  1. TSSAA website has Maryville at 1684 students. That is a legit 6A school. Cut off is at around 1550 for 5A. Heritage has 1559 students. They should kick 9 kids out LOL!! I agree Alcoa needs to move it on up . On a different note , I like seeing this spirited banter between the two schools like we used to see on here 10 years ago or so. And I am an old Alcoa guy but the F5 blew it (no pun intended). If you don't move on the 4th and inches in the 1st half when you had to kick a field goal and then you don't fumble on the 1 yard line in the 4th we are not discussing holding calls , real or imagined. You must take advantage of your opportunities. Unfortunately for the Naders the Rebels did.
  2. Alcoa 38- 0 at the end of the 3rd. The F5 is beginning to sub as the mercy clock ticks away.
  3. No need to be concerned with CAK after this season. They are moving to DII.
  4. Alcoa has a listed enrollment this year @ 656 students. That makes them officially a 3A school. According to Brian Bell , Director of Alcoa schools , the plan is to cap enrollment at 700 students which will assure them of remaining at the 3A level. ( I guess I should have put in a Nerd Alert!!) LOL
  5. I don't see them moving up. Since they finished the new high school the plan is to add slowly and eventually top out just short of 1000 students. So , some time in the next 5-7 years they will end up in 4A.
  6. Alcoa has 653 enrolled for this school year. That will put them middle of the pack in 3A.
  7. Alcoa has 653 enrolled this school year. That will put them at about middle of the pack in 3A.
  8. I agree completely that they can play with anyone.
  9. That was true not long ago but not anymore. There are 653 enrolled at the high school this year. That is right smack in the middle of 3A.
  10. Nix did indeed interview for the job but turned it down. This info came via Coach Nix himself.
  11. Gotta pick Hardin Valley in this one. I saw the Govs play a couple of times early in the season and have watched a couple of more times on the BCS replay. They just do not seem to have any consistency except that they consistently fall back into bad habits.(poor tackling and foolish penalties) I don't see them winning another game this season. I hope they prove me wrong.
  12. How bout them Mountaineers !!! I believe this is program is slowly turning the corner. Got a long way to go but this is a step in the right direction.
  13. Don't forget quarterback and super safety Austin Tallent. He brought the thunder when he made a tackle.
  14. Alcoa has 611 students enrolled this year at the new high school. 2A status is long gone.
  15. I say the same thing about TD Blackmon. Butch Jones should offer him today. If there is a better linebacker in the state of Tennessee I would hate to go up against him. Smart, fast , physical and fundamentally outstanding.
  16. Yeah, After last years 30-7 nail biter I am sure that Rankin breathed a sigh of relief. Before that it was 28-8 , 49 - 0 , 27 - 7 21 - 24 (a Falcon win!!) 46 - 8. Not exactly the sort of competion one would shy away from. We heard the same thing when the two ended the series after 2006. I guess Rankin knew to avoid the birds for two seasons then he would have a 4 year window of opportunity to pick up some easy wins before he had to cancel the series again. He is a Genius ya know.
  17. They play tonight against West Greene. It is part of an annual double header that features them and Mo West. I made the trip to Loudon last night and came away very impressed with WB. They were well coached , physical and fun to watch. The Otis kid is the real deal. The Redskins were quite a disappointment. Count me as one who expected a better showing. I have watched Alcoa play them the last 8 years and this may be the worst edition I have seen. But I am not taking anything from WB. They did exactly what they should have done. Leave no doubt early. I think Loudon may avoid scheduling teams from the BC in the future.
  18. Don't forget poorly coached and lacking post season experience!!
  19. That is the MHS field. Brand new turf grass and Jumbo-tron. 1st game.
  20. Stars , I watched ole Ron Fuller whup up on the Mongolian Stomper at the old Armory.
  21. I played for Everett in that game. I don't remember Spradlin being involved but I remember it started after Maryville scored their first touchdown to make it a 10-7 game. One of our linebackers , Robby Nease if my memory serves me correctly , did something not so nice to Ricky Loope in a pile during the play. Loope kicked Nease and as usual the retaliator got busted and was ejected from the game. We had taken a 10-0 lead on 1 yard touchdown by yours truly. It turned out to be the historical last touchdown for Everett in the series. I remember the game very well. We played it on a Saturday night at Buddy Williams Field because we had torrential rains on Thursday and Friday that week and the field was a swamp. But a cold front moved through and Saturday was perfect football weather. The talk around town was that the rescheduling caused Danny to have to cancel recruiting trips. Those were the days.....
  22. I would take Maryville to win in a close one for 2011. As for the past , here is some more history from 2005. Maryville 41 Alcoa 21 Alcoa 45 Mcallie 35 Brentwood Ac 38 Mcallie 35 Christian Bros 19 BA 17 MUS 31 CB 27 (DII STATE CHAMPIONSHIP) And 2006 : MHS 17 AHS 14 AHS 24 Mcallie 21 BA 37 Mcallie 34 (DII state championship) Knox Fulton 24 AHS 21
  23. ........ not to mention his price negotiating skills.
