  1. Page HS is going to be really good again. They made the AAA state tournament this past year and graduated nobody. They've got a chance to win the whole thing. Jackson South Side will be strong. I heard they lost their post to another knee injury, but even without her, they'll be a threat because of the way they defend.
  2. York/Westmoreland for the region title will be a huge game. I don’t think either team has much trouble getting there. The winner of that region can book rooms in Murfreesboro, but the loser of that game probably plays sectional at East Nashville - not an easy place to play.
  3. I don't know anything about the Alford girl from USJ. I do know that if Edie Darby has some help, Greenfield is really dangerous. She's really good, but Greenfield didn't have enough to go with her last year.
  4. I think that’s accurate. McKenzie has to be the heavy favorite in A. I don’t think their lack of post play will matter much because I don’t think any other team in A will have enough guard play to stay with McKenzie. Clarkrange, Jo Byrns, Gleason, North Greene, Greenfield will all be solid. Not sure what Pickett brings back. But none of them will be favored over McKenzie
  5. Coming from Summertown, she shouldn’t have any problem with multi-sport athletes. This past year’s Summertown team was all multi-sport athletes, several played three sports
  6. I haven’t heard any different names than have already been discussed on here: Jeremy Jean, Jordyn Hartsfield, Krystal Edney. I expect it to be Jean, but I could certainly be wrong.
  7. One of the most impressive things about Summertown’s success in basketball (boys and girls), baseball, softball, volleyball is they’ve done it with terrible facilities. The gym is a fantastic place to watch a game but it’s the only gym on campus (4 goals total). It has to be shared by both HS basketball team, both MS basketball teams and HS and MS volleyball. The gym, in my opinion, is also a dangerous place to practice basketball. There is about 18 inches between the sidelines and the walls. They’ve had a couple of serious injuries during games in the last couple years - serious as in neck injuries requiring Lifeflight. Summertown has been incredibly successful anyway, which speaks to the quality of their kids and their coaches.
  8. The Summertown job will be interesting. I’ve heard the same names that @Jaychapman mentioned earlier. The obvious hire is Jeremy Jean. I believe he lives in the area and was successful at Forrest. But he was the obvious hire three years ago and they passed on him. Jordyn Hartsfield is back in the area, was a great player and has been an assistant at big program. She doesn’t have a lot of head coaching experience and her husband coaches football at Mt Pleasant, which could be awkward as they’re in Summertown’s district now. Wendi Scott would be a home run hire. She has a history of success and adding her daughter to Summertown’s roster would make them really good. Not sure I see it happening as I was told her daughter is really happy at Lawrence County. Another name I have heard is Krystal Edney, coach at Perry County. She had a couple state tournament runs a few years back. There will likely be several more applicants. Summertown’s girls don’t know anything other than winning. I suspect that continues with whoever they bring in.
  9. There’s been so much talk about this over the last few days. I thought it was unlikely when I first heard it but with this much talk, it seems like it may actually happen. Administration must be a complete mess for her to leave a school she just took to a state final
  10. I live in Columbia (about 20 minutes from Summertown). There’s been a lot of talk about Summertown recently. Hearing the new administration down there has been unsupportive of the coaches and several are unhappy. There was talk around here about the boys coach (who is a Summertown alum) being interested in the Mt Pleasant job. I agree with @SportsWestTN that the girls coach leaving would seem strange, but if administration there is as bad as the rumors, that might be the explanation
  11. I'm curious. With South Gibson taking this long, have they offered the job and been turned down by one or more coaches? Or have they just not found someone they're comfortable with? I think Dyersburg is a good job based on history and pay scale, but the new coach has to get through some lean years in the immediate future. They were down this year and graduated their best players. The best player in the middle school program just moved to Riverdale with mom and dad. USJ has a long history of success but I'm not sure they are in a position to compete with Webb, Lakeway Christian, and a couple other private schools that are bringing in high level athletes on financial aid. I would rank the Bolivar job ahead of the Ripley job just based on their district/region alignments
  12. Joel Ayers has been successful at both Gleason and Dyersburg. Ashley has her own history of successes, including her incredible playing career and coaching at the college level. They've got a really talented daughter in middle school. Their connection to the Flight AAU program could certainly be helpful in getting players to Riverdale but I don't think it's fair to say it's "just a recruiting hire". The odds were always against the sisters staying at Huntland. It guess it could happen but them leaving was always more likely
  13. He was talking about South Gibson, not Riverdale.
  14. Riverdale job is open. Coach resigned today. I haven’t heard details as to whether forced or voluntary.
  15. I heard rumors that it was going to be costly to get out of their contracts for football games this fall. I think they still end up playing 8 man but it could be another year before it happens
  16. I think they started 4 seniors and a sophomore (Bush)
  17. CA was solid this year but talent level is not where it has been the past few seasons. That combined with moving to DII with a district of Webb, CPA, and FRA made a big difference this year. They'll continue to be a very good program but not sure they have the resources to win championships against the big boys in DII
  18. Coffee will still be really good. The rest of that team was talented but deferred to Vinson. I expect them to expand their roles. Also, I believe Vinson's younger sister is headed to the HS team. She will step in and contribute right away. 1. Coffee Co 2. Warren Co 3. Shelbyville 4. Franklin Co
  19. Greeneville and Grainger - AAA South Greene - AA North Greene - A
  20. Westview will still be really good. With the twins graduating, I hope Haskins ups the tempo and lets Harrison go at people. Gibson Co will always be good. They're going to need some improvement from kids not named Hart. North Greene basically refused to guard a couple of GC's players in that upset win. Loretto is probably the favorite. Karly is special. Little sister will be an upgrade on their current other guards. They will be vulnerable inside with Kensey graduating. Fisher is undersized and Kensey's sister is not Kensey. Westmoreland should be tough. I think they return most of their best pieces from a team that beat Macon County this year. McMinn Central should be good. They were young and successful this year. East Nashville has been solid recently. Summertown graduates a lot of production. Have to think they're a step behind Westview, Gibson, Loretto to make it through that substate grouping. Burdette will likely be more of a focal point for them offensively. South Greene is always solid but I think they graduate a good bit this year as well. Fairview made some strides this year in AA, beating Creek Wood twice in the regular season. Meigs Co has been really good recently but graduated all five starters and their coach retired. No idea what they'll look like next year. Alcoa, Gatlinburg-Pittman and Cheatham County have had some recent success as well. One thing for sure - there will be two teams at the state tournament that will have no business being there. Regions 7 and 8 will be awful.
  21. I just went to pull the box score from TSSAA website. Burdette played 16 minutes in the game. Major blow for Summertown offensively and defensively. You're right about Loretto. They peaked at the right time and were the best team in the last week of the season, which is when it matters most
  22. This game looked fairly similar to the previous 3 meetings between Summertown and Loretto. A few differences, in my opinion, were the difference in the outcome. 1. Loretto took care of the ball. In their previous meetings, Loretto's guards not named Karly struggled with turnovers against Summertown's defense. Those same guards played very well in the championship game and avoided turnovers. This allowed Loretto to keep Summertown out of transition, which is where Summertown was at its best. 2. Summertown did not shoot well. This was the case in all three games at the Murphy Center. They had several looks in the championship game that would have changed momentum or, in the 3rd quarter, extended their lead. They just couldn't knock them down. 3. Loretto's ability to get to the free throw line was huge. If I remember the final stats correctly, Loretto was 19-26 from the FT line compared to Summertown at 5-8. In previous meetings this year, those numbers were much closer. 4. Burdette being in foul trouble. She had no issues with foul trouble in previous matchups. She was really good in the championship game and her minutes being limited due to foul trouble was a big blow for Summertown. All that to say, Loretto deserved to win that game. They played their best basketball in the last couple weeks of the season. Karly Weathers is a special talent and will give Loretto a chance to compete again next season. Summertown had a heck of a season and will have to figure out how to replace 4 senior starters.
