  1. The 'Wood and the 'Creek. Gotta be the best!
  2. Believe me, it is so much better than the Midstate and East, that you wouldn't believe it! I know first hand. The athletes are tremendous. We sure wasn't up to the task. Dyer Co. and Bolivar have tremendous athletic ability. Not seen in Nashville, believe me! We have a lot of catching up to do. You can play good defense and still lose on athletic ability.
  3. Crutcher is a special player. He is the difference in Hunters Lane's revival. If he doesn't play they are a very mediocre team. With him the are a viable district threat.
  4. I still think McGavock is the most talented team in the district. I believe eventually they will prevail. Our guys at Maplewood may challenge them, but we must mature fast. Whites Creek and Hunters Lane also look good right now. You never know in 12AAA!
  5. I know one thing, we at Maplewood better come to play! We play Giles Co., Bolivar Central, and Dyer Co. on consecutive nights. Wow! What a chore. This has to be one of the toughest Christmas classics.
  6. Let's heap all the pressure on 16AAA. I have no idea who has the strongest district. Only time will tell???
  7. I believe Hendersonville has enough fire power to win the District again. They played a lot of people last year and have a bunch back. I will go with Hendersonville. I think Gallatin will end up second. I know Hendersonville will be good, because we played them in the substate.
  8. I predicted Columbia by 8, they won by 7.
  9. Don't jump off the boat yet; remember only two starters back from last year's team. Yes, the chemistry isn't there yet, but we WILL get it right! Hang in there! The kids are just not playing with the right attitude yet, but that can be cured. If it isn't cured by the end of the year, well it is my fault. We are working hard, but right now we are not playing well. I never count the Panthers out! If YOU do , then watch out. Maybe we should be proud we have won 3 games without playing a real ballgame. HUH?? Nuff said.
  10. Let's not get to hasty! Let's wait and see what pans out in the weeks to come. I know Wadelle is a great player, but the season is young. Bubba has got to get in basketball shape. Football almost ruined him. We are trying to get weight off him where he can move like the old Bubba. Henry just doesn't have the cast around him. Let's give it a while.
  11. Boys: Stratford vs. Spring Hill @ 6:45 Maplewood vs. East Lit. @ 8:15
  12. Steve Chauncy, Don Harris, Brad Viera, Technical Timmy Finch, Doris Armstrong, Billy Fellman, Walter Overton, just to name a few. What about Technical Timmy, ha??
  13. It appears the players care more about their hair instead of buying into the team unity concept. Congratulations to Coach Harris for his guts in doing what many coaches are already doing! Never let players run the team; you will regret it.
  14. Oh yeah, and Lenny Manning may have been better than any. He went on and played college ball at Miami of Ohio and Austin Peay. He was a great player and one of my favorites. I coached him in Jr. High at Ewing Park and we won it all. Gerald Johnson coached him at Maplewood.
  15. The best talented player I ever had at Maplewood was Ray Ray Watkins. He averaged 22 pts. per game and was great on defense. Also, Jonathan Whitworth and his brother Walter Whitworth, both made all-Metro first team. Carl Bean, Amilcar Butler, David Suddeth (All time leading scorer at Trevecca), and Cetric Anderson. These are a few I have coached at Maplewood. Before I was there Tim Burr lit it up and Bobby Hines also, did.
  16. Bubba got his results back today on the MRI, but I'm not telling.....
  17. It was 15 years ago that Doc Shelton was my assistant at Maplewood. In the two years he was with me, we went to the State one year and won the District 12AAA the next. Can he coach? You better know he can! He is one of the hardest workers and intelligent coaches in the state. He also, stands for discipline and respect -- something some coaches have forgotten or just are too scared to tackle. He also, has won a couple of State Championships - not bad, huh? Yes, Doc Shelton is the REAL deal!
  18. I sent you a private message, check you later.
  19. Well, I know this, the Panthers will play hard, but IF McGavock plays up to their potential, they will be very hard to beat. Who knows???
  20. You know, I really believe Antioch will come on this year. I, as you know, believe McGavock will be very very talented this year. But I also believe someone will surprise us all - it always happens in 12AAA. You never know!
