  1. For sure they played a lights out second half. But to have a shot at Maryville they will need to play the whole game that way. If they can get 4 quarters like their last two, I agree it could be a great game.
  2. What I’m saying is that face to face most of us choose our words more carefully and are a little bit kinder. It’s more difficult to say mean things while standing next to the person those words affect when you are able to see the effect it has on them. I don’t actually believe that calling a kid the worst QB in the state is the same as a website posting stats. When I see stats that show incompletions , sacks, interceptions (on any team this isn’t OR specific) sure I see that the pass game isn’t going well, but hey perhaps the O line isn’t doing so great, maybe the receivers share some blame but calling someone out as the worse QB in the state pins all the responsibility on him. It’s making it personally specific to him, and that’s the difference. He’s the QB1 presumably because the staff feels that he’s the best option the team has. I’d imagine if they had someone they thought was better, that guy would be out there. So when people get down on him, and talk him down, it just serves to shake his confidence and potentially make matters worse. I get the frustrations. My team had so many WTH moments last Friday. QB, d line, o line, special teams…pretty much everyone except our RB. It’s totally possible to criticize bad plays and bad decisions without tearing down a kid.
  3. I had the same thought. I know these games can get emotional but we have to remember these are 14-18 year old kids. Not saying there can’t be criticism but let’s not write things we’d probably not say to someone’s face. It’s not about being soft. It’s about not being cruel. To a kid.
  4. He’s definitely extremely talented. I guess what I’m saying is that maryville is deep enough to win even without him. Powell cannot overcome the loss of their QB1 even against equally matched teams let alone better ones.
  5. Potts playing would have made a difference but not so sure it would’ve have changed the outcome. On the other hand while yes the injury situation does go both ways, it’s not quite the same. Ladue being out hurts maryville but they still have an equally talented ball carrier. It puts more stress/work on him him and it’s not ideal but it can work if it has to. . Vaughn is capable of handling the job. Powell losing QB1 is a much greater impact because there is no one else comparable on their roster for them to replace him with. Nobody else can carry that load adequately.
  6. It’s Game Day Everyone! Football season flies by so quick! I love Friday’s in season!
  7. The thing about Maryville is that they can decline quite a bit from their “personal best” and still be beat almost everyone. They don’t win just because they have really good players. There are really good players all across the state. The difference for them is in the little things that are really huge things in the game of football. They are excellent at being methodical, disciplined, strategic and consistent. They play fundamentally sound football, they rarely get surprised and know how to capitalize on other teams’ mistakes. Your QB makes a bad decision? They’ll turn it into 6 points. Your d lineman made contact behind the LOS but didn’t quite wrap up? They’ll make 30 positive yards out of it. They are incredibly well coached and their discipline is better than most. Do I think they can be beat? Sure. They aren’t performing magic. They are however, executing consistently and have prepared and trained hard to be able to outlast and persevere. Until other teams can perform on that level fundamental soundness (for lack of better words) they will continue to win nearly every time they play.
  8. I wasn't there and don't know the specifics so this may not even apply. From my own experience seeing similar situations though, this usually happens when what the player said is a little more than a basic, garden variety cuss word. Ive seen this happen in particular when the words in question are directed at a specific person (often the refs themselves) OR when the ref has already warned the athlete about it. Sounds like he was frustrated for understandable reason but the players know they have to have self control in their reactions. Case in point, my nephew once got hit very late on a play. No flag. He had some choice words for the kid that hit him and almost drew a flag on himself. Would it have been fair? No, but its part of football. Sometimes you have to go back to your sideline and can't always just say anything you want. Its part of self discipline needed for the game. I get that it sucks. Maybe it was total BS. I'm not saying it wasn't. Just that each player is responsible for their actions, reactions and words. I do hate seeing any player ejected over a two second lapse in judgement and absolutely think throwing that second unsportsmanlike should be used very sparingly. It could easily have been my kid in that situation plenty of times.
  9. Praise God that you have beat cancer! I had no idea you were battling it. Glad to hear things are going in the right direction! Blessings and continued health to you!
  10. I hope you are right. It'd be nice to see HVA get a win and it would really give them a boost!
  11. I think Maryville wins this game fairly straightforwardly even with a completely healthy Powell team. With Powell missing QB1, I don't even think there's much to discuss. Maryville puts up their standard 42 points.
  12. This is another interesting one that I'm curious about. I think I'm gonna go with the Mavs on this one. I'd really like to see what they can do if they stay healthy all year.
  13. I do actually think HVA is going to finish the season much improved, but not sure if those improvements are going to show up tangibly on the W/L record just yet. I think Mo West wins by a couple TDs. I do like the direction I *think* HVA is headed, just based on what I've heard. But I think its gonna take a season to two for them to actually get competitive in most games.
  14. I'm really anxious to see how this one plays out! I'm going with Oak Ridge but I feel like this game is going to provide more context on both teams direction this season.
  15. I don't know what to predict on this one because its so early for both teams. Its hard to determine whether a win is a quality win until more is known about everyone. I wouldn't say that West "struggled" with Bearden, and I feel like Bearden has a respectable defense, but I do think that all those penalties would definitely give Farragut an advantage. For Farragut, I think the QB has to make smart throws, and not turn the ball over (obviously the receivers have to do their part. I think one of Farragut's interceptions last Friday falls on the receiver and not so much the QB). I think the defensive line has to come up big for Farragut. If they don't, it's going to be a long night with #14. He's impressive. For West, I think they have to play disciplined. They cannot have touchdowns called back, and lose the kind of yardage they lost on penalties. They cannot afford personal fouls, gains called back on holding ect. If they don't clean those up, those will be exactly the kind of breaks that Farragut will use to get by them.

  17. Farragut us usually live streams their games from their website which is farragutfootball.com
  18. Yeah sorry. I know it’s not terribly far but when you’ve been up for 16 or so hours already it can feel long. It felt really long for me last year and I was thankful to have people in the car with me to help me stay alert. Just wanted to say be careful and safe travels to all. I hope the weather cooperates and it’s a good one tomorrow night.
  19. For the Beech fans making the drive, y’all please be safe and try to rest up before the trip, or maybe even consider staying overnight Friday and heading home Saturday morning If that’s an option for you (and you don’t have to pick your player up back at the school). I know it’s not all that far but the drive can be a tough one at 10:00 pm after waking early and being up all day working or taking care of children/family. Just something to think about. It’s great experience for the kiddos but makes for a really long day for families. Everyone please be cautious!
  20. Obviously yes, I was scrolling the site in relation to the discussion. Of course. That doesn’t change the fact that when I read one of the comments on another thread, it brought up questions/rumors I had heard and wondered about so I asked. It wasn’t the same thread or the same person I was responding to. YOU then brought that over to this thread and won’t leave it alone. I have acknowledged that my question was answered very well and I appreciate those who answered it. You’re still trying to make more of it. Think whatever you want. Its almost like you need to believe I’m accusing your team of cheating. I’m not.
  21. Again pepvol, you brought up the question I asked on another thread in here and that’s how there came to be two discussions on it.
  22. Okay, I’ve tried to give you the benefit of the doubt but you seem nuts. The question I asked wasn’t even on this thread until you brought it here. Second, I asked a specific question, not for anyone to address every rumor ever made about your team. If you have a specific question about a rumor you’ve heard about Farragut baseball, why not ask? Seems better than wondering if the rumors are unfounded or true? I asked about this and I got intelligent, well explained answers. Now I don’t wonder. See how that works? I’m not mad at any Maryville fans other than thinking that GreyRider X is really really out of a limb with his accusations. I may disagree with some things but isn’t that the point here? To post opinions, commentary, feedback and observations back and forth with others? You need to chill the f out. And since you’ve brought up Farragut’s baseball program here in this football forum several times now, why don’t you stop pretending you aren’t trying to do the exact thing you so desperately want to accuse me of? If you have a question, ask. Maybe someone who knows about the program can give you a straight answer.
  23. I should have used different language. I have heard the rumors is definitely a better use of words. I was directly asking so that I could have a real answer versus just hearing rumors and thinking hmmmm I wonder. I appreciate the response and it makes perfect sense to me. For the record, I have never accused Maryville of cheating and it’s not right of Pepvol to insinuate that I did. I can understand being frustrated by perpetual non stop rumors that aren’t true. It’s the whole reason I asked directly. I have never thought that Maryville cheated. I have wondered if their district allowed for different transfer rules than what other districts had and if schools had leeway on how they were applied. That’s very different. I am certainly not anti transfer. heck, my kids attend Farragut on a transfer. It’s perfectly legitimate and valid and approved by Knox county. That’s not cheating. It certainly could be viewed as an advantage over another team from another district or county if they weren’t able to utilize those same rules but…different places have different rules. I think sometimes people conflate cheating with simply having a different policy. And I think sometimes people conflate being accused of cheating with being accused of having an advantage other places may not have. Your explanation was very clear and easy to understand. I appreciate it.
