  1. What happened in the Lexington/Adamsville series? I know that McNairy Central, Chester County, and Scotts Hill all swept their opponents, Riverside, South Side, and North Side. Next week: Riverside/Lexington, Chester County/McNairy Central, North Side/Adamsville, and Scotts Hill/South Side will be the pairings.
  2. If Penny is not ready, then when will he be ready? I think he'll be fine. Am I expecting Memphis to be a "blue-blood" school? No. But he'll automatically make Memphis better than what Tubby did. And the fans will be engaging, therefore, the athletic department will receive more revenue money and they don't have to worry about paying that $800,000 dollars to the Memphis Grizzlies and FedEx Forum because of a lack of attendance.
  3. I will say this, I looked at the TSSAA's twitter and looked at foul and free throw separation. I do have to give the officials some benefit of the doubt, they did try to keep it somewhat even. However, in the Cheatham County/Macon County game, CCHS had 21 team fouls that went against them, while Macon County had 12. The free throw total was +21 for Macon County. Unaka had 19 team fouls, while Summertown had 9. Free throw differential favored Summertown by 13. Summertown won the game by 13 by the way. Westview had 21 team fouls, to Macon County 12. Macon County had +11 in the free throw differential, and won the game by 5. Those are 3 games that officials could play a role. But that is always a state to look at. I understand teams play different styles, some are more aggressive than others. But if you felt like you got robbed, take a look at the team foul/free throw differential.
  4. TSSAA can't do anything about it because if they do and set a higher standard for officials, then you'll see officials that'll say "F this" and will quit. I don't buy into the whole "shortage of officials" thing. However, there will be a lot of officials that'll get butt hurt and will quit, and will leave the TSSAA hanging. That's how I personally feel. I will say this, those 3 officials and the state has received a lot of scrutiny as they should, but the next wave of officials that are having the opportunity to call the boys state tournament, is in a whole lot of pressure.
  5. It's unfortunate that officiating has caused an impact on this game. But, it's even more frustrating that the state supervisor(s) at the game will tell the officials "Good job, one fan base is not happy, while the other is happy." I don't know what occurred in the state tournament. All I did was watched is highlights of Jamirah Shutes going off, and proving to the media that she was robbed of a Miss Basketball. I mean, she did score 40+ points in 3 straight games. And, I also watched the 2nd half of the Greenfield win over Summertown. We have to held our officials to a higher standard, and do whatever it takes to improve the quality of officiating. But, just like players and coaches, officials choke whenever the lights are turned on. However, I am not a fan off seeing a team in the double bonus in a high school game. That's all.
  6. I will say this about the Huntingdon fans that want to get rid of Lowery. North Side records from 2003-2018 2003-04: 26-3 2004-05: 24-3 2005-06: 32-2 2006-07: 29-3 2007-08: 22-4 2008-09: 17-7, don't believe this year was accurate. 2009-10: 27-3 2010-11: 21-6 2011-12: 14-11 2012-13: 13-20 2013-14: 14-15 2014-15: 7-20 2015-16: 0-22 2016-17: 1-20 2017-18: 3-21 I don't know exactly when Lowery left North Side to go back to Huntingdon. I think it happened after the 2008-09 season. However, I will say this, be careful what you wish for.
  7. Sometimes, the environment inside the Murphy Center scares players away. They're used to seeing a white brick wall behind the basketball goal, with people sitting on the left and right of them. Now, they are in a legit arena with students behind the goals, two Jumbotron scoreboards, shot clocks above the goals, and the lighting inside the Murphy Center has changed from years past. If I am not mistaken, South Side was undefeated rolling into Murfreesboro last year, and lost in the first round. That's the same for Westview as well, I believe. Huntingdon wasn't the only team that laid an egg in Murfreesboro last year.
  8. If you're a high school coach having to teach fundamentals, then your girls are entering the high school level poorly developed. Now, do the Lowery's teach fundamentals? I bet they do, but they shouldn't be primarily focus to fundamentals when that's what middle school ball is exactly for. Developing players.
  9. I am not blaming the officials at all because the jobs they have in postseason basketball in February, is tough already. However, there probably should've been an official that looked at the scoreboard in those situations. When the play is dead for an upcoming free throw, take a glance at the clock to view the amount of time remaining and the score. If both free throw goes in and the scoreboard operator doesn't put the 2 points on the board, let the next play roll and when that play is finished and the operator still didn't put the 2 points on the board, that's when you kill the play and have a come to Jesus meeting with the scoreboard operator. In addition to all of that, why can't we have a TSSAA basketball referee that is off but is "available" to work, work the scorebook or even be the scoreboard operator for a night? It's not the hardest job to do at all. I understand the TSSAA can't prove that it was cheating, even thought the video proved it. Needless to say, the scoreboard operator at LEAD should be fired.
  10. they will stay in their own yard and hires Defensive Coordinator, Steve Robinson.
  11. To me, District 14-AA is by far the toughest district in all of West Tennessee, and could potentially be the toughest in the state. Unlike years past, there is something to play for in the regular season. Which team gets the #1 seed will be the host for the whole district tournament, while the team that gets the #2 seed will host a game in the first round. So there's something to play for, which I like. To me, I think Scotts Hill will be a favorite, but I don't think it'll be a clear cut favorite. They obviously have the tools and the players (primarily seniors) have established a winning culture. I was at the district tournament last year in Parsons and noticed Riverside had 10 player banners on one of their buildings behind the 3rd base dugout. Did they lost 10 seniors? I say that because teams normally have those banners for Seniors and Seniors only. If it's not 10, I maybe off a little, but it's a lot. Needless to say, Riverside getting Raleigh Odle will help. I think they'll be fine. Lexington is the team that hurt a lot. Losing Tylan Johnson, Raleigh Odle, Gilliam, and Drager hurts this team. Honestly, this might be a down year for the Tigers. However, I know Coach Harrington's teams will be extremely competitive, and will fight to win games. But how many? Adamsville, a team that has surged in the past few years. But do they have in terms of depth? South Side will now have the Hardin twins being their number 1 and number 2 pitchers. After that is what worries me. Lineup wise, they may not have very much either. South Side could finish last. Chester County is in the same boat as South Side. Position players for Chester County will be okay. To me, what's after their number 1 pitcher? McNairy Central will be my dark horse. They might surprise some people, but might not. North Side is the intriguing team. Last year, they lost 1 senior starter, which was a first baseman. This year, they'll lose 1 senior starter. If that doesn't tell you how young this team was last year, then I don't know what will. From what I'm hearing, their number 1 is still up for grabs. The difference between their number 1 and number 2, is basically no difference (i.e. don't expect a drop off). They are still young, they are talented, they have depth in pitching and position players. Question is for this team, will they take a baby step or an adult step? Prediction: 1. Scotts Hill 2. Riverside 3. McNairy Central 4. North Side 5. Adamsville 6. Lexington 7. Chester County 8. South Side You can literally re-shuffle all 8 teams and I can see it finishing in that order. It's going to be a tough district. It's going to be an exciting district. The softball district will just as tough, if not, tougher. The softball district will not have the depth in terms of quality teams like baseball teams. Each Wednesday (if all teams play their district games on Monday & Tuesday) I will update the district standings. Feel free to beat me to it on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, I'll have no problem with that at all. Meanwhile, March 12 & 13 games Lexington will host Adamsville on the 12th, travel to the Cardinals on the 13th. Riverside at McNairy Central on the 12th, will host the Bobcats on the 13th. North Side will travel to Scotts Hill on the 12th, host the Lions on the 13th. Chester County will host South Side on the 12th, while travel to South Jackson on the 13th. Should be a fun district for baseball and softball.
  12. Crockett County by 15. The Tigers have checked-out this season. South Side by 25. Bulldogs can't handle. McNairy Central by 8. North Side by 6. I heard Robertson Jr. rolled his ankle in the game against South Side on Saturday I believe? But Dyersburg students will be nuts.
  13. I don't know how much Greenfield will lose other than Moore and Darby, but I would love to see this team play against Dyersburg, Westview, and/or South Side next year. They might win some of those games, might lose them as well. They're legit and they are unselfish. I just want to enjoy the ride for these two, they'll arguably go down as the best duo in West Tennessee girls history if they keep this pace going. Can't hate on them, especially for a small town like Greenfield. Truly special to watch.
  14. +1,000. If you have another game in the future, and you know your player will more then likely get the award at the next game, then sit the player and let her get the award at the next game. If I was a defensive player and a starter came back in a blowout game just to get an accomplishment knowing he/she has a game in the future, I'll foul the heck out of that player. Then I'll walk off the court knowing I sent a message.
  15. I know South Side has all the talent in Jackson for girls basketball. However, it is inexcusable for North Side girls to be this bad. Past administration has drove this program down to the well (talking about the water well outside of homes). They have won 3 games this year (all against Madison). This will now be the 4th straight season the Lady Indians have 20 losses, this will be the 6th straight year under .500. They're losing by an average of 25 points in losses this year, and they're scoring differential is in the -400's.
  16. Peabody had a little video that was posted on social media of having a little signing day for 8th their graders at a local middle school. Majority if not all the students at that middle school will go Peabody, and everybody knows it. That video is considered "recruiting" even though all those students would be going to Peabody if it wasn't for the video. Trenton is a "one school town" Everybody goes to the same elementary, middle, and high school.
  17. I would assume Chester County would make an attempt after Tab Vowell from Peabody. Yes, I have mentioned Vowell’s name in previous posts, but I was just kicking the tires. However, this is different. Prinicpial R. Catlett and Vowell we’re together for two seasons, one of them included a 10-0 regular season with a 5A semifinals appearance. They worked good together. They could potentially reunite. However, Chester County doesn’t have much time. Thursday is the first day of February. But take as much time to get the “right” hire. Meanwhile, this is a head scratcher for Hodum. Obviously, this would be a challenge for him and wish him nothing but the best. Fayette-Ware are automatically in the playoffs. The support from the community is okay, not the best, but have seen worse. They got some talent. Facilities will need to be a huge upgrade. Below average facilities. I do not expect Chester County to make the playoffs in 2018, even if Hodum was there. I do think North Side and Liberty just had bad years, and will reboundce. Chester County somehow lacks the talent compare to others in the region. However, Hodum did get the Eagles to a 10 win season, first ever region championship, and almost upsetted White House Heritage. Needless to say, Hodum did do a good job at Chester County. And I do believe the Chester County job is appealing.
  18. Have to agree. In addition, BPM always gives his/her opinions about the program, the town, and the expectation about Milan football, and he doesn't sugarcoat us either. He rarely trash talks (other than to Huntingdon fans), but he's pure class and spot on majority, if not, all the time.
