  1. Alcoa has always attracted kids form the Eagleton area. After all , it is only 5 minutes away. Compare that to Heritage being about 25 minutes away and it is not surprising. I remember growing up in Eagleton back in the 70's we always heard that the city of Alcoa was going to annex the area. It never happened.
  2. Alcoa rings in 04 and 05 were paid from donations , booster club and school athletic dept. funds. The kids paid nothing. I do not know what the plans are for this years rings.
  3. Tylers dad , Danny, did not play for MHS. He starred @ Everett High and earned a scholarship to what was then Memphis State. He was an outstanding high school player who was derailed by knee injuries. Tylers Uncle Ricky played in junior high@ Eagleton and then attended spring practice with Everett prior to his sophomore year. It was the final year of the old county school(76-77). He decided that he would be better off @MHS and decided to go there in the fall. It turned out to be the right move as Everett finished 2-8 and Maryville won there 2nd state title. Other Eagleton players who went that year to MHS were Ronnie Irwin , Mike Casteel and Jeff "Moose" Evans. Just a little Blount County sports history.
  4. I pay tuition at Alcoa for my kids. The reason we decided on this school system is the small school environment which provides a low student to teacher ratio. At 400 bucks per year it is also a bargain. My son did not play football before coming to Alcoa but decided to play after he got there. He plays baseball as his primary sport and they did not even have a field to play or practice on until his junior year.We are zoned for William Blount and that would be the more logical choice for a high school baseball career. Athletics played a very small role in our choice.
  5. There are a lot of holes to fill @ Alcoa. We have good skill players returning but both lines will have to be overhauled especially on the defensive side. There are also big shoes to fill @ linebacker. There is no one who can step in for Bart Hicks and provide what he has for the last two seasons. They lose over 20 seniors most of which were starters or major contributors. That leadership is not easy to replace. I believe that if Alcoa is to be dethroned , next year will be the year. They had a strong , unbeaten freshman squad and a strong unbeaten middle school team this season. In 2008 I see another big championship run. But for next season I think they back up towards the competition. Better catch em while their young.
  6. The first half was close and GP actually dominated the line of scrimmage. The 2nd half was total domination by Alcoa. They regained the line of scrimmage and wore down the Cougars. Another defeat for the old outdated Wing-T offense. Good job Alcoa.
  7. I did not see anyone mention it but the 2nd half was also shortened to 8 minute quarters.
  8. Well , it was not CAK but as I said 10 days ago , G-P is out of the playoffs and it was'nt even close. Alcoa could have beaten them 91-7 again.
  9. Good Post. This is good news for Alcoa folks because it makes the game much more enjoyable to watch when the other team plays hard and clean. The BTW team played with lots of heart and IMO the players respected them as did the Alcoa crowd. Don't expect an overconfident bunch of Tornadoes. They will be focused and on a mission to put this game away by halftime. May you have a safe trip down and back.
  10. Unlike Division 1 NCAA football we do not have to rely on polls to decide who is best. These polls are nothing more than opinions whether it be sportswriters , coaches or coach t posters. They make good conversation and a way for the fans to have some friendly (or sometimes not so friendly) banter but the true #1 will be decided on the field. It's playoff time so let the battle begin. Win or go home.!!!
  11. That's funny .... The newspaper said the starters came out after going up 35 - 7 with 5 minutes to go in the game but then went back in on the next series so that Dodgen could set the team scoring record. ( which I have no problem with ) Looks like the starters played pretty much the whole game at least on the offensive side. Regardless , congrats on your perfect season. That is a great accomplishment. Good luck in post season play.
  12. Good win for Pittman but you better take them one at a time. Last year Cumberland Gap was talking about their eventual meeting with Alcoa after week 10 and were sent into basketball season by the 4th seed fron region 2 in round 1.
  13. Here is my two cents worth.I thought BTW had some fine athletes. They were very physical and played hard. If not for some outstanding defensive plays Shivvy would have run for 300 yards in 2.5 quarters. I am not knocking their coaching staff , but they were very basic on both sides of the ball. With the right coaching , this team would be very strong. Comparing them to our region foes I would have to say they would have given Loudon a run for second and would have beaten all others. It was a good playoff tune up for both teams. Good luck to the Warriors.
  14. Rockwood has been eliminated from playoff contention. Regardless , Loudon gets the W.
  15. Sweetwater is a slightly better team. They have home field advantage and a bunch of good athletes. Johnkins is a fantastic player. I give them the edge by 7 , but turnovers could swing things towards the Warriors. The winner gets a road trip to South Greene the loser heads for a Friday night in Gatlinburg.
  16. They will lose in the first round of the playoffs. (probably to CAK)
  17. Thanks for the info. Classy post. As I said before , I look forward to a good game. It should be a measuring stick for both teams as they compare potential playoff opponents.
  18. Are you a BTW fan? If so give us some info on the team. What type offense , defense , strengths and weaknesses? Tell us about some of their top players. I don't think a team can go 9-0 unless they are pretty decent. Folks here in Alcoa are hoping for a competitive game. I think I speak for most of our fans when I say we have seen enough of these games that are over by the 2nd quarter. Unfortunately , we have more of them coming up in the first couple rounds of the playoffs. Hope BTW has a safe trip over.
  19. I think he was referring to last years Gatlinburg - Pittman game. You know how he is. Always looking to put down Alcoa and twisting the truth to suit his needs.
  20. What about Whitey Caldwell ? I can remember Ron standing at ring side with the microphone talkin about " puttin a Tennessee dog whuppin " on Caldwell , and then Whitey would come charging out of the dressing room and Ron Wright would throw that microphone and run. Man that brings back the memories. !!
  21. I have seen both teams play against Alcoa with almost identical results. Rockwood had some success on the ground vs the Tornadoes but were very one dimensional and that was quickly shut down. CAK was unable to run the ball against Alcoa but had some nice pass plays during the game. Defensively , Rockwood is big and physical but lacks speed and depth. CAK has some speed and the Bennett kid will rock your world. One intangable for Rockwood is the home field. They seem to play well in big games there. For my money this one is a toss up. It will come down to the team that makes the fewest mistakes and plays with the most heart. The winner plays football in November and the loser plays basketball.
  22. Fulton only beat Alcoa by three.
  23. That is exactly what I was thinking Pepvol. They lost to a couple of very average, rebuilding , 4A teams. Not to mention a miraculous comeback victory over an average WB team.
  24. Great post TVGOV!! Let me say that I am first and foremost an Alcoa fan , but I always like to keep up with all the Blount County teams. I try to catch the WB replay each week and I thoroughly enjoy listening to you and the " Professor. " Your unbridled enthusiasm for the Govs is what makes the broadcast and Holden is a fantastic analyst. Keep up hte good work.
  25. There is no trip to BTW next year. This was a one and done series. Got that straight from the director of Alcoa City Schools.
