  1. "They just mad cause the talented ones are going to little brother " These talented ones you speak of figure it will be easier to win against smaller schools. Sounds kind of cowardly to me. They dont want to Play with the big boys
  2. I dont believe that was the tune trousdale was singing when they were switching classifications to avoid those "good coached" private school teams.
  3. Coach Clark is faced with running a program the way all programs should be run. Have a defined zone and only have kids from that defined zone play on your team. Nobody comin in from a different county to play. Nobody opting out of the bigger county school to play. No make believe work study to offer. when you play by the rules you will have good years and bad years,
  4. if you live in Ramer, You have to drive by Mcnairy to get to adamsville. Surely you can acknowledge the huge advantage Adamsville has by getting Football Players from all over the county. Or are you like the Union City folks that pretend they are just a little ol single A school doing things the right way. You both know the advantages you exploit and yet you both will complain about private schools that recruit. If NCS beats Adamsville or Union city this year they will cry all the way back to west tn about how NCS recruits. Private School recruiting is no different than open zone recruiting.
  5. The multiplier is 1.8 times your enrollment. i'm not sure but i think this would bump most up a class, but just moving them up anyway would be fine with me. Most privates are not at capacity so if you have an empty chair and can get some tuition, without hiring more staff then you benefit financially. even if you give it to them free but your school is more successful at athletics you will draw more payers to your school. I agree no reason for privates to stay except it is quite expensive to set up a governing board and administrative system to run athletics all over state. i dont know what the budget is for TSSAA but thats what privates would be faced with coming up with to start their own organization and the number of schools participating is a lot less than publics. if its no-holds-barred on recruiting i guarantee it will get worse
  6. Nashville Christian will be good but not for the reasons you say. its not Brothers coaching ability its his recruiting ability. My boys are in that district and we beat them 3 years ago with way less talent. If he cant out talent you he wont beat you. Sadly he is going to be able to out talent most folks. NCS lost their QB and Brothers seems to like to run lots of different plays, not just the ones that will work. The QB really made them go last year. If you dont have to fear the QB most of his stuff is predictable. But predictable or not you still have to stop their tailback that i guess will be even better this year. Hopefully BA will come get him one day but i doubt it, i think they can see through the smoke and mirrors hes got going . I dont know of another single A team that has 2 SEC recruits and he couldnt get that team to the final game. Union City wins it again
  7. I like this except it scares me to separate privates completely. with no rules for them their recruiting efforts will increase exponentially. everyone within an hours driving distance of a private will be fair game. at least now they have to do it on the down low which has to curtail it some
  8. D-1 Private schools are allowed to offer work study for up to half of tuition, the amount they qualify for is determined by the clearing house that TSSAA uses. The parents have to send their financial info including tax returns to this clearing house. Based on this info the clearing house determines how much of the tuition (up to half) that the student can work off. The school must cut the student a check for the hours worked then they return the money back to the school. You may think its silly to open the financial records but those same records are what is filed to qualify for the work study. The shady part of the equation is where does the other half of the tuition come from. The TSSAA has no way to verify that the other half was paid by the parents. If they are willing to release their records to qualify for work study they should be willing to release them to TSSAA to prove they paid the other half. If your kid is planning on going to college you have to file a FAFSA form , they dont think its silly
  9. i kind of agree, I know i would have picked the best opportunity for my child but i think to level playing field open zones and privates that give any aid should get multiplier. I'm not a Private fan but it just seems easy to throw rocks at them when many publics are abusing the system just like they are. .
  10. I would too, but it doesnt make it right. thats no different than saying if i lived in clarksville and The Academy was going to give me discounted or free tuition i would sure take it. the question is not whether you would or not but whether you should be allowed.
  11. Take a deep breath. Not sure you are able to read multiple posts by multiple people and accurately comment on it. why are you droning on about zip codes when they were never mentioned in any of my post. there are multiple people that comment on here, The zip code idea was not mine and has no correlation with school zones. But schools do have zones that are set by the county or city school board and usually have geographic or population significance. they use these zones to determine where kids attend school. And you have to abide by them. believe it or not this is not a novel idea and is done by some counties. metro nashville use to be very picky about this. And no , you're right the case isnt closed , cause next year SP will discover some 240 lb 14 year old at the Jasper Krystal and convince him to come on down to SP and play for a winner. (and please when you respond do it without referring to transfers or zip codes cause i have not mentioned either).
  12. Obviously nothing wrong with moving into a zone for the schools within that zone, its done everyday. There is no ONLY reason teams are successful. There are many reasons , of which one is they can pull from a much bigger talent pool than the teams they are playing. Why can everyone get on board to bash the privates, (who need it)_ but you dont want your advantage messed with. Biggest offenders in the system are the open zone schools, hands down. Look at state champion contenders every year. I could fix the system tomorrow if given chance. Publics - stick to your zoned area that is already established but not enforced. Privates - only play students that pay their own way. NO WORK STUDY, no financial aid. and if you want to participate in TSSAA open your books and your athletes parents tax returns for audit. Case closed.
  13. It doesnt take many it only takes a few of the best ones to tilt the playing field. SET YOUR ZONE to city limits of south pittsburg. If some little Jasper kid just has to come there for the "corn bread making class" that isnt offered at Marion Co he doesnt get to play sports. If he plays you get hit with multiplier
  14. I have no idea why you keep referring to transfers, transfers arent the problem. the problem is the kids that come from all over marion co and north alabama and start at Sp day 1 of 9th garde because the football program is more successful than the school they are zoned to. SET YOUR ZONE and play the players that reside in it. it is a simple concept
  15. So you should have no problem establishing your zone and if you allow players from outside it you get hit with the multiplier
  16. if you dont know if you are going to be good at football before 9th grade odds are you arent going to be good at football. And if you are good at football i bet you get approved. i didnt even mention the north eastern Alabama students SP gets
  17. I had posted this on the public private debate thread but think it applies here. We have all heard all the arguments on this topic a thousand times over. Privates have an advantage, open zones have an advantage, charter schools have an advantage, Magnet schools have an advantage. Its only us "1 school in the county" schools that dont have room to cheat the system. Unless of course you allow kids to cross county lines and pay a nominal fee. This aint happening where im from. Just for kicks lets start with single A football semi-finalist and see how each one had an advantage over the schools they beat to get there. Starting with Nash Chr- easy enough to spot their advantage- cut tuition for athletes and call it work study. Heck they got enough work study hours over there to run a mid-sized manufacturing plant. Brothers learned from the master at Brentwood Academy and knows the arm of the TSSAA can only go so far, just dot your I's and cross your T's on your paper work and they have to just shake their head and move on. I have heard they have an Ensworth transfer on work study, so let me get this straight, you can go to Ensworth and its Free and legal, but you decide to go to nash chr work for half your tuition and pay the other half, doesnt add up to me. Conclusion they have a definite advantage. Now lets look at South Pitt- they are a Single A school with a 4A(marion co) and a 2a (whitwell) also in their county. Open zone applies here. they have beat marion Co, the 4A larger school the last 5 years by a combined score of 214 to 46. they have beat the 2a school (whitwell) by a combined score of 310 to 60. So which school do you think Most football players in marion co go to. With open zoning it allows SP to pull from a much larger pool than most Single A schools. any reasonable thinking person knows that a single A should not just pound a 4a and 2A in the same county, year after year. Conclusion Sp has definite advantage allowed by open zoning. Coalfield the 3rd semifinalist- once again an open zone county. there are 4 schools in Morgan co. Wartburg (2a) oakdale (1a) and Sunbright (1A) . over the last 4 years Coalfield which is just scant miles away from these other 3 schools has beaten Wartburg (the 2A) by a combined score of 142 to 17, beaten Oakdael 183 to 6 and sunbright 154 to 67. Coalfield has had only 1 close game in 4 years between these 4 school that are within same county and same classification or higher than Coalfield. Once again this doesnt add up. Would make a reasonable person think most good football players in morgan co decide to go to Coalfield. Conclusion- Coalfield has distinct advantage by selecton from entire county for football players. Last but not least is Union City. These guys have the perfect setup. Large 4a school 8 miles away allows them to keep numbers down and stay in single A but have a huge talent pool to select from. this system cant be beat. they actually have just figured out their advantage in the last couple of years but their set-up is so sweet, look for them to rule single A for the foreseeable future. while they lost to the large 4a in '10 and '11 they whipped them in 12 by a score of 40-13 and Obion (the 4A) decided they didnt want to play against their own athletes and wouldnt play them in 2013. the setup is perfect cause union city is a city school and Obion Co is a county school , 2 diff governing boards that dont have to answer to each other. They dont have to play fair. So if you want a state title do you load up the 4a or the 1a. You know the answer and it worked like a charm. Conclusion- openzoning allows them tremendous advantage especially with the population numbers in Obion Co. Should be embarrassed if they dont win it every year. Look for them to get bumped up to 2a when they discover its easier to win than 1a is. So who is the bigger offender here? the private? or the openzone? not sure but the system sure needs some fixing
  18. i might analyze 2A next week. get ready Adamsville, i'm looking at you

  20. Doyle you're the first guy that hasnt called me an idiot
  21. I agree, i am taking a beating on the union city vs south pitt thread for pointing out that UC has a tremendous advantage over every single a school. the pop. of union city is over 10,000, thats 3.5 times the average of towns with single a programs. they have a 4a school 9 miles down the rd (obion co) that they beat by 30 this year. players can go to whatever school they want. to easy to funnel players to the smaller school . of course they say this doesnt happen. they also say their coach is alot better than OC and their facilities are top notch. i guess none of this would encourage players to pick UC over OC. they have found the perfect loophole. make most kids go to big co school to keep your numbers down and have football players go to UC. privates ruin metro areas and open zoning creates unfair advantage rural areas. they refuse to acknowledge the huge pool they have to pick from creates an advantage. they play school that get players from a pool, on average, a third of the number.
  22. population of Milan-7,807 population of union city 10,895. do you think milan might compete for the 1A championship? population of entire houston co 8,426. and HC is 2A
  23. Should Obion Co , a 4A school in the same co, not be better than the little ol 1 A? well its not. i wonder why..
