the playoffs but get tossed in the 1st round.. So perhaps it's not who you play against but who you are that really defines your team. Looking forward to coming to the castle on Oct 18. Vikes will win the game but it's a great atmosphere nonetheless
  4. Ha-ha, that could be. But you will be happy happy happy this time, South wins 44-13
  5. Indians, you better bring your A-game to Ooltewah, from what I hear the Owls do not give a "hoot" about your tradition. NOW COME ON, YOU GOTTA ADMIT THAT WUZ FUNNYYYYYYYYYYYY
  6. Boone does indeed have good concessions. Freshly grilled hamburgers, you can smell them cooking all over Gray, Mmmmmmmm. And don't forget the weekly white styrofoam cup signs on the fence facing 75. Last week's was a classic vs. Volunteer (Miss Kay's Diner: Roast Falcon: Happy, Happy, Happy). Oh yeah, while you're getting your hamburger @ the concession stand be sure to order a shot of Booneshine. Don't worry, it's legal and it won't hurt you. Looking forward to a great game this Fri
  7. Right on Same thing with Boone, they have South/DB/G'ville/TN Hi/SH in a row, so the Blazers should easily cruise to the 5A title after that run. Teams that get smacked down week in and week out eventually just give up. Real character test coming up for the Vols and Blazers alike.
  8. You're right, Boone just gave up the 2nd half of that game, but you guys still had a way better team. Boone is very well coached but the coaches can't get on the field and do it for them. South has way too much speed and athleticism, not sure how it will play out but South wins this one easily. That EHS/South game in week 10 will be a barn burner for sure!
  9. Have not seen the Owls this year, saw DB only once vs Sevier County. Owls avg 41 points per game so you cannot let them get way out in front early and then try to play catch up. Best of luck from a Blazer fan
  10. We are very close on our score predictions, although we got there from completely different scenarios. And I agree that these two really get after each other. South is just way too stacked this year.
  11. Ok let's get this one started. SOUTH: 5-0 record | Outscored opponents 224-69 | signature win: vs. Tennessee High BOONE: 3-1 record | been outscored 80-73 | signature win: ??? GAME: Boone always has trouble with a spread offense like South runs, plus Boone just does not play very well the first half. South will jump out to an early 20 point lead, then Boone will spend the 2nd half chipping away at it, bottom line is South wins 44-13. Congratulations Rebels, hope you go far in 4A this year.
  12. Batman - that is a great idea, and there is actually precedent to this. Last year Hampton and Johnson County met twice in the regular season. Would be great to see a DB/SH matchup a couple of times each year. And imagine the revenue that would generate...
  13. So the conventional wisdom goes something like this: you play against better competition in order to get better yourself. This is the standard argument (and perhaps rightfully so) to explain how certain unnamed Tri-cities teams can dominate locally, get the fan base all excited (“this is finally the year!!!!â€), and then get smashed in the playoffs year after year. So let’s look at a recent scenario and see if our premise holds true. Crockett had back to back games with Science Hill, Elizabethton and Dobyns Bennett (yikes!). Crockett lost all 3 games by a combined score of 203-28. Crockett had a run against far superior teams, the best in the Tri-cities (South fans, you’re the best too, just haven’t played Crockett in our little scenario, so don’t get huffy..) So Crockett should be so good now, after having played such awesome competition, that they are going to win out by an avg score of 38-13 and go deep into the 5A playoffs. Crockett fans, nothing personal here, this just seems to be a good example to illustrate our premise. BTW Boone gets 5 back to back games starting next week with South/DB/Greeneville/TN High/Science Hill. Based on our opening premise, Boone will be so good at the end of this run that they will be in Cookeville on Dec 6 representing 5A. Gold ball, welcome home to Gray, TN. Ok, a lot of tongue-in-cheek stuff above, but how about it, does playing better competition REALLY make you better?
  14. Agreed, this is good info. Actually I am ready for any Tri-cities team to make it to Cookeville. We may scrap amongst ourselves during the reg season, but if DB, SH, South, whoever made it to Cookeville then I imagine there would be a big host of Tri-cities natives from all schools headed down to cheer them on
  15. Guys, guys, guys ..... can we just agree that DB and South have both had some great teams over the years? Greeneville is the only semi-Tri cities team that has made it past the KML (Knoxville Magic Line)
  16. Depends on if we are winning.... In 2009 when Boone beat Tenn High in round 2 I went deaf for a while afterwards. Perhaps we should modify this thread to include: which school has the most redneck student section. But alas, that would do nothing but start internet flame wars.
  17. Good point, and if the Toppers need any other reason about not letting off the gas then watch the video below. DB vs. Sevier County, 2nd round of 2011 playoffs. DB is up 28-0 with 2 minutes to go in the 3rd. Watch the video if you want to see how it ends http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddjlQiaOBWM
  18. Ha ha... no, you are 100% right, Elizabethton probably passes 5 times per game. And why not, they can run over about anybody. Siegel will throw the kitchen sink at SH, I'm sure they feel like they have something to prove as well. Hope someone videos the game and uploads it to youtube
  19. One last thing, the crystal ball says forget about PAT's, lots of going for 2. Going to take a lot of points to win this one
  20. Elizabethton is not a good offense? Oh you meant a good 6A offense. Wait a sec, SH has yet to play a 6A team this season, Siegel will be the first. This will be the game of the week in the entire state. Too bad it is in middle TN, they could pack out Topper stadium by 5:30. I'm going to say SH wins it by 3 points in a shootout/track meet.
  21. Right on, but please also play only freshmen on Oct 4 vs. Boone, that at least gives us a fightun chance !!!
  22. DB could make up plays on the dirt in the huddle and still win this game
  23. year in and year out, DB could drop 90 on almost all the tri-cities teams every game, but they CHOOSE not to do that.
  24. You make a very compelling argument, well said (er uh typed........) I really wish something could happen in week 10 though. We are going to have an undefeated Sullivan South taking on a 8-1 Elizabethton team, DB vs. SH, and then there's the classic Musket Bowl. I WANT TO SEE ALL 3 OF THESE GAMES !!!!! T'aint fair, it just aint fair. Why can't we have at least one of these on Thursday night??
