  1. Nobody talking about McCallie? They are playing great and have a chance at the Gold Ball! Go big blue!!
  2. definitely true- I thought Tyner had to keep it in the 50's and Brainerd hit 60. 50's or under from here on out for Tyner or they will not make it. But the Rams are capable. As for Brainerd they can be comfortable in the 60's and are poised for yet another run. Impressive win last night!
  3. Very hard to bet against that Tyner defense. Good luck to both teams!
  4. I hope CC's stumble doesn't bite them in the butt. ND has got to play really well to stay alive.
  5. I saw Cleveland last week at Soddy. Curry is special but my take on them is that those 10-11 that play give great effort and I couldn't tell the difference in the first 5 and the second 5. (except for Curry) Depth is a dangerous weapon.
  6. Got some characters on this thread....lol Riverdale is the obvious choice and most talented team in the state. It will take that perfect game from a very good team to knock them out. Villanova- Georgetown 1985.
  7. Cleveland keeps rolling behind KK Curry. EHam is a hard team to figure out. Hopefully they can get it going after the pounding Cleveland gave them. Could be a rematch of these 2 in the finals.
  8. Tyner - Big Brainerd - Big ER- by 5 McM Cent - by 7 Tyner and Brainerd in the Region finals for yet another round!
  9. Excellent points SJF and I have witnessed the shot clock hiccups too many times. Shot clock issues arise all the time even at the college level which should have it figured out by now.
  10. Big Win for Tyner tonight. Congrats to the Rams!
  11. Touchy subject here. AAU summer ball plays with a shot clock in most big exposure tourneys. Most of my HS coaching friends (boys and girls teams) are against it because slowing the tempo could possibly give the underdog a chance. As for preparing kids for the next level, these are the ones playing with it in the summer already, so I may side with the HS coaches this one time. Let school ball be school ball and summer be summer. Nothing is broken here.
  12. Best chance for our area is in AA. Maybe Brainerd and Tyner can make a run. Hope so! AAA is very different in Memphis and probably only OR can compete from the East side of the state. I still hope our local teams can advance as far as possible. Cleveland vs. EHam will be a good district final. I'll take Curry, I mean Cleveland in a close hard fought game.
  13. "Thankless job" is accurate. Having played at the collegiate level, coached levels from High School all the way up to the NBA and made my living with this game we all love, I will say this: Most (80%+) do a very good job even at the HS level. 10% are just bad but not overly bias. And finally yes, 10% are bad and have a pride issue, bias for or against teams, coaches, etc. and have no business working a game at any level. I would say that most of the time games are not impacted by officials. I agree that Sometimes they are impacted, but this ratio will most likely continue as long as human beings are involved. I can't comment on the "accountability" of HS officials as I don't know the process for the state org.
  14. Collision course most likely in district championship, But could happen again in the Region......2 really good teams.
  15. Very surprised by the point spread in this game. Any thoughts?
  16. McCallie over HH was a surprise to me. Congrats to the young guys in Blue. Hard to figure out what happened to them tonight vs BA?. I am hoping they can make a run in the private school state tourney. Tyner winning the 9th grade tourney just means that the well is still full. Nothing drying up anytime soon for the Rams. Best public school team in the area. Cleveland is still my pick for AAA although it looks like EHam is closing the gap and yes I know they lost last night and tonight.
  17. Rhyne Howard is one of the best players in the state/ nation. She should be a finalist this year. I don't believe in the "has another year" philosophy of some as no one is guaranteed of a healthy or successful next year. Hayes is incredibly special and leads the state's best team. Hayes won it last year and Dangerfield won it 2 years in a row as well. Personally, I am pulling for Howard to win it this year. She is worthy of the award on one of the state's top 5 best teams in Bradley Central. Good luck to all the young ladies who are nominated.
  18. T. Key was a finalist last year and has to be a favorite this year. I enjoy all of the summer discussion, AAU vs. EYBL and the "shoes" leagues. Only problem is this type of talk changes the discussion from what these kids do during their high school seasons which is what most voters will recognize. Carry on though- interesting reading.
  19. Good points - but I would like to see a valid weighted system for out of state teams. No way Riverdale's schedule is 101st in toughness. (ranked 4th on CoachT??- crazy) I assume the system is not set up to recognize Riverdale's elite opponents from PA, MS, GA and AL. In reality, sometimes CoachT is close, other times USA today is more accurate. The TN AP has the largest margin for error due to the local biases but is usually not too far off.
  20. Tyner would definitely be a top tier team in AAA. Well coached and very strong on the defensive end. Looks like Cleveland is at a different level than the rest of AAA in this area. That would be a good matchup though.
  21. Looks good to me. Definitely on the first 4. Baylor is the wild card??? Chatt Christian may prove to bump Howard or Meigs but we will see next week.
  22. Congrats TRF and Tyner boys. That defense!!! Wow. Old fashioned hoops! I like it.
  23. Good for at least another week. Tyner 7, Brainerd 10Tomorrow will be lit!
  24. Congrats to Tyner and Brainerd- both in the top 10. Young fellas are working hard.
  25. Probably true about Tech. I think it's great to have 3 teams from our state and 2 from our area recognized nationally. Says a lot about how people feel about girls hoops in TN.
