  1. I was curious, so i googled larry to see if I could find his winning percentage in his career. From an article in the tennessean from last year that popped up, it said he had over 500 wins and had been at rbs from 76-2014 which is 38 years if my math is correct. Dividing lets say 550 wins by 38 years equals 14 wins a year. Basically .500 percentage in A ball with talent. And now he's winning at a high clip. Sorry, i think thats due to the work those girls have done being brought up through the mc system. He may be next in line for sainthood, like i said i don't know him. I only know what I've seen and heard from his peers. Bottom line is all I said was i don't get the love for him, and that beast of a team he has is all down to those ladies on the floor knowing how to win and I'll be really surprised if they don't get that gold ball that mc has deserved for decades now. My 2 cents and you don't have to agree, i won't lose any sleep and neither should you. Aight, y'all have a great weekend and tell your people you love them.
  2. Wow. So your saying RBS had less talent in their area than places like Celina, Jamestown, and Pickett Co? Can't agree there. And mentioning top notch players leaving, I wonder why that was? Maybe he couldn't coach them to get them better so they went somewhere else would be my guess. I agree mc is def not top job in AA, but those girls are taught the basics of basketball from elementary school on up, so to think larry has "coached them up" with things they didn't know is ridiculous. So any player development that's happenned in mc under white has happened privately and through aau, I'm willing to bet. Also, previous coach had pretty good teams and should have had 2 himself and o yea don't forget coach carters years ( so basically the last 30 yrs) that have been pretty good, so it's definitely not "the best run in history" good grief. Anyway, i just never get when people slobber over a coach. Especially a banty rooster like white (allegedly of course). But it's all good, and good luck to your teams
  3. You may not like it, but don't get your feelings hurt by a stranger's opinion. I don't like or dislike the guy. I don't know him. But I do know the teams he's had, and i disagree that he's always had "less talent than anyone else in A". He had some really good A ball players come through. And get out of here with this love of the game lol. Like I said, i don't know the guy but ask literally any other coach in the state that does and they will describe one of the biggest egos in the game. I personally just don't get the love for a mediocre coach, but you do you boo and good luck to ya and your team(s).
  4. I don't get the coach love. Heck, if they don't win state it will be because of him, not because of how well he's coached them lol. He had the talent to win multiple gold balls in single A and got out coached every time and was handed the keys to a ferrari when he took over at MC so all he has to do is not crash it but his ego won't let him just let the girls play. Mc is best team in AA, and anything less than a state champ is a huge disappointment.
  5. No team is immune to having a bad day. It's the teams that can figure out how to do it when they're having a bad day that are the truly good ones. I didn't watch the game, but I can see the stats and O rebounds were huge. Free throws were huge. TO's were huge. All those tell me that MC was unprepared for in game adjustments, which lands squarely on the coach, and those 10-15 additional possessions that I mentioned were vital for CC, as well as those refs that I mentioned too. I been around bball a long time, and the old adage "you can't teach size" (especially when it's talented size) is accurate. CC is the real deal, because they beat (mashed) a team that was the real deal. Good luck to CC in the champ game!
  6. Doesn't sound like the "legend" had them ready to play. I can't imagine CC is that much better in talent. This one sounds like it's 100% on coaching and lack of adjustments. I'm guessing the pressure MC puts on teams was cut through like a knife, and MC only knows how to play 1 way so if it doesn't work then this is what you get. Feel bad for the MC girls as they worked hard, just like the rest of the teams there. Sometimes it's just not your day. Congrats to CC.
  7. I agree. I'm not saying that MC is any less of a team because they don't have size, but I do know that rebounding in a fast paced game like they like to play can be the difference if the 2 teams are fairly equal. It may not come to make a difference. MC may just be that much better than the rest. I've not seen any west tn teams play, but I've not seen a better AA team this year than MC. But if last year taught us anything, it's that refs can impact a game tremendously and if MC can't pressure like they want to then I'd really like to have some size to rebound with. That's why I think this years MC team isn't as complete as last years. Bullington made a difference to me, even if Carter and Gregory are better this year. Either way, I think it's theirs to lose.
  8. I agree with all of that. But I think you would agree that if the unexpected comes in to play and foul trouble happens or the game is called tight, rebounding can be the difference in winning and losing. I do think that MC should win it all. I don't know of a team that is good enough to disrupt MC enough to cause them problems. But bball can be a funny game sometimes, and I just know that if I was coaching I would always have in the back of my mind a fear that the lack of size could bite me in the rear. Not that there's anything that can be done about it haha. You can't stretch Carter another 4 inches overnight, or make Shoulders at least 5 ft tall lol
  9. Bigs don't mean much until you run into a team that out rebounds you and gets 10-15 extra possessions. You're right in that their offense doesn't feature bigs, but if you don't think they matter then we just have a different philosophy on bball. I have watched them play, and I've seen a lot of mismatches and lack of rebounding that other teams just haven't taken advantage of. It's all about matchups in the postseason, and MC might just be that much better than teams they play, but if refs come into play and they can't pressure like they're used to, you bet being able to rebound in a half court game might be the difference.
  10. 3 trips because he had talent lol. Don't forget that the previous coach at MC could have had a couple of state championships as well. MC is on a run of talent, and coaches can ride that out. Basically just don't get in the way. But of course if you ask him, he really is a legend tho...smh The only reason Larry unretired was because he knew the team was going to be good for a few years. Don't think for a sec he would have if they were only average haha. So he looks good, but it's the girls that have played well enough to get there.
  11. Not sure Meigs has seen the speed MC has so far fasr far this year. Should end up being a comfortable win for MC. Will say Meigs is coached really well, and they know how to play. Very impressed with their style and smarts. Just don't have the horses for this race.
  12. Wait now, slow your roll haha. This is a different team from last year, and I don't think they're better this year than last. Their lack of size will be hard to overcome when they play those west tn teams. They have a chance because of the talent of the starting 5. But with no bench, it is gonna be tough to get back to the champ game much less win it.
  13. Yea slow your roll with popping off about a regular season game, when all it means is they split the season series. It matters that it was the first win in a long time, and can give the girls some belief, but post season is what really matters and the reality is that until you beat them in them then they still are sitting top of the mountain. But I will say that while they aren't gold, there's a lot of programs that would dream of having 3 silver trophies. 2 plays away from it being 2 gold and a silver. So there's plenty for MC to be proud of. This year's team lack of size will be their achilles heel if they get beat, and missed layups. But there's a chance, and we'll roll with that.
  14. Yes you should want your atmosphere in game to be like that. Makes it so much better when fans are allowed to have fun, as long as there isn't physical contact or over the line intimidation. But I can't say I agree that MC played well on D. Just because the other team can't score doesn't mean it was due to good D. You're right that they pressured that shooter (the only one Upp has) but backdoors were there front first tip to end. MC has no backside discipline in their spacing or gap control, not to get too detailed. Unless it's the little Shoulders girl. She gets there and will scrap. Dana is a good enough coach to recognize if a set play isn't working and adjust, so I think I'm gonna chalk it up to just a bad day in the office for them. While some of it was due to gameplan by MC and the energy they brought, both teams can play much better. We'll see who wins the coin flip, not that it matters, and play the games in Cookeville for seeding.
  15. Yea I thought this would be lit up with Upperman fans by now lol Neither team played well. But the atmosphere was what you would hope it would be for a big game. Administration did a good job with making sure some over zealous students didn't get of hand, but if their noise upset some fans I didn't see them do anything wrong. I really like the young guards Upperman have but they struggled. MC hit just enough shots but didn't play well either. And successfully took the air out of the game 4th q. Which I absolutely hate. A shot clock can't come fast enough imo. Tourny will be fun, but I hope it's a better game if they play again
  16. Look at the sidelines of MC. Numbers are down, and been trending that way for a while. MC athletes aren't playing sports anymore. Baseball is seeing the same thing numbers wise, and while basketball has been decent lately it seems many of those kids are either told not to play football or they aren't interested in it. Football takes time and commitment. Seems a lot of kids don't want to put the effort in that football asks for. But it all comes in cycles. MC will never be as consistent as something like a Trousdale, but there will be a string of kids that will be special one day. In the meantime, here's hoping that the current kids stay healthy and still enjoy those friday nights.
  17. You're totally correct. Football is demanding of time and effort. And I would encourage all kids to play as many sports as possible. But there are enough kids that don't play any sports that tell me there's something extra going on in Lafayette. To be competitive in football, in small towns like Macon, you have to squeeze every ounce of effort, sweat and blood out of every single body you can get to show up. But if nobody shows up, expectations might need to be kicked in the shins a little bit.
  18. Awful lot of guess work flying around now that the coaches have left. I don't fault any of them, as they did what they felt best for them and their family. Assuming that Wilson left just because their stud is gone is lazy and wrong. My suggestion is look at what the whole situation is/was. Macon is a 4A school, if I'm not mistaken. And if you've went to a game, you'll see what, maybe 40 kids on the team? If even that many? The reality is that Macon's athletes roaming the halls aren't playing football. And that isn't a coaching thing, it's a community/society thing. A 4A school should have at minimum, 50-60 kids playing football. Go up to the field house in the summer and see how many kids are in there lifting weights, being committed to getting better/stronger. I'm guessing tumbleweeds might be blowing through. This generation of kids just aren't into it like the good ol' boys used to be. Other sports don't have to have the numbers football does, and when you see declining numbers year after year, your dang right it affects how coaches might consider other offers. I wish all the coaches that accepted other offers the best of luck, and I think Shoulders will do the best he can with what he's got to work with. He's got the knowledge, just like Wilson does/did, and I'm sure he'll be a good representative of Macon Co. and it's program. Macon gets talent in runs, and there's not a lot special coming through in the next couple of years, so hang in there fans and enjoy seeing your friends on friday nights. But don't get caught up in rumor and guess work and think bad of those that left. I guess they just thought it was time for a change, which is normal and every program goes through it in all sports, so good luck to all and if you have any 6'3 270 kids laying around, get them in some pads!
  19. I completely agree. The foul call on the 3 pt shot didn't look like a foul on replay, and the no call previously was terrible as well. But you can't take either one back. However the refs can't compound that mistake by completely losing control over the game, while a freshman is having to wrap their head around winning a state championship by hitting free throws. Dana broke the cardinal rules of touching a ref and being not only out of the box but at half court arguing a call, and I have never in a whole life around basketball seen a coach act that way and not get popped. They were unlucky on the fall call, but supremely lucky she didn't get at least one tech no matter how bad the call was. So I think that was a wash. Upperman was a better team, and anyone arguing different is flat wrong. You don't beat a team 5 times and not just be better, with a next level player like Levy. Congrats to Upperman, period. But also to not think that it could have very easily been a different outcome with refs that weren't so poor is not being objective either.
  20. I think it's just a function of the tssaa that they know they can do whatever they want and nobody can do anything about it. You want a public review of refs? Nah, we're gonna take care of it in house, and if you don't like it what are you gonna do about it...nothing because they hold the chips. Does that change the outcome of the games that were butchered? Nah, sorry but life isn't fair sometimes. At least Macon Co.'s coach mentioned how ridiculous it was to have Upperman's coach on the floor while they were actively screwing up how free throws were being given to a 14 yr old freshman with a state champ on the line. Put yourself in that girl's shoes with all the chaos going on around her. Unbelievable. Until there are actual ways to run out any powers that be that just continually allow sub par refs in any sport due to laziness, greed, or just plain not caring, this will be a thread that can happen every year.
  21. There is a understood rule that you don't go out more than a step on the floor if you're arguing a call, nor do you ever touch a ref. Nobody around where I was sitting thought the foul call on the 3 was right, as it looked to us that she never touched her. Dana had every right to be upset with that specific call, but should have been popped more than once. Meanwhile, the refs had no idea how many shots, nor time left on the clock, and then dealing with Dana...meanwhile a freshman who has played her guts out and is exhausted is waiting to shoot free throws while all the circus is going on. Why Dana got away with it is a question that is for other conspiracy theorists. It was the complete lack of a call, and a whole night of no calls against Levy, previously that we all were exasperated by. How can a player as aggressive as Levy play basically 3 quarters and have 1 foul (after the quick 2 she had early)? Great player, and I'll take her on my team every day, but you couldn't watch that game and not come away thinking that they intentionally made sure she didn't foul out. Fantastic game though. Lot of courage on show, by both teams, by mostly Freshmen and Sophomores.
  22. Holy cow. I created an account just to share my thoughts on this. It generally drives me crazy. FYI, I'm not from Westmoreland but I do know the culture and town. The new girls coach, Coach Perry, is not the old coach. That in itself makes him not good enough in many people's eyes. Change is scary for many, and "new" is wrong, regardless of the fact that Coach Perry has college playing experience and has had a wide variety of bball knowledge available to him through his young career. Shocker, there is more than 1 way to play bball and it depends on what talent you have available. You say "arrogant", but do you mean "not the way I want it done"? I've seen Westmoreland play. And the cold truth, from an impartial person, is that Westmoreland just doesn't have the talent that some of the teams have had in the past. You have one guard, a sophomore if remember correctly but I'm sorry to say I don't remember the number, that can and will be a really good ball player as she gets the coaching and training that Coach Perry will give her. She really impressed me. But there is no size that would make a difference in the team I saw, nor is there anybody I saw that you can count on making an outside shot if needed. How many W's do you think you could get with that team? Coach Perry is young, but where does that mean he doesn't "know what he's doing"? Maybe young means he's not stuck in an old school, outdated mentality when it comes to what "good basketball" means. From what I saw, he runs good sets and his girls show they have an understanding of sound bball concepts. And they play hard. What more can you teach? How they execute those fundamental bball skills is up to the 5 on the floor. So give him time and support, and even if his last name isn't Abner he will bring some good bball to Westmoreland. It just pains me to no end when those that sit in the stands or are in the community that don't go to practice, or even attempt to get to know and understand someone, start throwing random passive aggressive things out there. He's going to be a good one. If you run him off, he'll be a good one for someone else.
