  1. The South Pitt RB Lankford won't have to share carries this year and should put up some crazy numbers. He had a breakout Soph year two years ago when Johnson was out, but he had to share carries with Johnson last year. He should be in the conversation.
  2. Congrats to the Bradley Bears. Region 3AAA Champions!
  3. It's a shame that CSAS was beaten by Grace in the District tourney, because they are for sure a top two team in the Region. But, that is tournament basketball and that is why they play the game. Grace won when it counted.
  4. Not to mention that 3 guys getting considerable playing time at McCallie are from Cleveland.
  5. Part of what happened was that the 5aaa championship game was the 3 vs 4 seed since they upset the 1 & 2 seeds (Cleve & Ooltewah) who went on the road. Nobody would be shocked if Cleve & Ooltewah won in the semi's. But... Go Bears!!!
  6. Who always swept the regionals? How many region championships in the last 20 years?
  7. I agree with these. Grace (Knox) is probably the favorite, but Marion Co will be very good. Boyd lost almost everybody, except their outstanding QB, but they should be ready by playoff time. Silverdale is one additional team you can throw into that group of top teams. They only lost 3 seniors. Definitely more parity than in the past two years with Boyd and FCS being head and shoulders above all other teams (and throwing in Grace Knox last year).
  8. Boyd & CSAS are the two best teams. Boyd seems to be peaking at the right time. I'll go with Boyd.
  9. Cleveland impressed me tonight. A very athletic team, and they have some shooters too. If they host the Region, they certainly have a chance to beat Cookeville. First round game against a pretty strong White County team is no gimme, but playing at home will be a huge help.
  10. enjoyed watching the Bradley Cleveland game online tonight. Thanks for streaming. For those interested, #3 seed Bradley boys beat #2 seed Cleveland pretty soundly and #4 Walker Valley upset #1 Ooltewah. I heard it was a last second half court shot that won it for Walker Valley, but not 100% sure on that. Bradley & Cleveland I believe had the same record, so that wasn't a huge upset, but WV beating Ooltewah was a surprise. WV and the Bears may be peaking at the right time.
  11. Coach, Thanks for posting all this. It is unfortunate that some people don't understand what a 'prediction' is.
  12. Wow. No seniors. They are a very good team. Very quick & they play hard.
  13. Cleveland has had a lot of success over the years, but what brought them back to the elite level was hiring Heath Eslinger and just as vital was Heath's hiring of Eric Phillips as the MS coach at CHS, and Heath's formation (along with Coach Al Morris of Walker Valley) of the Higher Calling Wrestling Club as a kids club. Walker Valley has since started their own kids club, but they actually started Higher Calling together. Before that, Bradley had the only kid's club in town and most all the young wrestlers (many who were sons of former Bradley and Cleveland wrestlers) were in the Bradley club and ended up at Bradley. Hiring Heath was the first step, but if he hadn't gotten lucky and found Eric Phillips (which is another story that someone can tell better than me) and started the kids club, they probably aren't where they are today. Also, FWIW, Heath and Eric Phillips are better people than they are wrestlers or wrestling coaches and they are obviously two of the best coaches in the state of TN.
  14. With a healthy McKamy, I think Grace-Knox would be a safe #3. If they played A'ville without him, it's probably pretty even. Grace lost to 3a Champ CAK by one touchdown with him, so I'm not really convinced that they don't have at least a chance to win it all if he was healthy.
  15. What is this mess? Pegleg & PowerP better not have made that Grider man mad! You think I'm joking, but I'm not!
  16. And, for what it's worth, I'd put Adamsville & Knox Grace as the early favorites to get to the 2013 finals, but I'm sure Marion Co, Boyd & others will be up there as well.
  17. The sad thing is that I went to the FCS and Boyd game (I'm from Chattanooga area, but not affiliated with Boyd) and sat on the FCS side and milled around with FCS folks at halftime. They are really good people. I saw nothing on the sidelines from players or coaches that bothered me. Good coaches, good kids. They just have one really immature person on here with diarrhea of the mouth and a couple others that aren't really that bad, but they (mostly he) really do give a fine school (from what I can tell) a bad reputation with the rest of the whole state. I'm guessing if their administration or Board had any idea he was acting like this on there, they would ask him to stop. Just a lot of immaturity. I will say after watching them play. They are the best team in 2a. Congrats to a great team.
  18. Just my opinion here on the best 10 teams, but I haven't seen a few of these teams play. See brief commentary below as well. 1. FCS 2. Boyd Buchanan 3. Grace Christian (Knox) 4. Adamsville 5. Oneida 6. Marion County 7. Silverdale 8. Rockwood 9. Dresden 10. Peabody or Hampton? Comments: 1-3, I honestly think that Boyd at full speed (Hale, Hardin, Cardwell) and Grace at full speed (McKamy) both would be very competitive with FCS, but they weren't healthy and the results speak for themselves. I don't think anyone can say that FCS isn't the best team or didn't deserve the Championship. 4. I'm slotting Adamsville here on the basis of making the finals. Their kids should hold their head high and be proud of making it to the finals. Most of us old guys on here never made it that far. They deserve to say that they are state finalists and no one can take it away from them. 5.-9 These teams are all probably mostly very equally good and all could probably argue that they are a top 5 team. -Oneida played Boyd close, so that's why I'm slotting them here, although Silverdale has a higher rating on the Sonny Moore Power rankings (by the end of the season, these turned out to be fairly accurate). You can also say the same about Rockwood. -Marion County led FCS early and probably had the FCS fans as scared as any playoff team (after Cardwell was hurt in Q2 of the Boyd game when it was 14-6). Their coach did a great job turning around a 1-9 program, and the kids did a great job of responding and buying in to the new coach. -Silverdale played Grace to 28-20 (without McKamy), and both teams had other players knicked up. But it was close in the 4th quarter and Silverdale definately had an opportunity to tie it up at the end. If their QB hadn't hurt his ankle when Silverdale led 7-0 (crutches for a week after the game) and had his scrambling ability, they certainly have a chance to win. -Rockwood could also argue that they played Boyd close (although I think Boyd was up big early and let them back in in the 4th Q. With their record of 6-5 it's hard to slot them much higher, although they played as tough a schedule as anyone. They could easily convince me that they are 5th. - Dresden got beat bad by a A'ville team that got beat bad in the biggest game of the season. Can they play with 5-8. It is very likely, but it's hard to argue, given the scores of the games that put the above teams out of the playoffs. 10. - I don't know anything about Peabody, except they were beat soundly by Dresden. They do have a high Sonny Moore Power ranking, so they get the last spot, but I really have no idea. -Hampton listed because they probably would have played a better game against Silverdale with all their players, however, I don't know that for sure. Any team misses their QB, but their defense gave up 41 points, so we'll never know how much difference that made. I'm sure people will point out where I erred, but I just thought it would be interesting to respectfully discuss this. Probably a dumb question, but does the AP put out a final top 10?
