  1. Your 100% right, something behind the scenes has had to happen, you don't leave because you see a bump in the road coming up. The entire system in Monroe County is a total dumpster fire and at one time Sweetwater managed through it okay but the dam finally broke on them last year. We all know how the principal got her position there and so on and so forth. I don't have to repeat myself if you read my last post. The people involved with last years fiasco should be ashamed themselves but they'll just shake it off like nothing ever happened and get ready to micromanage the new coach. Before I would move into that situation I would have came up the road another 35-40 miles and applied for one of the openings in the Knoxville area and with a 12-1 record the coach would have found a decent job somewhere.
  2. Who teaches toilet paper math at Maryville, asking for a friend.
  3. Surprised but not surprised they found them a decent coach but I guess with in a lot of diffucult situations it never fails someone pops up and says "Here Hold My Beer". If that were me taking that job those assistants would have to hit the road and the parents that created this mess have two choices , keep your pie hole shut or stay at home on Friday Night. All I can say is good luck in putting this dumpster fire out and if you don't that will be two coaches in a row that gave up a lot to get nothing in return.
  4. I still have a lot of good memories and really want the best for this program, Had the best times going to places I had never been and opened my eyes to a lot of the smaller schools. Won't ever forget.
  5. Was hoping they may pick up a good defensive coach that is available but what do I know about football only been a season ticket holder of the winningest program in the State of Tennessee for all my life besides the ones I played there. If your defense is bad you'll be in for a rough ride
  6. A good day for all Maryville Fans to wear your Red Rebel attire and eat plenty of Blackeye Peas.
  7. I've done so mush research on East Tennessee of the schools that are now gone I may make a thread on these schools and what happened to them, I think it would be very interesting for most of the folks that enjoy the culture and hopefully some will ad to it on what they know.
  8. Everett Bulldogs, Walland Indians and Townsend Tigers last year was in 1976 football season before closing to go into Heritage. In 1979 William Blount opened taking in Friendsville Falcons, Lanier Eagles while about 350 or so were moved from Heritage that would have been zoned for WB and a school 2 miles away Porter Panthers was fed into Heritage to offset the ones going to WB. There was such a bitter rival between Walland and Porter I'm pretty sure that was the safest way to put them together after the rivalry was gone and done with. Madisonville Tornadoes and Vonore Blue Devils last year was the in1994 and both were pathetic in football as you could get it and a big reason Sequoyah has been so bad. There were many times it was so bad at Vonore only 10-12 came out for football and they had to go out and beg kids to play to avoid throwing in the towel and not having a team that season and all the coaches they had would quit after one season to get out of that mess. That's one big reason Sweetwater was 2-8, Sequoyah 2-8 and Tellico was 1-9. Monroe County is one big mess led by a pack of idiots.
  9. Can you imagine today's parent trying to over throw King Berrong because their freshman son was better than Kippy Brown in their opinion.
  10. Bradley also had a real good girl's basketball coach at that time. I had a lot of good friends that played for Everett and that was the only game they would lose.
  11. A new year is upon us and we need to be ready to take the plunge for 2024.
  12. THis was an article in the Knoxville News-Sentinel November 7 1965. They sure treat their coach there a lot differently today.
  13. That was a good rundown on how it all came to be on Walker Valley. If you don't ask questions time flies and eventually there won't be anyone to ask. Back when I was in school Bradley had a girl named Data Caldwell if I remember right and she was 6-4 or 5 and they were unbeatable. Still remember watching them and the Everett Girls play a couple of times.
  14. Had to be a spill over from Bradley or possibly Cleveland, there were no other schools closed that went into Walker Valley.
  15. I remember Walker Valley when the school began back in 2001 and it took in Charleston High School but where else did students come from because they were just a small 1A school and Walker Valley is a 5A school right now.
  16. Sounds like Greenback has a real live Ernest T. Bass on their hands coming to the basketball games.
  17. Bob Polston passed away back in 2011. He had a two great assistant coaches in Joel Helton who went on to coach Knox Central for 27 years and Don Ward who took over after Bob retired after the 1978 season for 11 years and also was head coach at South Doyle 9 years.
  18. Speaking of DB, I just ran in to Coach Ted Wilson at Walmart in Alcoa just a few minutes ago. Believe it or not he had on a Dobyns Bennett jacket. I actually spent a couple hours with him out at his house last week and he told me a lot of great things and how blessed he was to have taken that job and how well everyone treated him. He told me he was looking for the paint machine to line the field off when he was up there and he was trying to find out where it was and the superintendent came by and told him you don't do that job here we've got somebody else that does that for you. He also told me when he applied for that job they gave him a figure and he told them that was only $3,000 more than he was making at Maryville and he didn't think he could move his family up there for that and a couple hours later they called back and added another 10,000 and he took the job. He had a hip replacement and they had to go in two times after because it didn't go well but he is out and doing well for a man that's 89 or 90 year old.
  19. The coach that resigned at Hardin Valley. Was Oak Ridge D.C. before taking the HVA job.
  20. Someone needs to let Chick-fil-A know they accidentally killed one of their roosters last season trying to keep up with demand at the football games.
  21. Last year I watched them and Carter play on TV and I'm surprised the coach finally put in the all star basketball player at QB and almost pulled it off. How could a coach not know he had a better second string QB. It was like night and day difference. I would do what ever it took to get Stevens back there.
  22. Hope he gets it. Very hard to win at Brushy Mountain for any coach.
