  1. Exactly right. Greeneville has the athletes, coaches and everything you need to properly prepare and beat most teams in the state.Dobyns Bennett is a very young team and in what is supposed to be a rebuild year. Yet,they were within a score of Greeneville early in the second half.Point is, you start pounding your own chest or not keep the pedal down for every opponent and then those Greeneville sun headlines will not be so fun to read.
  2. I personally don't like the running clock .It reminds me of those youth league teams that don't keep score, that I've heard about. It more importantly takes time away from younger players who might get a chance to play a few snaps . I'd hate to be a young player who works their tail off and have to watch a game from the sidelines without a chance for my family to see me run out on the field. Yeah I know what some folks think about that. So,get better and beat out a few guys and that won't be a problem. I watched a team keep their starters in a game one year when they were getting destroyed in the second half.I understand their coach was probably trying to just help his first team get better but that's also part of the reason they sucked most years .Your second and thirds need experience before they are your main players.
  3. How about the game this week.If I'm a coach and seen the DB game film from two weeks ago... I imagine the Devils have seen a lot of that same film and worked very hard against similar game scheme's over the last few days and worked on adjusting to it during coming games.I really don't know myself if it had anything to do with DB or Greeneville just getting a little to confident after a fast start.Either way, I'm old school and this is still Oak Ridge that my school is playing and not some local pushover who hasn't won a game in three or four years.I'm still respectful of Oak Ridge no matter what the outcome of this game.
  4. On a positive note,my Devils have an awesome strength and conditioning program and that has been huge for them and also our 4A neighbors up in Elizabethtown.
  5. Wasn't sure if you were saying OR or DB but either program now or a few years ago that I was talking about, should have top notch coaches in football or their strength training for all sports. I'm truly just a guy that tried to help his own kids and their teammates out years ago . I've since seen with especially a couple of my kids and their education how much more there is to it with sports science these days.
  6. Unacceptable if that was my school in 2021. At least DB had a guy who tried. That said ,he had them on the track putting them through some kind of crawling exercise for several minutes before they went in to max out on the benchpress.I told my son after practice that I knew good and well they didn't max on the bench after watching them outside getting warn out .I was incorrect but someone in the good ole boy system's son was trying to do the job, better then nothing I guess.
  7. Actually forgot it was the game thread while reading along.OR fans,I understand as a parent of former Dobyns Bennett athletes ,how it can get very frustrating when things are not going well .Oh, it's awesome when your team is winning in different sports and a added bonus if little " Batman " is doing well.Parent or fan, when things are going poorly it sucks all the way around. Some of you hit on a few points I would just lose my mind about back in the day. When it's all said and done, most of the blame falls on those in control of a program. It Can be the head coach 100% or others who pull the strings keeping him from making certain moves. One of you mentioned strength and conditioning.I preached for years about that and how it definitely hurt DB's chances at a championship . Finally someone ( probably a coach or his wife) asked what my qualifications were to question such a thing and what have I ever done coaching .At first I just thought, they are right ,who am I to question because I'm not a coach, but then I wrote what I happened to remember.Well,I trained one of my sons and he broke a world benchpress record before he ever got to DB and I had my younger son doing reps with a world record before he got there and coached a son to become a state martial arts champion.I guess it was enough for them to back off.True however that I might not be a football coach but like the OR fans,I can see if changes need to be made by just looking at the results.
  8. I'll get the jump on whoever is thinking about the " E "..GreenEville
  9. Nomatter how their season is going,Oak Ridge is one of the states all time great programs and it's awesome to see the Devils on their schedule.I don't know a lot about every member of the OR team but I guarantee some of the Devils will have their hands full at several positions next week.Just because a team isn't getting wins doesn't mean there isn't talent on the field.I remember several years ago,one of my boys went down to play Oak Ridge and man they had some great ball players but must have had some of the poorest coaches in east TN at the time for a great program. They went well over 300 plus on the line and had awesome looking athletes in the skill positions. They had a QB that looked like he was 6-5 240 and could move .When I watched them warm up,I looked over at another players dad and said " we are overrated " and this might be ugly.I was wrong but I'd bet those OR players with some of Greeneville or Maryville's staffs over the years, could have won state with no problem. So,forget their record and prepare like crazy.
  10. Funny you bring up a pinto. After my 2nd speeding ticket,my parent's gave me back the money I had spent on buying the chevelle and I took 1000 dollars and bought a four speed lime green 1974 pinto that topped out at about 65 down hill.Six months later it wouldn't go up north main street without putting it down in 2nd gear. They had painted over the rust and if you ran through a mud puddle with the windows rolled down, there would be mud on them when you rolled them up.I was on a date in washington county and as I took the pretty Boone Girl back to her home in gray, the tail pipe fell down from the muffler because of the rust. Some way I tied it up to get home but that old four cylinder was very embarrassingly loud.I guess every cop I pasted felt sorry for me and didn't pull me over.I sold the car in the next week or two for three hundred dollars and got my first car payment .I personally have hated pinto cars ever since .
  11. Ha,reminds me of a classmate I had in the eighth grade in Greene county. He drove his dad's three speed on the column bronco ( that would burn the tires off when he left ) or his own motorcycle.Man,ole Batman was jealous riding the school bus.
  12. I understand,my first car was a Chevelle, at least until I proved a 16 year old and a 396 engine were not meant for each other . I also made a few poor decisions.Had to go to the vice principals office one day ( he took care of kids that lost their way to school and such things ).He ask me " how were the fish biting below the dam yesterday ".Have no idea to this day how he knew I skipped school to go fishing below the dam on the Asheville highway.
  13. You get it Swipes.Wiser then most of us on coacht.Greeneville has a great team but just last week,DB was within a score of our Devils in the second half .My concern is the perfect storm for a complete playoff game. You always show respect and prepare as if it was the greatest team your going to face.
  14. Yep,get through the game safe and get ready for Oak Ridge ( one of only three high school football teams ) that's been voted Nation Champions from the state of Tennessee. Also, they made a very nice playoff run last year, so as I've posted multiple times, you never overlook teams like OR or DB ,ever. That said,I never overlook anyone, even if this post seems to.Take care of first things first .
  15. I haven't done what every Greeneville coach and possibly every top 4A playoff opponent has done since Friday.Study the game film.Yep, as I've said, the coaches know the team a lot better then myself. They knew the running game would probably open up and I was more concerned the passing game wasn't what it should be against DB.Some defenses beg you to throw into coverage and you have to either take the short stuff or run the ball unless your a Tom Brady .Even he will try and force a play into coverage every now and then.
  16. Being a fan of Greeneville first, second, thrid and then a DB fan, I think it was a good game for both teams.I'm personally glad the game tightened up after the Devils fast start, before the pull away later in the game .I was actually starting to wonder what Greeneville was going to do if DB continued their momentum and tied the game or even took the lead.I know the staff is awesome but at the same time,we are all human and it's easy to make sudden changes if things are not going as well as expected.I'm glad Greeneville's strength and conditioning program was part of the difference because I doubt many 4A programs will wear Greeneville down if DB can't with their numbers.
  17. I think pretty much what Greeneville needed ,to have a game late that needed to put away.DB was there in the second half and after the start, that's saying something. To much speed in the end but it had everyone's attention well into the second half .
  18. I went to school with Floyd Gillespie, amazing athletic ability.I seen him get both elbows above the rim and speed like crazy.A guy I use to work with talked about being undefeated going in against him,I think he said they were running a 400.He made it into a real funny story , don't know if it's true.Said they were talking at the first of the race and Floyd acknowledged my coworker was undefeated but told him he wouldn't be after the race was over.He said they were still talking in the first turn and a Greeneville coach told Floyd to get going. My coworker said Floyd just said,I got to go and left him in the dust.True or not, Floyd was a great athlete.
  19. I had to quit reading when they said coach Carter likes this matchup better then SH vs Powell .I knew it had to be taken out of context or coach had been practicing with the team and not wearing pads when the interview took place.Either way,I think it's probably just to pump somebody up and I'm not buying what their selling.
  20. I agree, at the same time it's a lot easier on Batman if they could roll through 15 games without being tested.Your correct however, a good challenge is probably something that can help in several different ways for when it's lose and go home time.
  21. Greeneville is very fast and to me is just a matter of their QB and receivers connecting enough to also open up some running Lanes with a very talented running back they have.If that happens and Greeneville is able to get off the field on the defense side,it could be ugly.Your correct on the other hand if coach Christian and all those good coaches that I've known for a long time can keep the Devil defense out there and maybe cause a few turnovers,it could be a very close and tossup game.Greeneville also has a second QB who is just as effective in the passing game if not more so.So yes the Devils have size and speed as well as being greatly coached and some depth.DB is a 6a school and depth should however be to their advantage tonight. We will all find out in a few hours if something unforseen doesn't happen.
  22. Yeah it's not rocket science for today's generation to live stream a game. You would think for a game this important to the locals and during a pandemic, someone could live stream it especially for the older folks at home who can't drive to Greeneville and watch it.I know several DB fans up here that would love to see it on TV .Great opportunity for the DB guys to at least stream it on YouTube for them to watch now or later
  23. Sometimes a guy in that position can be manipulated to your advantage .Maybe someone got into their heads.I done it one time when I was coaching one of my sons in a bench press contest at the junior Olympic games. The main judge was terrible and after he made my son hold the weight down for over five seconds on his first lift,I acted like I was mad at my son after the judge wouldn't give him a good lift. While it looked like I was giving my son a really hard time,I was actually pointing at him like I was the Devil but telling him the judge had screwed him over and this might help him on the next lift.Sure enough as soon as he took the weight down, the judge told him to press about as quick as it touched his chest. That was also for a world record and the next left went just as easily.
  24. Ha,I was terrible at even working the chains when my kids played.Worst job in the world when you have one playing.I'd forget and move down field before the ref said it was ok. I might be able to work a clock now but no way could my old az run up and down the field.
  25. Toocool is saying what most are thinking about an East Tennessee team going to Maryville . It's been a while since a team not called Alcoa beat the Rebs from this part of the state. Those players are probably drawing their SS by now .Greeneville has lost a home game several times in the last twenty or so years but DB might want to pack a lot of ICE for their " Toocool chance tonight " but yes either team could pull off the win.
