  1. Well, Hamm, considering your rankings I would put Cannon at #3 in the 120 class (I believe Seeley will individually compete at 113 at state, although Cannon has pinned him every time they've wrestled anyway). So if he's the 3rd best 120 in the state (according to your rankings) it is reasonable to think he could wrestle in the state-semi's and potentially make the finals. As for my prediction for the WC tourney. I guess we will see how things play out. If Horst does take it, it won't be by more than a minor.
  2. At first I thought this might be ObserverW's burner account, but then I realized he was saying something positive about Soddy Daisy.
  3. I'm predicting that Horst and Cannon meet in the finals at 120. It could potentially be a preview of the state-semi's/finals at that weight. I also think Cannon wins in a tight one.
  4. Oh he definitely did. Dane moved really well, but you could tell he was out-weighed and out-muscled. Makes me wonder how he'll fair against bigger 106's this season.
  5. I really enjoyed the show this week, guys. Thanks for the time y'all are putting in to it. Hamm, I did notice a few discrepancies in the rankings from a West TN perspective. -At 106 in AAA, Gabe O'Callaghan is the name of the kid from Bartlett (He actually beat Dalrymple from CBHS this weekend) -Dalton Cockman moved from Bartlett to Arlington over the summer so he'll be eligible for them immediately Keep up the good work!
  6. We'll probably have to wait until the results from the preseason and first week of duals get put up on Track to have a good idea of these teams' lineups. All we can do now is speculate.
  7. I think these would all have to be looked at individually. A lot of the time it isn't a younger six pounder's lack of technique that leads to a loss. It's his mentality. Some 14 year-olds simply get psyched out by older looking kids with chest hair and tattoos. Kinda like how coaches, even if they weren't as successful in high school, can still beat up on their stud state medalists at practice. It's that "old man strength" mystique.
  8. I don't think Kerns will be at 126. He was at 132 for most of last season, and he got bigger this offseason.
  9. Why hasn't Rusty Morris' name been brought up? Wasn't he the associate HC under Coach Lewis?
  10. I haven't heard anything about Jonathan Simpson being in the mix. My money says he will be back at Arlington next season. Also, JM Simpson is Pat's nephew. His dad Frank is the coach at MBA.
  11. This was in the Commercial Appeal yesterday. He will take over the program at MUS. http://www.commercialappeal.com/story/sports/high-school/2017/03/09/wrestling-coach-lewis-leaving-cbhs-mus/98935580/
  12. They were there this past year. Their only losses in the tourney were to Soddy, which has been previously discussed in this thread, and McCallie. The Soddy match was a lot closer than the McCallie match. The Whitworth kid almost teched Cannon wrestling up a weight. That's when I knew he was for real.
  13. You are pretty spot on about them not being able to fill spots. Kids in the Memphis area want to play football, basketball, or baseball bc everyone of them is going to play professional sports in their own mind. The majority of region 8's and CBHS' studs started wrestling in youth clubs early on like most of the kids across the state. It's just hard getting kids out if they don't have a parent or football coach pushing them to try it. And FWIW, I have only seen Soddy wrestle two or three times this season, but Boeck sure is fun to watch. I haven't seen very many 220's that can move like that kid. I'd really like to see him wrestle Wathall from CBHS. They both wrestle like 170's.
  14. I don't even know why I took the bait Good luck to your guys this weekend. Should be one of the best tourney's in a while.
  15. They've had injury problems just like everyone else. No excuses though. Everyone has kids out of the line-up through out the year so they showed up and wrestled regardless. And go look at their first rd match up against Science Hill in the state duals. If they can coach kids up enough to cut bonus points on Arthur James, Chase Diehl, and Luke Story, I think they would be fine against Tony Wilson and the other kids' names who don't even come to mind. As for potential state champions, if you haven't heard Aaron Moore's name by now you either haven't been paying attention or don't know squat. Metcalf is a solid heavyweight as well, with wins over multiple ranked heavyweights. He obviously isn't beating Boykin or Kramer, but he's legit.
  16. Arlington only had 11 wrestlers entered in the region tourney. The same as when they spotted Soddy 18 points in forfeits and only lost by 13... Now let's all agree that both teams are talented and have good kids with chances of placing high this weekend. Hopefully you and OW can bury your petty, childish region feud so that we can all be happy about the level of parity from across the state at this year's tourney.
  17. Regarding 138, I feel like the finals will be Pendley v. Wilkins. Honestly, Ingram will have a tough time getting past Phillips in the quarters. The two wrestled a close one in the state duals. Ingram won by 1 point, but Phillips got in deep on a shot and had him broken to his hip when the clock expired. As far as 195 goes, Johnson is an absolute stud. He can hang with the best of them, but his gas tank is suspect. I've seen him take injury time on numerous occasions just to catch his breath... I still think he will end up on the podium, but his conditioning will cost him tight matches against quality kids. Other than those two, I believe that Cockman (Bartlett) at 145, Cannon (Arlington) at 113, Moore (Arlington) at 182, and Metcalf (Arlington) at 285 all have good chances at making the podium. There's a West TN perspective for y'all. Now I'll go back to observing
  18. Cannon and Palmer wrestled at the Blackhorse last year, with Palmer winning by major dec. I think Palmer is the better wrestler, but Cannon's cradle is so lethal that he can put anyone away if he gets it locked up tight. And I agree about Pendley. I watched him against Indy at the duals and he looked tough. 113 will be a battle indeed.
  19. For most improved? You could make a case for O'Callaghan from Bartlett, Antcliffe/Metcalf from Arlington, or Johnson/John from Kingsbury. I've enjoyed watching O'Callaghan all season. He was extremely undersized last year, but he looks a lot tougher and stronger now. He's kept it close with some good kids, but he hasn't won a BIG match yet. I would probably give it to Metcalf from Arlington, purely because he has beaten some kids that were ranked highly. He placed 3rd at Blackhorse (only because he caught Healy in the semis, and that kid is a stud), he placed 2nd at the Brentwood GP West (losing to Boykin from Riverdale), and he beat two good kids at the duals last weekend in Demello from Indy and Champion from Tullahoma.
  20. Good call. I forgot about Young being a freshman because he's up at 152. My mind immediately goes toward the lighter weights when I think about that award. I also agree about the OW potentially going to 5 guys. Cannon, Cockman, Dawson, Phillips, and Moore will all be in contention for that one. Arlington has wrestled a much tougher schedule than Bartlett this season, but Cockman winning the Blackhorse was very impressive. He also beat some good kids at the CBHS Duals.
  21. Agreed. I'm struggling to find anything exciting about this year's tournament. Cockman and Johnson from Kingsbury haven't wrestled yet, so maybe that match will provide some action. I think Antcliffe and John will be a good match, as well as Kerns and Briant at 126. Roaten is the obvious pick to win 220, in my opinion, but Cara will be coming at him with everything he's got after the way that match went last year. Any predictions for season awards, Nainten? I'll go with this right here: Best Match- Cockman and Johnson in the 145 finals Freshman of the Year- Artilles from C-ville OW (Tournament)- Dawson from Bartlett OW (Season)- Moore from Arlington The coach of the year and tourney will go to Coach Simpson again, but Coach Shirley at Kingsbury should at least garner consideration for the way he has those guys wrestling.
  22. I just changed it. Thanks. Has the other brother been wrestling this season? I don't remember seeing him at all this year.
  23. The top 4 from each weight go now. It's hard to tell bc we won't know who will be where until the seeding meeting, but here are my predictions: 106- O'Callaghan (Bartlett), Becerra (Houston), Nguyen (GHS), Pringle (C-ville) 113- Cannon/Morgan (Arlington), Artilles (C-ville), Bowden (Houston), Koss (Bartlett) 120- Cannon/Morgan (Arlington), Bozarth (Bartlett), Kimble (C-ville), Kinnear (Houston) (Cannon and Morgan have swapped in and out at 113/120, I think they would both win either weight.) 126- Kerns (Arlington), Briant (C-ville), Spiecha (Houston), Franklin (Bartlett) 132- Taylor (Cordova), Longo (Bartlett), Fisher (Houston), Milner (Kingsbury) 138-Phillips (Arlington), Manuel (Houston) 145- Cockman (Bartlett), Johnson (Kingsbury), Baudoin (Arlington), Bowden (Houston) 152- Young (Houston), Worley (Arlington), Braswell (GHS), Smith (Bartlett) 160- Antcliffe (Arlington), John (Kingsbury), Dawson (Houston), Taylor (Bolton) 170- Nguyen (Kingsbury), Longo (Bartlett) 182- Moore (Arlington), Flemming (Houston) 195- Johnson (Bartlett), Anderson (Bolton), Bush (Cordova), Lewis (Arlington) 220- Roaten (Arlington), Cara (Bartlett), Martinez (Kingsbury) Hwt- Metcalf (Arlington), Oliver (Bartlett), Holcomb (Collierville), Small (Kingsbury) If I don't have four kids at a weight, it's because I think the remaining spots are up for grabs.
  24. Agreed. He has been solid all year. Also, Moore from Arlington (182) pinned #6 ranked Williams from Clarksville at the CBHS duals this past weekend.
  25. This is the most accurate assessment of the dual that I have seen thus far. Not having Cannon, and their starter at 170, forced the coaching staff to bump a lot. Having said that, I believe that Science Hill is a top 4 team in Div. 1. They have multiple wrestlers who can score bonus points at will and their role players seldom give up pins. They are pretty solid from top to bottom.
