  1. It would be nice to see if he could turn the program around. Boone loses to DB 95% of the time so it doesn't matter to the Blazers one way or the other. Assuming he didn't get squashed by the culture I would be willing to bet he beats Science Hill the 1st year.
  2. Even if it's true the Tri-cities big schools do NOT have the culture to support a championship football program. Could GQ go against the powers that be and change that? Maybe but it would be an uphill battle.
  3. I know for a fact that Boone has athletes walking the halls every year, since DB is over twice Boone's size there is no doubt a plethora of athletes is left on the table every season. I would venture to say that all Tri-cities 5A & 6A schools are that way. What would it take to get those guys out onto the field.... String together a couple of deep playoff runs? Getting a couple of signature wins (games in which you are an underdog) each season?? I don't know for sure but as they say, Winning breeds winning. Elizabethton & Greeneville figured it out
  4. If that's all your wife gets mad at you about then count yourself very lucky, haha
  5. This is from an outsider looking in, so keep that in mind..... From what I have been able to see Oakland just basically lines up and runs the ball right at you for 4 quarters. Not trying to act like an NFL throw-it-60x type of offense. Upperman apparently does the same thing and ran all over Greeneville last night. My opinion, and that's all it is, is that too much emphasis is placed on HS teams trying to run a spread NFL offense with complicated schemes and routes, instead of focusing on doing the basic fundamentals better than all the other teams you play. It can be done at the HS level for sure, but year-in & year-out very few schools have the skillsets necessary to successfully live and die on a NFL offense. Now maybe that only works with the right personnel, i.e., O-line that averages 290 plus a group of tough hard-nosed RB's who are not afraid of collision. Plus, let's face it, 5 yards & a cloud of dust is a rather boring offensive scheme, so could it be that egos demand looking like a mini NFL team? Whatever your view on this, keep in mind that Oakland & Upperman are in their respective title games next week while the rest of us are out Christmas shopping.
  6. That last PF just cost Oakland 3 points. Can't believe a team at this level would play with such a lack of discipline
  7. Wow, so many PF's on Oakland... They have a good lead but man you can't be doing that in a game like this
  8. Is that a result of superior coaching or better athletes?
  9. Only listening on the radio, but it sounds like Oakland is not doing anything fancy, just lining up and running it forward
  10. Someone who is at the game.... Is Upperman the real deal? Looks like it's tied in the 2nd Q
  11. Same, only exception is I'm going with Oakland in a close one.
  12. To be fair, that night it only rained on Upperman's side of the field, the opponent's side was bone dry, so the Upperman complaint stands....... next! ......... (heh-heh)
  13. Thanks man, I was afraid that was the case. Let's all be praying for him.
  14. Have not seen BVD's online presence in a while, is he okay? Will he be at this game?
  15. DB is a subset of what has been discussed here: To your point, I agree that in some years DB has the athletes to take it all the way. 2011 & 2012 comes to mind but those closer to the program could maybe point to other seasons as well. And here's the unknown factor but I am going to take a stab at it anyway... If DB ever got serious about championship football you would find there are fantastically genetically gifted athletes roaming the halls who would start to play. I mean come on, out of 2500 students you can't tell me there aren't some great athletes who never step foot on the field. The bad news is that it is very unlikely to change in the foreseeable future. If there is any good news it's that the other five 5A/6A Tri-cities teams are in the same boat, most will be one-and-done when the playoffs start year after year, and if anyone happens to get a win in the 1st round the Knox County line is a barrier that will not be crossed.
  16. Interesting to see your response, this is something I have been pondering for a while (not necessarily in a football sense but in a broader way, still the concept is the same)
  17. I think all of us have been rebels against the T$$AA at one time or another
  18. Sorry man, hate you guys are going through that. It seems to hit certain school systems from time to time.
  19. This is NOT trolling, just asking this as an outsider...... Do you Maryville people think that after Quarles left the school system has gotten too woke and football has suffered? In other words, it's not the coaching as much as it is the culture that has Maryville in a rut?
