  1. Probably the softest schedule in 6A for a winning team. 4 of the teams [(out of 8) half of their schedule] they have played have a combined record of 4-28. Let's repeat that ... 4-28. Not hard to put up numbers against that lack of competition. You can't control the schedule but Mr. Football is a stretch. If they get past the 2nd round, I'll believe but right now not even the best team/RB in Wilson County (if you consider the other classifications).
  2. DA's QB is for real. This region was happy to see him transfer to Blackman and very disappointed to see him come back to start the season. Should be a good game. Glad its on TV so I can record it.
  3. FCS RB has only played in two 4th quarters this year. He has been pulled when the game is out of control so yes, he is for real.
  4. Congrats MJ. Good win over a quality opponent. Just don't let 10-0 be the goal. Lots of good squads in Rutherford, Memphis, and East TN when the playoffs start. Good luck.
  5. Just an observation but the underdog has some coaching issues. Early in the 3rd going for it on 4th down on their side of the field only down 21 at that point. Also, not kicking the FG at the end of the half when their kicker was warming up at halftime nailing 35+ yarders? Clock management was terrible also. Coach Davis has stated that their goal this year was to make the playoffs ... almost everyone is going to make the playoffs (6 of 8 teams). His goal every year should be to win state. I do think they and the other 3-6 seeds in the East will upset some squads in the West in the first couple of rounds.
  6. I couldn't agree more. Despite what's said, not a hater, just pointing out the obvious. Not one post from me that anyone can dispute. IMO the bad news is Whitehaven, Blackman, and Maryville have each lost one game to really good competition. That's motivation for them. MJ might enter the playoffs 10-0 thinking they are all that then lose to a 5-5 Rutherford County school. I hope they don't but its a possibility if they think this shutout streak is for real against 8-40 squads.
  7. Some don't like hearing it but by the numbers: These teams have won a combined 10 games against teams with a combined record of 17-43 (.283). Each has only beaten one team with a winning record, both 5A squads which any 6A squad should win that considers itself a contender for state. Take those two wins out because they are 5A squads and these two teams have not beaten a winning team this year and the combined record of the teams they have beaten is 8-40 (.166). Let me repeat that: 8-40. I don't care what the opinion, 8-40 competition in any sport is the definition of an easy season so far. Rossview wins/MJ wins ... it doesn't matter. This is a weak Region just purely based on the numbers (facts).
  8. In the West there's no question its DA/NCS which will be decided on 10/13. In the East its surprisingly interesting if FCS/DCA are the top dogs or can TKA/MJCA step up. MTCS is no longer a contender. FCS plays MJCA Friday so that will settle a lot of issues in the East. DA/NCS are for real regardless and will be a real challenge in Cookeville.
  9. Great win against a 5A 1-5 squad that was also shutout against Stratford 36-0 who is 2-4. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid. Nothing impressive about this streak. 10-0 against nobody means nothing when you meet somebody in the playoffs. Softest schedule in 6A. Enjoy the run.
  10. Just pointing out the facts Homer. You'll see in the playoffs. This team wouldn't be in the top 4 in Region 3. Enjoy the ride while you can.
  11. Not to take anything away from the shutouts, that is very impressive, but they haven't played anyone yet. Combined record of opponents: 7-18 and if you take away the 4-1 record of the 5A Gallatin squad, MJ has only beaten four squads with a combined 3-17 record. The next five games on the schedule look just as easy. Again, the shutouts are impressive but the 5-0 record isn't. Strong chance MJ is going to go 10-0 without playing a single 6A squad with a winning record (possibly McGavock but everyone knows they aren't for real). That's a bad combination going into the playoffs. Enjoy the run though. Just be aware of the quality of the teams you are shutting out when the playoffs start.
  12. There's a reason MJ isn't in the top 10 AP poll despite giving up 0 points on the season. Gotta beat somebody to be somebody.
  13. Now that Webb finally plays on the right level, no success for a decade. The excuse that you were not at full strength is a joke.
  14. From what I'm hearing there are 3 players returning for GP this week that haven't played this year that are strong. GP is stronger than their record. FCS better not look forward to the big showdown against DCA or they just might be upset.
  15. Disagree. This is the old MJCA but with a coach that knows how to schedule better. They haven't played anyone and are running up stats. In the new format, they only have 3 real games: TKA, DCA, FCS. They will make the playoffs for the first time in school history because 6 of the 8 squads will and the rest are simply not good. First test will be TKA on 9/15, the same night FCS/DCA face off. Huge night for the district.
  16. TKA makes it past round one if they are a #3/4 seed. Zero chance they make it past the quarterfinals. The top two in each region this year are solid above everyone else: NCA, DA, DCA, FCS.
  17. The MTCS QB got knocked out of the game with a broken collarbone and TKA still only beat them by 6. I honestly thought TKA was the #3 squad in this district but MJCA has had some impressive numbers. 6 of the 8 make the playoffs. Grace, Concord, Ezell, and MTCS will fight for the last two spots but it really doesn't matter in round one. The top 4 will be 1-2: DCA/FCS 3: MJCA 4: TKA If MJCA beats TKA by 21+ on 9/15, they may be for real and challenge for the top two spots. Same night, FCS/DCA face off for the number one seed in the district. MJCA has never made the playoffs ever so I'm finding it hard to believe they are for real this year. They are running up stats against very little competition. The 9/15 date is going to define this district for the playoffs.
  18. Gotta play somebody to be somebody. You only have 3 real games on your schedule: 9/15, 10/13, 10/20. If you lose to MJCA, no chance on the other two.
  19. Watertown lost to MJCA. MJCA is not a good squad. TC will have no problem. TC by 28.
  20. So without all of the actual plays, TC would have won. Great breakdown of football. Turns out those plays won the game. 20-16 is the only stat that counts.
  21. That's just funny. I looked for that "free gas" after the game but couldn't find any. Must be a local thing. Did enjoy good BBQ at Pig Pen's. Great dinner. FCS needs to enjoy the moment but move on. Long road trip to Chattanooga next week. Focus on the game next week not the big one on 9/15.
  22. I would respectfully disagree about them not being good the last couple of years. FCS played Webb, USJ, St. George's, and BGA the last couple of years when they switched to DII. The private school switch put them up against schools that were double/triple their size compared to the 2A squads they won back to back State Championships against (same size schools). All of those schools were moved up to DII-AA based on school registration numbers. Webb should be playing DII-AAA like BA/Ensworth but Webb doesn't challenge itself. The bad news for Webb is they will now at least have to play squads in the playoffs with the same registration numbers. They can no longer play down just to win State. By 9/15 FCS will know what this squad is after playing TC, Goodpasture, and DCA. The DCA game will decide the #1 seed in the playoffs for the East bracket.
  23. Just curious, when the starter went out why did they go with a 3rd string freshman? Why not the 2nd string QB?
  24. MJCS makes the playoffs this year for the first time in the programs history because of the new format. They do have some strong/experienced returning players including the RB and QB but historically they pad the stats by playing weaker teams out of conference. They play Watertown next Friday, that will let everyone know if they are for real or not. Watertown is a strong team. My prediction is 5-5 (they will either be the #4 or #5 seed, Kings Academy will be the other) and a first round loss against a top 4 West team.
