  1. Rhea County and Soddy are the closest to White County. From Soddy it is straight shot up on a 4 lane highway so not that bad. For Rhea County, it is a little more difficult though you can stay on a 4 lane highway - just more miles. The other schools are long drives for White County. I feel for them - the schools closest to them are in another classification.
  2. It can be a catch 22. Yes playing better teams helps a team improve. But the loss can result with a lower placement in the region or be the difference in a team making the playoffs.
  3. Non conference games do matter in the other classifications this year. It becomes a tie breaker if you have more than 2 teams tied and one did not beat both. It may actually come into play in several regions in 5A depending upon games this week.
  4. Other teams have thought they could contain WV's QB as well. It didn't really turn out that way for any of them. He is going to get completions - Owls will need to score and contain him more often than not.
  5. Why should they? I believe both will be in 6A with plenty of opportunities to schedule other teams.
  6. So 8 of the 9 Memphis teams are automatically in the playoffs. Cookville, Warren and Coffee could be in a district with the Chattanooga area schools. They are just as close to some of those schools as is Maryville, Heritage and William Blount.
  7. If they put Catholic in the region with the other Knoxville teams, don't they have to play them or take a loss? Seriously are the Knox County schools afraid of competition?
  8. Hoping the team comes out fired up and ready to play against McMinn. Need this to win the Region and get the home field advantage.
  9. Tie Breaker Procedures: C. If at any point when the following tie-breaking procedures are applied, one team has beaten all the other teams that are tied for a play-off position, that team shall be rated above the others. D. In the event of a tie for the region winner, runner-up, third-place, or fourth-place team, if either team(s) has defeated the other(s) in regular-season play, the team(s) shall be rated above the other(s) in the standings. (After the region winner has been determined, the tie-breaker procedure shall begin all over again starting at the top to work out the runner-up position. The procedure shall be repeated to determine the third- and fourth-place teams.) E. The following tie-breaking procedures shall be applied and all regular-season games, both region and non-region, shall count (After each of the following steps have been applied, item C above shall be applied.): 1. The team with the greatest number of victories. 2. The team who plays the greatest number of teams who win 50 percent or more of their games. 3. The team who has the greatest number of victories over teams winning 50 percent or more of their games. 4. The team whose opponents have earned the most victories. 5. The team whose opponents have received fewer defeats. 6. Coin Flip
  10. If they stay in 5A, more than likely in a region with several teams they play today (Rhea, Soddy, White County) and possibly add Lenoir City which is fairly close. Like someone else said, Cleveland and Bradley are probably still going to schedule them. It is kind of sad that the region these schools are in is split among 5A and 6A. Most of these are natural rivals that have played each other a lot over the years.
  11. Agree - 5A and 6A (sans Maryville) seems more competitive.
  12. So I have seen some complaining because they were put into 5A and not allowed to stay in 4A and now I see some want them to go to 6A. Either way I believe they are going to find that the teams in 5A and 6A are a lot more competitive than those they are playing in 4A with the exception of Fulton.
  13. Rhea County will be fine. The Eagles were not sharp at times offensively - had several scoring opportunities where they turned it over on downs trying to make a play on a pass.
  14. Well from someone who has only seen Cleveland play Rhea, the QB for Cleveland that played after the injury was really better than the one that started the game.
  15. There actually were passes thrown to the tight end. At least one was called back due to a penalty. Actually there were several completions nullified due to penalties and there was one that ended up with the fumble at the end of the first half. Folks also forget that Rhea has a sophomore QB as well. There has been more passing in the last two games and that seems to be giving him some confidence. Just need to hold on to the ball and avoid the lineman down field penalty. Also in time he will be able to have the confidence to look for the secondary receivers - who were wide open several times in this game. No problems with Rhea's offense in this game - the defense just broke down several times and the long pass burned them.
  16. Don't know who is going to win but we will definitely know more about McMinn after this game.
  17. Neither defense really stopped the other's offense.
  18. Really? There is no rhyme or reason when the Rhea County band plays - or so it seems. High school stadiums are not really like college stadiums where the sound goes down and stays on the field. They are more open - best I can tell, I have never seen the band disrupt the play one way or the other.
  19. I think this game is going to be much tougher than many of you think.
  20. You will need a lot of patience as will the OR players. It is easy to get upset with all the "yellow" hankies that seem to be thrown every play. The thing is that eventually even a very patient team becomes upset and they actually start making the mistakes.
