Slimy Steve Matthews was never gonna be the head coach there again. The Knoxville Diocese made sure of that. As long as Dumb Dickey is in charge there, the drunk catholics will never be able to get out of their own way.

I know Lane was the co-DC that went to Boobcat Nation and from what I understand he took a bunch of Beerden coaches with him. Seems like the wheels are falling off for Jones, wonder how bad it is for all the coaches to be leaving? Are they realizing a middle school program cannot succeed in 6A ball? How long will the administration put up with all the headaches of a head coach that doesn't teach or contribute to the classroom? All questions should be fun to watch settle out.

Sure seemed to be a problem when he was the coach at Choke Ridge. I am sure he is getting his fill of Mountain Lights or maybe Cherokee Red Ales at the Calhoun's there on the lake. Cherokee Red Ale Cummings has a good ring to it.

So a coach at Helpless Hardin Valley won a state award for high school coaching? How much did he have to pay for that? Surely him being the president of that organization didn't play a role in him getting that award. Looks like maybe he won it for 2021 when he was at Choke Ridge. Still odd that he won it in one of the worst seasons in Choke Ridge history....Funny how power and influence makes things happen. Hope he learned how to recruit at his previous stops because that is pretty much all he will be doing by looking at the product Beerden has put on the field the last two seasons. It is really phenomenal how much they have underachieved with the talent they have had. I guess middle school football can't compete at the 6A level.

Everyone knew this is where this hire was going, local news stations said it in their story about Holier Than Thou Eddie retiring. The program really needed new energy and someone that is willing to play the game, much like Saban getting out at Alabama. This hire feels more like the easy way out as opposed to the right hire. People respected the previous coach and he could sell on his reputation of being an upstanding coach. Unfortunately, that all goes out the window when he steps away, even if they keep him around in the background as some have mentioned. His son may try to keep things the same, but doesn't have the years of goodwill built up to sell to incoming players. It is going to be tough for him to succeed with all the private schools circling, waiting to attack. It seems now is the time to attack and it seems like they are if what others are saying about them losing incoming Freshmen. It feels like the principal and AD did a disservice to the program by taking the easy way out instead of getting someone that is qualified to take the program to the next level. Everything I have seen says Holier Than Thou Eddie retired so someone could bring renewed energy to Fairygut. This hire feels like the status quo will stay intact for as long as the supporters will put up with losing football games.

Will the money dry up when "Builder" Benji's kids are out of the program? What is this the 4th time they have tried to start a football program? They have the right guy in Slimy Steve to sell snake oil to anyone that will listen, but when the rubber meets the road and they actually have to start building and playing, how will the West Knoxville elite feel about not being competitive and have sub-par facilities? This feels like a situation where the Concord will get all the "leftovers" that other private schools don't want since they really have nothing to offer. Plus, I can't imagine those in Fairygut that want their child in a private school would chose Concord over the other options. So it feels like this will be a place for those that want to say they are sending their kid to a private but don't have the funds to send their kids to one of the reputable options in Knoxville. I am curious to know where they plan to build all of the facilities? Will they play home games at other high schools again or at the public park on the Loudon County line?

Lots of fun to watch him in the option offense as the only receiver split out wide. Just goes to show you a bad coach can’t kill great talent.

How long does the Sober Steve act take to wear off and the beer and vodka to start flowing? Does this school still not have football field? I know they played at some park when Trouble Troy was their HC and ran the program into the ground. How long until Broke Benji’s money dries up and the church is left holding a spoiled bag of good does this program die once and for all?

I’ve seen varying reports so not sure what to believe. It seems like Fairygut will uphold its title as the land of entitlement with the son taking over as head coach even I know there will be better applicants for this job. Seems like a disservice to the program to just hand it to the entitled son with no head coaching experience. I wonder how many other 6a jobs have been filled with coaches with no HC experience?

Ole Holier Than Thou leaving because he can't compete in today's climate. Looks like Shifty Steve Matthews left Ancient Eddie shivering in his visor. Too bad Concord is but stepping stone for Sober-ish Steve to get back into the game after Catholic wasn't allowed to hire him. I am sure they will keep this one in the family at Fairygut. Don't know anything about his son but he better figure out how to recruit...and FAST. I am sure the Beerden staff has already contacted Fairygut players.

Looks live Davy Crockett said no to Grace and still stay in the cow pasture. I guess all those apartments they are building for recruits was too much to leave.

Of all the hires Catholic could have made....This one is shocking. I guess they still couldn't hire Matthews, which is why he left. Seems there were many better candidates out there, but they settled. I think this hire says a lot about the admin's dedication to football. I guess they realize they play in D2-AAA and will never have a chance to win a championship.

Very questionable hire. I am not sure how anyone could get excited by hiring a coach that hasn't has a winning records in the last 6 seasons, is only has three more wins than losses in 13 years, and has only every gotten past the first round of the playoffs twice. Also with no experience in the private school world, it should be interesting to see if they get players to Grace. I also question the decision by the Price twins to leave Campbell Co., where there is absolutely no pressure at all. I guess the new challenge may be appealing, but D2 ball is a different world that what they are used to. I guess it was all about the money.

With AE coming open, would SS go there instead of Central and narrowing the list to 2?
