  1. Macon Co. Stone Memorial Livingston Academy DeKalb Co. Cumberland County Macon and SM get out of first round, Macon advances to quarterfinals before bowing out to Marshall County.
  2. Carlisle also has an offer from Tennessee Tech and has visited Western Kentucky. Navy is immediately the best fit for him, IMO. Would still play QB there, whereas he might not in the OVC, though he has the arm strength to certainly do so.
  3. I heard the WSMV report was brought on because the Gallatin News leaked it to them. The guy who was there was supposedly going to name names and everything, but the school squashed that and banned him from the campus. He got fired not too long after that, from what I heard.
  4. Just because Ravenwood is the defending champion doesn't automatically mean they're a top-5 team this year. They lost a lot and may not be very good when it's all said and done. Siegel lost to that same Ravenwood team. Hendersonville was 20 points better last year, and I don't see that changing this time around. HHS 38 Siegel 14
  5. Hendersonville probably plays starters a half, maybe into the third. Can't really afford to sit anybody unless they're banged up, because they could slip down a seed line with a loss. They want teams coming to their place in the later rounds, not the other way around. MJ wins and gets in. WC loses and goes home. Gallatin gets to seven wins (after their start, I would have said 'no chance') and Beech takes second - earning them a four seed.
  6. Those enrollment numbers will be official on the 20th day of school, when they're submitted to the TSSAA office. With Maryville already volunteering to move up, Wilson Central is that much closer to coming back to 5A. They should hope to do so, unless they want to be shoved in a region with all the Rutherford County schools. Mt. Juliet is likely there, too. Portland is a benefactor, yes, but all that does is put them back on a somewhat-level playing field. Don't expect them to rise from the ashes and revert to the late 90s Panthers. The current 9AAA schools could benefit, if the newcomers are teams such as Hunters Lane and Hillwood. I bet they'd be glad to trade Mt. Juliet and Wilson Central for Hunters Lane and Hillwood, plus an extra non-district game, as the new district will probably only have seven teams. We'll know in November what this thing is going to look like, but the only losers in this change are Mt. Juliet and Wilson Central.
  7. Weather forecasts are affecting Friday's scheduled scrimmages. H'ville moved theirs up a day because of it, as did Gallatin. Beech's scrimmage is still on for Friday at 6:30 as of now. But a thunderstorm cut short their "Meet the Bucs" night against Dickson County last year, and it might happen again.
  8. My thoughts on what could arguably be the most competitive district in the state (note that I did not say "best"): 1. Hendersonville...best coaching in the district and most of the key players are back. Running backs (whichever of the seven they choose to play), if they hang on to the ball, will help them win a lot of games. One of the state's best safeties in Braden Schwerdt returns to anchor the defense. 2. Mt. Juliet...this is solely on Chowbay's ability to stay healthy. There always seems to be a team in this district that underachieves one year and bounces back the next. Mt. Juliet will be that team if Chowbay stays upright. (If Chowbay gets hurt again, bump them down two or three spots.) 3. Gallatin...They have playmakers, but can Julian Meador be the signal-caller to lead them effectively? If he does, they're in line for a good 5A playoff seed. 4. Station Camp...Tre Malone needs to get the ball more. Not sure that happens. Anderton will keep them in games with his arm, but will it be enough? 5. Wilson Central...Could be a wild card. They're Jekyll and Hyde. Depending on what team shows up, they could move up a slot or move down two. 6. Beech...The Vanzant brothers are going to be studs, and Rodrick Napper could be as well. But they won't be able to put the team on their backs like Jalen Hurd and Dorian Carter did. Defense has holes and they'll get exposed. 7. Lebanon...They've been improving and they might just show up and knock off a team that they probably shouldn't. But it's a long climb in this district. 8. Portland...They're last until they can climb out. But their new offense will at least make opposing coordinators do a little extra game prep in those weeks. They're young, but they may be able to take somebody to the wire this year.
  9. I would not put Beech there after watching last night's scrimmage.
  10. Can't confirm this, but Hendersonville at Wilson Central could be the opener on Aug. 22. Hendersonville's website says the first game will be televised.
