  1. My point was that it's not out of the question for a former player with no coaching experience to be successful. There are a whole lot of coaches that have zero business coaching at many different levels including high school.I'm not just talking x's and o's. Most of us that have played sports or had kids play sports ,know that. Yes, you want the very best Coach And person over your program and when the coach isn't earning his pay, that's when a change needs to be made.Earning his pay includes winning and being a fair and good person that the players want to play for. There are some great examples and one is at the school I played for .
  2. Can you imagine the DC fan support.Heck,I'd have season tickets in their new 25000 seat stadium.
  3. To be clear, are you saying Alcoa is getting a player or two for sure because of the coaching change a few miles away?
  4. I have not seen the schedule myself with the dates and everything set.
  5. I will say one name as an example and I doubt we would argue guys. Peyton Manning calls and says I'll take the DC job if you will give it to me.What coaching has he done ? Kids from 100 miles would transfer to play for this guy who has never held a coaching job .I bet money he would do 10 times the job most of the local coaches with any amount of experience .Some of the local programs play so much politics that they wouldn't fire the below average coach they have in order to make that move.
  6. If the winning stats I've seen are correct, The last coach done about as good as is has been there in 45 years .DC has had kids born ,grow up and have their own kids between winning seasons during that time.Somewhere around 5 winning seasons in 45 years. It would be hard to do much worse for the program then they have done in football.A former pro player might excite the kids and bring in a few more out of JC ,never know.I hope for those young men that want to play, the next coach keeps things moving upward and DC can have winning seasons every year.
  7. I've never been to their stadium, but brought the family back home through the Pisgah national forest a few months ago.Beautiful country over there, wish I could take those mountain roads like when I was younger.
  8. Your all over it.If the Devils were to play a school smaller on a scale compared to how much bigger DB and SH are to Greeneville, that school would have to be smaller then the DB band .That says something both ways I guess
  9. I don't have the stats, but wasn't Maryville around number 6 or 8 in wins just a couple decades ago.
  10. The topic would have been better had you said ," Does any team in East Tn have a legitimate shot ".Maryville was great at times before GQ,he just made them one of the best every year.
  11. There will always be people that don't like me or mine and the same for you Compton.I have a son that is a good cop and because of a few bad ones and a few people that see cops as all bad,my son has a very dangerous job.Life is just not fair sometimes and we have to make the best of it.
  12. The next coach better be a good one, nomatter what his race.Wow,some great takes on race here however.Osunut you hit it on the head about this part of the state during the war in the 1860's.My family was split for different reasons, none that involved slavery. One of my great grand dads was killed for not showing the rebs where to cross the local river.Others didn't like the Northern boys coming into our area and then some didn't like either side ! Maybe one of these days it will be different and we can all notice others for being different in many ways including color, but we will all be able to accept those differences and move on.I grew up in the 60's and 70's.At first,I was the " white boy " playing ball at the neighborhood center, but when we got to highschool, we were all best of friends.I have friends from every race and I can't stand people from every race. The cool thing to me is race has zero to do with my friends or people I don't like.I'm equal if you treat me or mine good or bad,I'll give it back just the same.
  13. One of the best coaches in the history of Tennessee High school football.I'll miss seeing him on the Rebel sidelines.I wish only the best for him and hope Maryville gets another fine man to replace this huge loss.
  14. Merry Christmas to all of the Greene Devil family .I don't care if you played sports for the Devils ,alumni, parent, fan or just love them,Merry Christmas !!
  15. I always like to see athletes do things like that. Many give a lot back and a few we could do without. It was the same when I was a kid.I remember going to watch the "superstars" in the early 70's when they would get great athletes from all sports and compete in south florida every year for a tv show .Met some great guys like Lou Brock and met some guys that had seen their best days, like OJ.
  16. If this year wasn't a good enough example of what being a favorite can do for you, then we better all keep looking back. The 4 teams to beat in 4a,all got beat. The 2 teams to beat in 6a,got beat. The team to beat in 5a,got beat and was winning 35-7.Alcoa almost got beat and that was a sure bet not to happen in 3a.Now,in the East however.I have to like my Devils and Elizabethton to be somewhere at the top.Never know about middle and West TN.Never count championships until the gold is in your hands.
  17. I can't remember if batman has congratulated Alcoa yet on another great year .I'll do so with my new Devil name.Awesome job !
  18. I won't kick Oakland while their down. They had a great year, the best 1a through 6a football team I saw all year .No,that doesn't guarantee a championship and for anyone to beat them ,you have to say a great job to Whitehaven.
  19. Hope those that are not playing basketball or on the mat,are hitting the weights hard. The weight room has everything the Devils need. When I walked through a few weeks ago after meeting the coaches,I said this is all we need along with the great staff in place.
  20. I hope for South it's the best move for their program. To me,It looks like an odd deal all the way around, but I guess the folks at South know what their doing.
  21. Wish you guys all the best rebelwoman.I see it took you about a second to figure out my small change.Hope to see the Devils open for the rebels again one of these days in the finals. Rebel coacht guys are the best...
  22. Oak Ridge 1958,Tennessee 1972,Baylor 1973
  23. Both the 5A and 6A championship games were great ones.I'd love to see them play about five times instead of that one game.
  24. I know of three that have been voted National Champions since the late 50's.So I guess they share the number 1 ranking.
  25. I think every part of the state has teams to be proud of this year. It's hard to mix and match everyone when they don't play each other but I've seen many of those listed by several posters and they are all very good teams.Didn't get to watch all the games but thought the 5A and 6A championship games were awesome. That's when you shake hands and know either team could have won and both have no reason to hang their heads.
