  1. Rbs and Pickett are almost identical in 9-12 grades (they have 6-12 in the high school according to internet.) Pickett’s enrollment is hovering at 200. Rbs’s number is hovering at 200 (9-12) as well. Once again this is internet numbers. Pickett just travels A LOT BETTER and always has.
  2. Pretty good way to add cash to a program. T$$aa gets gate but concessions would be schools. 4/5 days of money is a pretty big pot.
  3. You could use any other school within the host regions area. Especially with 1A/2A’s gyms being smaller. More fans/more money. You’d think t$$aa would be all over that.
  4. Ja’Kobi is an unreal talent and better kid. I got to coach him “a little” as a youngster as our kids played travel ball together. I’ll guarantee you Belmont is getting a DIAMOND! He’s an unreal competitor and athlete. Wish him the best. No idea about the others mentioned, but this was a Kobi thread so I’m only commenting on him.
  5. On a side note: what an atmosphere tonight in Livingston! Crowd was rockin and the game was awesome. Refs were very good minus the timeout when the ball was loose and Strong’s tech (let the players celebrate). There was nothing personal about it. He’s an 18 year old kid celebrating a big play. The sec used to be horrible in football for this (they’ve gotten better). Basketball is an emotional sport. Let the kids play and let the refs keep it fair as long as it’s not taunting. My $.02.
  6. Livingston needs to get their court fixed (it’s coming apart and slick as $&@!). Their bleachers are horrible for fans too. They’re the old wooden rickety ones that move as you walk. A LOT of older people really struggle with them as far as going up and down. No hand rails anywhere. How they’ve not been sued is phenomenal.
  7. Yep and yep. Gordonsville was outmatched. Pickett was out worked. RBS got every loose ball and every rebound Pickett’s freshman didn’t get (she gets a lot). Defensively they didn’t get the pressure coach Smith usually gets. Pickett has been off a week plus and it showed. No disrespect to RBS. They won outright and deserved it. They were the better team tonight. Pickett is young. Hopefully it’ll be another lesson learned for them moving on to regions.
  8. Clarkrange bounced by Gordonsville in play in game
  9. ER will be a very tough out. You can guarantee the district final between Clay and Pickett will be an all out war to see who doesn’t have to face groves at ER in the semis.
  10. They do it to keep them “fresh” to be able to score as they don’t have a ton of offensive players. 1A and some of 2A have a lot of this. When you have 200-700 students there’s usually not a lot of very skilled offensive basketball players. Coaches in these divisions have to try and maximize what they’ve got.
  11. If Pickett would’ve made their free throws they would’ve won. They controlled tempo and kept Strong under wraps. The sophomore big for Pickett got Arms in foul trouble and was a thorn in the side to clay all night. If Pickett can incorporate him in with the guards shooting, should be a tough combo to defend. It will all come down to who gets to dictate tempo. Whoever does should get to avoid E. Rob till the region finals. Just my $.02.
  12. Yorks freshman is athletic as crap. Lol. She can go and the others fill their role nicely. Everyone on the team is ready to score the instant the ball hits their hands (and they can shoot). Fun team to watch…more fun to coach.
  13. Clay won and congratulations to them. They deserved it. In the first half Pickett was up 10ish. 7 of the next 8 fouls were against Pickett. That had a TON to do with the outcome. In the second half the calls were pretty equal but the damage was done as a key player had to be taken out. In the first 2 minutes of the boys game Pickett’s coach was hit with a warning (for asking clarification on a call). TSSAA is more corrupt than the Gotti’s. Until Rick Shoulders is removed from a position of power, no team will ever get a fair game in the upper Cumberland. End of discussion.
  14. He did, but what coach doesn’t help out his best offensive player? He was held to 14pts tonight by one of (if not THE best) defenders in 1A (btw, he gets no credit from the media and he guards the best player from every team regardless of position). He’s still the BEST player in 1A.
  15. Grant is the better/best player. York has the better team
  16. Destroyed Pickett. Pickett played scared and clay didn’t.
  17. Coach Smith is legit and anybody that thinks differently is just a hater. The job he’s doing this year is remarkable and he should be rewarded accordingly.
  18. They’ll improve next year (by seasons end). The Wood girl will graduate (and be sorely missed), but the upcoming 8th grade class has a few GOOD players coming that should keep them in the mix for a few years.
  19. Very young team that keeps getting better. If Coach Smith isn’t COY then they should throw that award away. If Emmy Lowe isn’t in consideration for POY, then throw it away too. 1 senior, 2 sophomores, and 2 freshman starting, with a freshman as the 6th. Heck of a job Pickett!
  20. Coffee county is a 4A school (probably 2000 more kids than Pickett). If anyone saw the game they’d realize that Coffee shot an unbelievable percentage from deep. Pickett got beat and beat handily. My whole perspective was Coach Smith is doing an unbelievable job with an all new cast (1 returning starter and 2 freshman starters and 2 sophomores who had not started a hs game prior to this season and a freshman as his first sub). He’s a VERY good coach and the girls and he deserve the recognition. No idea where they’ll finish but they are playing very good basketball right now.
  21. Pickett County beat Clarkrange tonight at clarkrange by 11. Coach Smith has the girls playing very good basketball. No idea what they’ll end up finishing, but they are playing really well right now
  22. That’s pretty petty on your part. He coaches in a region where you literally have the all time winningest coach in high school basketball. So to say he doesn’t have the trophies that other coaches do isn’t fair. He’s a VERY good coach and is doing a very good job with a team that literally has one senior. To discount that is just juvenile.
  23. Hampton is a very good team. All that anybody said was that Pickett County was good as well. Seems like Hampton ran into the same Powell the Pickett did. All things will get settled out. Just play the games and the talk will eventually get settled out. Lot of very good teams in A this year. Hopefully it’ll stay fair and the crap that got pulled last year in Memphis won’t repeat itself.
